Common questions in Glencarse

Will you come out to Glencarse?

Yes, Glencarse is covered. We work across all of Scotland, from towns to the smallest places. Longer journeys are simply planned in advance.

Is regrouting in Glencarse guaranteed?

Every job comes with our 12-month guarantee, wherever it is. We’re fully insured, and an ARBOMaster approved applicator.

Can you work on commercial sites?

Yes, regularly. Larger jobs can be planned room by room or area by area to suit the site.

What goes in the corners, grout or silicone?

Corners get silicone, not grout. They move slightly, and grout there cracks.

Is it messy?

Tidy work is part of the job. We protect what’s around the joints, and the area is left clean when we finish.

Will there be a smell?

Possibly a little. It fades as the sealant cures.

Can you seal over the old sealant?

No, because it fails. The old sealant always comes out first, so the new sealant bonds properly.

What if some of my tiles are loose?

If tiles are loose, something behind them has usually failed. Grout on its own will not fix that and we will say so before going ahead.

About our regrouting in Glencarse

We work across Glencarse, regrouting bathrooms, showers and kitchens. Out comes the old grout, the joints are cleaned and new grout goes in, and we finish by resealing the edges. We work on kitchen splashbacks, tiled floors and wet rooms, and people most often call us about cracked or crumbling grout lines and grout washed out of a shower.

A bathroom in a place like Glencarse gets the same daily wear as one in a city flat. Generally soft Scottish water means less limescale, but steam still lets mould into sealant and grout.

A one-year guarantee comes as standard, so you are covered after we’ve gone.

What we do, step by step

At the end, we look at the finished work together and explain the cure time. The visit itself normally takes anything from a few hours to a full day, depending on the area, depending on how much there is to do. Somewhere like Glencarse may be a longer drive, and the journey is planned ahead. Tell us about tracks, gates, a ferry crossing or anything unusual about getting there.

  1. We check the tiles for any that are hollow or loose.
  2. We rake out the grout evenly, protecting the tile edges.
  3. We vacuum the joints so the new grout bonds.
  4. New grout is pressed into the joints and the tiles are cleaned.
  5. Silicone goes into the corners and along the edges.

Preparing for the visit

  • Move anything stored near the joints
  • Mention any tricky access
  • For indoor joints, keep the area dry beforehand if you can

Looking after it afterwards

No joint lasts for ever, but care makes a real difference. Our tips:

  • Use a squeegee on the tiles after showering
  • Use a soft brush rather than a wire one
  • Keep the fan on after showering
  • Have loose tiles looked at early

Give the new grout the time we tell you before using the shower, so it can harden properly. After that, rinse the tiles after showering and let the room air.

Stains that will not clean are a sign the grout is breaking down. At this point it’s a simple regrout while the tiles are still sound.

Do you need regrouting in Glencarse?

Most grout is porous, so it soaks up water, soap and dirt. Over time it stains, softens and starts to crumble and showers that get daily use suffer most.

If you can see any of these, it’s time to have the joints looked at:

  • Grout that’s cracking and breaking up
  • Grout washed out of a shower
  • Floor grout that won’t come clean
  • Old grout in a dated colour

In and around Glencarse, as anywhere, good regrouting starts with a clean, dry, properly prepared joint.

What your quote should include

  • What the quote includes, VAT included or not
  • Whether you can choose the colour
  • What happens if the job turns out different
  • What the cure time is

10 questions to ask before you book

Leave it or put it right?

Cracked grout lets water behind the tiles. Left alone, that water can loosen tiles or damage the wall, and then you are looking at retiling. Sorting it early keeps the job simple. In an older home around Glencarse, damp from a failed joint can get into timber and plaster.

What it costs depends on the size of the job, how much old material has to come out and how easy the joints are to reach. We give a clear quote before any work starts, so you know where you stand.

Glencarse homes and their sealant

Glencarse is close to the coast. Coastal homes, holiday lets and guest houses can see heavy bathroom use in busy months, and sealant and grout that work that hard wear out sooner. Private landlords in Scotland must be registered and meet the Repairing Standard, which covers keeping fixtures and fittings in a reasonable state of repair. Tired, leaking sealant is worth putting right before a new tenant moves in.

Homes close to All Saints Church include some older properties, and older homes can move a little, which is hard on rigid grout and tired sealant.

DIY versus a professional finish

A DIY attempt doesn’t rule out a professional job. We remove it and do the joint properly, so just mention it when you contact us.

Sealing over old silicone is the commonest DIY error. New silicone will not bond to old, so it lifts and traps water and mould underneath. All the old material has to come out first.

Landlords, agents and businesses in Glencarse

Whether it’s one flat or a portfolio, the work is the same standard: old sealant fully removed, joints prepared properly and a one-year guarantee.

Failed sealant is one of the commonest items on a check-out report, and it’s easy to sort out between tenants. We can quote for more than one property at once.

When it isn’t the sealant

It helps to know what we cannot do:

  • Damaged tiles that need replacing
  • Loose tiles, which need refixing first
  • Movement in a stud wall or floor

If you’re not sure, just drop us a line at info@mrmastic.co.uk and we will give you a straight answer before booking.
