Need regrouting in Freshwater?

How we handle regrouting in Freshwater

Our applicators rake out the old grout to an even depth, taking care not to chip the tile edges. The joints are then vacuumed, regrouted and cleaned off, with silicone renewed in the corners. We work on kitchen splashbacks, shower walls and wet rooms, and the jobs we see most are stained grout that cleaning won’t shift and grout washed out of a shower.

Around Freshwater, you will mostly find houses and bungalows, some older and some much newer. Bathrooms and kitchens here get the same daily wear as anywhere, and the sealant and grout show it first.

Each job carries a 12-month guarantee, whatever its size.

Signs you need regrouting in Freshwater

Some grout fails because it was mixed or laid badly. If it was mixed too wet or not pressed in firmly tends to wash out early.

It’s worth asking for a quote if you see:

  • Grout washed out of a shower
  • Floor grout that won’t come clean
  • Grout in a colour the owner wants to change
  • Corners filled with grout instead of silicone

If you look after a building such as All Saints Church of England Primary School, washroom and kitchen sealant there needs the same care as at home, and schools and businesses are part of our work as well as homes.

Before you book anyone

  • Whether they seal over old material or remove it
  • What happens if the job turns out different
  • How the surfaces are prepared before sealing
  • Whether the sealant suits the joint

Choosing a sealant specialist

What happens if it’s left?

Grout pens and paint-on colourants only cover the surface. They will not fill gaps or keep water out, and stains can show through again. Raking out and regrouting replaces the grout itself. Around Freshwater, water from a failed joint in an older home can soak into timber and plaster, which is far harder to put right than the sealant itself.

Doing several joints on one visit usually makes better use of the time than several visits, so it’s worth mentioning everything you’d like done. You will get one clear quote for the whole job.

What affects the quote in Freshwater

Some jobs are bigger than they look, and some smaller. What affects the quote:

  • Whether old sealant or filler has to be cut out
  • Mould in or behind the old joints
  • The number and length of the joints
  • The product the joint needs

Rather than a set price list, we look at what your job involves: the amount of work, the old material and the access. You’ll know the price before we begin.

Asking for a quote

There’s no need for technical detail. It helps if you can tell us:

  • Photos by email, if that is easy
  • The problem you’ve noticed
  • Where the property is
  • The type of property

To get a quote, phone 0345 464 0079 or send us an email and tell us where the job is and what the problem looks like. You will have a clear quote before any work starts.

Can I do it myself?

What a professional job adds is preparation and the right product. We take joints back to clean, dry surfaces, and the sealant is matched to the joint and its conditions, and the work is guaranteed for a year.

The biggest DIY mistake is sealing over old sealant. Silicone doesn’t stick to old silicone, so it lifts and traps water and mould underneath. Everything old must be removed first.

What regrouting looks like in Freshwater

Freshwater is close to the coast. Coastal homes, holiday lets and guest houses can see heavy bathroom use in busy months, and sealant and grout that work that hard wear out sooner. Hard water is the norm across most of the South East, which leaves limescale on sealant, grout and fittings, and it has to be cleaned off before new sealant goes in.

In the older streets around All Saints' Church, walls and floors in older homes can move, and sealant and grout show it first.

Looking after it afterwards

A little care helps the new joints last. Our advice:

  • Run the extractor fan during and after a shower
  • Use gentle cleaners on grout
  • Clean with a soft brush, not anything metal
  • Avoid neat bleach and strong acid descalers on grout

Have any tile that moves checked straight away. Movement will crack the new grout and lets water in.

If grout in the shower is washing out, act soon. Every shower pushes more water into the gaps and it can end up in the wall or the ceiling below.

When it isn’t the sealant

Honest advice matters more to us than a booking, so here’s what new sealant won’t do:

  • Tiles that are chipped or split
  • Tiles that have come away from the wall
  • Failed tanking or waterproofing under the tiles

If you’re not sure, just call 0345 464 0079 or drop us an email and we’ll give you a straight answer.

What we seal

  • Tiled floors
  • Bathroom wall tiles
  • Bathroom floors
  • Wet rooms
  • Shower walls
  • Kitchen splashbacks

How the visit works

The work is kept neat and contained to the area we are working on, so you can carry on as normal. Expect the work to take anything from a few hours to a full day, depending on the area, and we explain the cure time before we leave. For a job in Freshwater, we agree the time, the access and parking before the day. Outdoor jobs depend on a dry day, since sealant needs a dry surface.

  1. We check the tiles for any that are hollow or loose.
  2. The old grout is removed to an even depth.
  3. We vacuum the joints so the new grout bonds.
  4. We regrout the joints and clean the tile faces.
  5. Silicone goes into the corners and along the edges.

Preparing for the visit

  • Plan for the work area to be out of bounds to pets and children
  • Let us know if you’ve seen damp or leaks
  • Mention if the joints have been sealed before

All our work, in Freshwater and everywhere else, comes with a 12-month guarantee. We are also fully insured and ARBOMaster approved.

Will you come out to Freshwater?

Yes. Freshwater is within the area we cover, which takes in towns, villages and rural addresses. We work across London and the South East. Let us know about access, parking and anything unusual about getting there when you book.

Are you ARBOMaster approved?

Yes. We’re approved under the ARBOMaster scheme.

Yes, we often do. Shower grout tends to go before the rest, so it’s often the only area that needs doing.

Yes, and it often makes sense. Combining jobs makes good use of the visit, so mention them when you ask for a quote.

Is it worth trying it myself?

Some simple jobs can be done by a careful DIYer. The usual mistakes are sealing over old sealant, sealing a damp joint and using too much.

How soon can the shower be used after regrouting?

It varies with the products and the room. We’ll tell you exactly how long at the end of the visit.

Do you work for letting agents?

Yes, regularly. Several properties can go on one quote.
