How we handle regrouting in Camperdown

We regroute showers, bathroom walls and floors, splashbacks and wet rooms. Some jobs are a whole room, or just the area that has failed. Whatever the size, the method stays the same. If you have grout that makes sound tiles look old and grout that stays dark however much it’s cleaned, we can put it right.

Across smaller places in Scotland, homes range from stone and harled cottages to newer houses. Older buildings can move a little, and that shows first in cracked grout and split sealant.

The work is guaranteed for twelve months. If there’s a problem with our work within the year, let us know and we’ll sort it.

Keeping the joints in good condition

Aftercare is simple, and it makes a real difference:

  • Avoid neat bleach and strong acid descalers on grout
  • Run the extractor fan during and after a shower
  • Wipe or squeegee the shower walls
  • Have loose tiles looked at early

Clean the grout with a mild bathroom cleaner and a soft brush. Keep harsh bleach and acid limescale removers away from it because they wear grout away.

Grout that stays dark after cleaning is starting to fail. Regrouting at this stage is straightforward while the tiles are still sound.

Surface by surface

Corners and edges

Edges are resealed while we’re there, so the whole area is finished together.

Wet rooms

New grout in a wet room keeps the surface sound. It doesn’t repair failed tanking underneath.

Why deal with it now?

Colouring the surface of old grout is a quick cosmetic fix. They won’t fill gaps or keep water out, and stains can show through again. A proper regrout puts new grout in the joint. Around Camperdown, water from a failed joint in an older stone home can soak into timber and plaster.

The cost depends on the amount of work, how much old material has to come out and how easy the joints are to reach. You’ll have a clear quote before any work starts.

Do you need regrouting in Camperdown?

Some grout fails because it was mixed or laid badly. If it was mixed too wet or not pressed in firmly tends to wash out early.

Common reasons people contact us are:

  • Grout that is cracking and breaking up
  • Grout in corners that has cracked
  • Grout stained black or orange that won’t clean
  • Good tiles let down by tired grout

If you let a flat or house near Invergowrie station, clean grout and fresh sealant between tenancies make a bathroom look cared for again.

Questions to ask before booking

  • What the cure time is

Camperdown: your questions answered

Will you come out to Camperdown?

Yes. Camperdown is within the area we cover, which takes in towns, villages and rural addresses. Our work covers the whole of Scotland. Let us know about access, parking and anything unusual about getting there when you book.

I let a flat near Invergowrie station. Can you help?

Yes. We work for letting agents and landlords as well as homeowners, and several properties can go on one quote. Just send an email to info@mrmastic.co.uk with the address and what needs doing, and we will send you a clear quote.

Can you regrout just the shower?

Yes. We’ll check the other tiled areas as well and tell you if anything else needs attention.

What if some of my tiles are loose?

Tiles that have come away need sorting first. We will point them out at the start.

Will the old sealant be removed?

Yes, every time. New sealant will not bond properly to old, so the joint is cleaned back first.

Do you reseal at the same time?

Most of the time, yes. Grout and sealant do different jobs, so both are renewed and it’s all in the quote.

Is regrouting a chance to pick a new grout colour?

It can. Because the old grout is raked out, the new colour goes all the way into the joint, not just the surface.

What goes in the corners, grout or silicone?

Corners get silicone, not grout. They flex and grout can’t take that movement.

DIY versus a professional finish

The biggest DIY mistake is sealing over old sealant. Silicone doesn’t stick to old silicone, so it lifts and traps water and mould underneath. All the old material has to come out first.

Too much sealant is as bad as too little. A thick, smeared bead looks untidy and does not move well, and the joint depth matters as much as the finish.

Regrouting around Camperdown

Camperdown is close to the coast. Coastal homes, holiday lets and guest houses can see heavy bathroom use in busy months, and sealant and grout that work that hard wear out sooner. In Scotland, private landlords have to meet the Repairing Standard, which includes keeping fixtures and fittings in reasonable repair. Tired, leaking sealant is worth putting right before a new tenant moves in.

Schools such as Menzieshill High School are buildings too, and we reseal washrooms and kitchens in schools and businesses as well as homes.

What we do, step by step

We bring everything the job needs with us, so you do not need to buy or prepare anything. Once we’ve agreed what’s being done, we protect the area and start. It normally takes a few hours for a shower enclosure, longer for a whole room. Somewhere like Camperdown may be a longer drive, and the journey is planned ahead. Mention tracks, gates, ferries or anything else about the route.

  1. We check the tiles for any that are hollow or loose.
  2. The old grout is removed to an even depth.
  3. The joints are vacuumed clean.
  4. We regrout the joints and clean the tile faces.
  5. Silicone goes into the corners and along the edges.

Getting ready for the visit
