Regrouting near Goose Green

Regrouting in Goose Green

Across Goose Green, we regrout tiled showers, bathrooms and kitchens. Out comes the old grout, the joints are cleaned and new grout goes in, finished with new silicone at the edges. Common call-outs are for grout stained black or orange that won’t clean and floor grout that won’t come clean, across tiled floors, bathroom wall tiles and shower walls.

Somewhere as small as Goose Green, homes tend to be cottages, farmhouses or converted buildings, with some newer houses too. Movement in older walls and floors tends to show first as cracked grout or split sealant.

Our work is backed for twelve months, in Goose Green and everywhere else we cover.

What we are called out for in Goose Green

Hard water and soap leave a film on grout that’s hard to shift. In time the grout under it darkens and breaks down, which is when replacing it makes sense.

These are the problems we are asked about most:

  • Corners filled with grout instead of silicone
  • Grout stained black or orange that will not clean
  • Floor grout that has worn and darkened
  • Good tiles let down by tired grout

For landlords with property near Billingshurst station, stained grout drags a rental down, and regrouting between lets puts that right.

10 questions to ask before you book

What affects the quote in Goose Green

Your quote is based on your job. We take into account:

  • When we can work, for business premises
  • Access and height
  • Which sealant suits the joint
  • Mould in or behind the old joints

What you pay reflects the work, not a rough estimate. That is why we ask about the job first.

Asking for a quote

There’s no need for technical detail. It helps if you can tell us:

  • Any access issues, like height or stairs
  • What the problem is, such as mould, gaps, leaks or cracking
  • Where the job is, and your postcode
  • Photos by email, if that’s easy

We quote each job on its own, so the first step is telling us about yours. Just ring 0345 464 0079 or send us an email with the details and send photos if you have them.

Regrouting around Goose Green

Most of the South East has hard water, so limescale builds up on sealant, grout and fittings, and it has to be cleaned off before new sealant goes in.

In the older streets around The Parish Church of St Mary, bathrooms in older houses have often been refitted more than once, with sealant laid over sealant. For site and facilities teams at buildings such as Rydon Community College, we reseal washrooms and kitchens in schools and businesses as well as homes.

DIY versus a professional finish

What a professional job adds is preparation and the right product. Joints are cleaned back to sound surfaces and dried, and the sealant is matched to the joint and its conditions, then guaranteed for a year.

A DIY attempt does not rule out a professional job. We remove it and do the joint properly, so tell us about it when you ask for a quote.

The process

There’s no need to move everything out, just the space around the work. We protect the rest, and the work takes a few hours for a shower enclosure, longer for a whole room for a typical job. Somewhere like Goose Green needs a little journey planning: tell us about narrow lanes, gates, long drives and where we can park. Everything for the job comes with us, so a second trip is avoided where possible.

  1. First we agree what’s being done and flag any loose tiles.
  2. We remove the old grout carefully.
  3. Dust is cleared from every joint.
  4. We grout the joints and wipe the tiles clean.
  5. We renew the silicone at the corners and edges.

How to prepare

  • Let us know if you’ve seen damp or leaks
  • Keep children and pets away from the work area
  • Try not to wet indoor joints just before the visit

Advice

Why it’s worth doing now in Goose Green

Regrouting will not help where tiles have come away. We point that out first so you know what’s involved. Where the tiles are sound, regrouting is far less disruptive than retiling. Around Goose Green, older homes often have timber in their floors and frames, where water from a failed joint can cause rot if it’s left.

Instead of a standard rate, we look at what your job involves: the amount of work, the old material and the access. You will know the price before we begin.

Goose Green questions

Do you cover smaller places like Goose Green?

Yes. Goose Green is within the area we cover, which takes in towns, villages and rural addresses. Our work covers London and the South East. Let us know about access, parking and anything unusual about getting there when you book.

Do you cover Goose Green for regrouting?

Yes. We work across London and the South East, and Goose Green is part of that. You can phone 0345 464 0079 or email us and let us know what needs doing, and we’ll send you a clear quote.

Do you remove the old sealant?

Yes, every time. New sealant won’t bond properly to old, so any old material comes out before anything new goes in.

Which products do you use?

It depends on the joint: sanitary silicone where it gets wet, and sealants suited to movement or weather elsewhere. We use products from Arbo and Everbuild.

Do you hold any approvals?

Yes. We hold ARBOMaster approved applicator status and we’re fully insured too.

What does regrouting cost?

It depends on the job, so we quote each one individually. To get one, ring 0345 464 0079 or drop us an email with a short description of the job.

Is it worth trying it myself?

For a simple, easy-to-reach joint, a careful DIYer can do a reasonable job. The usual mistakes are sealing over old sealant, sealing a damp joint and using too much.

Is it messy?

Very little: the area around the joints is protected first, and we tidy up before we go.

Surface by surface

Bathroom floors

If floor grout keeps cracking, the floor may be moving. We look for loose tiles first.

Wet rooms

Regrouting a wet room helps keep water on the surface of the tiles. It can’t fix waterproofing below the tiles.

How to look after the new joints

So the new joints stay in good condition:

  • Wipe or squeegee the shower walls
  • Keep harsh bleach and acid cleaners off the grout
  • Look at the sealant in the corners now and then
  • Run the extractor fan during and after a shower

Wipe the tiles down after a shower stops soap and water sitting on the grout. Run the extractor fan or open a window to help it dry out.

Stains that will not clean are a sign the grout is breaking down. At this point it’s a simple regrout, before the joints open up.
