Regrouting near Duffus

What regrouting looks like in Duffus

Duffus is within about 2 miles of the coast. Near the coast, holiday lets and guest houses can see bathrooms used by one guest after another, and sealant and grout that work that hard wear out sooner. Scottish Water supplies are generally soft, so limescale is less of a problem than in hard-water areas. Mould is another matter: a bathroom that stays damp still turns sealant and grout black.

Around Duffus, as everywhere, regrouting is only as good as the preparation behind it.

About our regrouting in Duffus

We regroute showers, bathroom walls and floors, splashbacks and wet rooms. It can be a full room, or just the area that has failed. Whatever the size, the method stays the same. Typical jobs include floor grout that won’t come clean and cracked grout along the bath or tray, on wet rooms, tiled floors and bathroom wall tiles.

A bathroom in a place like Duffus gets the same daily wear as one in a city flat. Limescale is less of a problem with Scotland’s generally soft water, but mould still takes hold in damp sealant and grout.

The work is covered for a year after we finish. If there’s a problem with it, please drop us a line at info@mrmastic.co.uk.

When to call us in Duffus

Strong cleaning products and hard scrubbing slowly erode grout. Some bleaches and acid descalers break grout down with repeated use, leaving the joints sunken and rough.

People normally contact us after spotting something like this:

  • Dirty, worn grout on a tiled floor
  • Shower grout that has worn away
  • Discoloured grout on otherwise sound tiles
  • Grout in a colour the owner wants to change

For an older house near a landmark such as Parish Church, bathrooms in older houses have often been refitted more than once, with sealant laid over sealant.

10 questions to ask before booking

Questions from Duffus

What guarantee comes with regrouting in Duffus?

Every job comes with our one-year guarantee, wherever it is. We are also fully insured and ARBOMaster approved.

Is Duffus within the area you cover?

Yes. Duffus is within the area we cover, which takes in towns, villages and rural addresses. We work across all of Scotland. Just mention lanes, gates or anything else about the route when you book.

Do you do commercial work?

Yes. We work in offices, washrooms, hotels and other commercial premises. Working times can be discussed when we quote.

How do I get a quote for regrouting in Duffus?

Every job is different, so each one gets its own quote. To get one, drop us a line at info@mrmastic.co.uk with a short description of the job.

When can I use the shower again?

We give you a time before we leave. It depends on the grout and the sealant used, so follow the time we give you.

Do I have to be there?

It depends on the job. For work indoors, someone needs to let us in.

Can I do it myself?

You can, for simple jobs. Preparation is everything: all the old sealant out, and a clean, dry joint. We can always put it right if it fails.

Can you quote for more than one area?

Of course. Doing several areas at once is normally more efficient, so mention them when you ask for a quote.

What affects the quote in Duffus

Every job gets its own quote. These are the things that affect it:

  • Mould in or behind the old joints
  • How many areas need sealing
  • The old material and how stubborn it is
  • Working hours on commercial sites

Homes and businesses are quoted the same way: the amount of work, how we reach it and what it needs, plus any working-time requirements on site. Call for a quick quote and we’ll go through it with you.

What to tell us for a quote

You do not need to know the technical terms. Just tell us:

  • A few photos by email, if you can
  • Any previous sealing or DIY work
  • Where the property is
  • If it’s domestic, commercial or a hotel

Need a quote? Please drop us a line at info@mrmastic.co.uk and tell us about the job. You will know what we plan to do, and what it will cost, before any work begins.

When it isn’t the sealant

In fairness, there are a few things sealant will not fix:

  • Cracked or broken tiles
  • A leaking wet room membrane
  • Tiles that have come away from the wall

If in doubt, email us at info@mrmastic.co.uk and we will say what we think before you book.

What we seal

  • Bathroom floors
  • Tiled floors
  • Bathroom wall tiles
  • Shower walls
  • Wet rooms
  • Kitchen splashbacks

Different surfaces, different methods

Shower walls

A shower wall is soaked daily, so grout there works hardest. It’s often the first place grout washes out.

Corners and edges

Edges are resealed while we’re there, so the whole area is finished together.

For landlords and businesses

For anyone letting property in or around Duffus, jobs at different addresses can go on one quote. Send us the addresses and the work at each.

Letting agents and landlords in Duffus can book us as well as homeowners. Sealant work between tenants is a simple way to keep a property in good order before the next move-in.

How the visit works

At the end, we look at the finished work together and tell you how long to leave it. The visit itself generally takes anything from a few hours to a full day, depending on the area, depending on the size of the job. Outdoor work around Duffus depends on the weather, as sealant needs a dry surface, so an outdoor job can move if the forecast changes. Work indoors isn’t affected.

  1. First we agree what’s being done and flag any loose tiles.
  2. We remove the old grout carefully.
  3. The joints are cleaned out and vacuumed.
  4. The new grout goes in, then the tile faces are cleaned.
  5. Internal corners and edges are resealed.

Preparing for the visit

  • Let us know about parking restrictions
  • Keep children and pets away from the work area
  • Move anything stored near the joints

How to get a quote

Quotes start with a quick conversation. Describe the problem, the location and the size of the job, and we will talk you through what we’d do. Whenever you are ready, email us at info@mrmastic.co.uk.

Aftercare tips

Good habits help new joints last longer. A few tips:

  • Clean with a soft brush, not anything metal
  • Look at the sealant in the corners now and then
  • Clean grout with a mild bathroom cleaner
  • Run the extractor fan during and after a shower

Have any tile that moves checked straight away. A loose tile cracks the grout around it and lets water in.

Tiles can come away if failed grout is left. Once that happens, regrouting will not fix it so early action pays.
