Regrouting for homes and businesses in Fowlis

Before work begins, the tiles are checked. If any tiles are loose or sound hollow, we tell you, since new grout cannot fix a problem underneath. With sound tiles, regrouting is a tidy, lasting improvement. If you’re dealing with gaps where the shower grout has gone and corners filled with grout instead of silicone, we can help, on bathroom floors, shower walls and wet rooms alike.

Bathrooms in smaller places like Fowlis work just as hard as those in the cities. Generally soft Scottish water means less limescale, but steam still lets mould into sealant and grout.

We stand behind the work with a 12-month guarantee, so you are covered after we’ve gone.

When to call us in Fowlis

A bathroom that stays damp keeps the grout wet, giving mould a place to grow. Black marks that come back after cleaning are often in the grout itself.

Most people get in touch after spotting something like this:

  • Grout that makes sound tiles look old
  • Grout stained black or orange that won’t clean
  • Grout washed out of a shower
  • Kitchen splashback grout stained by grease

Homes close to Fowlis Easter Church And Churchyard include some older properties, and older homes can move a little, which is hard on rigid grout and tired sealant.

Regrouting in Fowlis: local notes

Fowlis is close to the coast. Coastal homes, holiday lets and guest houses can see heavy bathroom use in busy months, which wears sealant and grout out faster than in a quiet home. In Scotland, private landlords have to meet the Repairing Standard, which includes keeping fixtures and fittings in reasonable repair. Failed sealant around a bath or shower is worth sorting between tenancies.

For landlords with property near Invergowrie station, clean grout and fresh sealant between tenancies make a bathroom look cared for again.

Fowlis is about 5 miles west of Dundee, in Dundee. From the centre of Fowlis to the outskirts, regrouting is available for homes and businesses alike, from flats and houses to offices and hotels. Our Dundee coverage runs to 50 places, and Fowlis is one of them.

What the job involves on each surface

Shower walls

The grout in a shower takes the brunt of the water. We replace it, and reseal the corners.

Bathroom wall tiles

Grout by the basin and bath tends to mark first. We can regroute just those areas or the whole wall.

What we can’t put right

To be straight with you, some problems need a different trade:

  • Tiles that have come away from the wall
  • Damaged tiles that need replacing
  • Failed tanking or waterproofing under the tiles

Not sure which it is? You can email us at info@mrmastic.co.uk and we will tell you honestly.

Joints and surfaces we work on

  • Shower walls
  • Tiled floors
  • Kitchen splashbacks
  • Bathroom wall tiles
  • Wet rooms
  • Bathroom floors

Should I try it myself first?

The biggest DIY mistake is sealing over old sealant. Silicone doesn’t stick to old silicone, so it peels away and traps moisture behind it. All the old material has to come out first.

Too much sealant is as bad as too little. A thick, smeared bead looks untidy and does not move well, and getting the depth right matters as much as the look.

Why act early in Fowlis

Cracked grout lets water behind the tiles. Left alone, that water can loosen tiles or damage the wall, which turns a regrout into a retile. Dealing with it now keeps it small. Around Fowlis, water from a failed joint in an older stone home can soak into timber and plaster.

Some things make a job bigger or smaller: the old material and how easily it comes out, any mould to treat, and whether we need extra access for height. Your quote takes all of that into account.

Why us?

  • A 12-month guarantee on all work
  • Old sealant always removed completely
  • Homes, businesses and hotels
  • Anti-fungal silicone where joints get wet

Questions from Fowlis

Is Fowlis in your area for regrouting?

Yes. We work across all of Scotland, and Fowlis is part of that. You can send an email to info@mrmastic.co.uk and let us know what needs doing, and we will give you a clear quote.

Will you come out to Fowlis?

Yes, we do. We work across all of Scotland, from towns to the smallest places. Longer journeys are simply planned in advance.

I rent my home. Can I book you?

Yes, though it’s best to check with your landlord first. Many landlords are glad to have it sorted.

Will it make a mess?

Not at all. We work neatly, protect the area around the joints and tidy up afterwards.

Do you work for landlords and businesses?

Yes, often. Several properties can be quoted together.

Where is Mr Mastic based?

Our base is in Crawley, and we cover South East England, London and all of Scotland.

Will there be a smell?

Sometimes, a little. Any smell clears as the sealant cures.

Are you fully insured?

Yes. We’re fully insured, and we have been doing sealant work for more than 20 years.

The process

At the end, we look at the finished work together and explain the cure time. The visit itself generally takes a few hours, or longer for a fully tiled room, depending on the size of the job. Somewhere like Fowlis may be a longer drive, and the journey is planned ahead. Tell us about tracks, gates, a ferry crossing or anything unusual about getting there.

  1. We check the tiles are sound and flag any that are loose or hollow.
  2. We rake out the old grout to an even depth, taking care of the tile edges.
  3. We vacuum the joints and clean out the dust.
  4. New grout is worked into the joints and cleaned off the tile faces.
  5. Corners and edges are resealed with flexible silicone, not grout.
