Our bathroom resealing service in TN9

Resealing is a small job that makes a big difference. Mouldy silicone makes even a new bathroom look neglected, and a neat new joint puts that right in a short visit. Just as important, it closes the gaps water would otherwise get through. We’re often asked to deal with gaps where the bath or tray has moved and lumpy, uneven sealant from a DIY attempt, on shower trays & enclosures, basins & vanity units and kitchen worktops & upstands.

The work is kept neat and contained to the joints we are treating. Expect the work to take a morning or an afternoon for most single baths and showers.

  1. We cover the area around the joints we are working on.
  2. Old sealant is sliced away and the residue removed.
  3. Mould is treated, then the joint is left to dry thoroughly.
  4. Any bath is filled with water, then we lay a bead of anti-fungal silicone in white, clear or a matching colour.
  5. The joint is finished neatly and we explain when it can get wet.

What’s near Tonbridge

We work in homes and buildings around Church of St Peter and St Paul, Royal Rise Primary School and Hillview School for Girls and the streets around them. Nearby too are Ivy House Public House (less than half a mile west), New Beacon School (less than half a mile north-west) and Haysden Country Park (1.4 miles west). Tonbridge’s nearest station is Tonbridge station, roughly 0.6 miles south-west of the centre. Nearby you will also find The Milne Museum (within half a mile west) and Tonbridge Castle (less than half a mile south-west). Open spaces near Tonbridge include Tudeley Woods RSPB reserve and Barden Lake.

Bathrooms and kitchens across TN9

Across TN9, from Tonbridge outwards, we see bathrooms and kitchens of every age. Family bathrooms, rented flats and hotel en suites all need their sealant and grout renewing in time.

The South East is one of the drier parts of the UK, but outdoor sealant still needs a dry day and clean surfaces, so outside work in TN9 is planned around the forecast.

Tonbridge: Schools such as New Beacon School are buildings too, and its toilets, changing areas and kitchens need their sealant renewed like any other building’s. Rented homes near Tonbridge station change hands often, and a reseal between tenants is a quick way to make the bathroom and kitchen look cared for.

Can I do it myself?

A careful DIYer can reseal a simple joint, such as a straightforward joint indoors. The common mistakes are sealing over old sealant, sealing a damp joint and using far too much.

Too much sealant is as bad as too little. A thick, smeared bead looks untidy and doesn’t move well, and getting the depth right matters as much as the look.

What affects the cost of bathroom resealing

Jobs vary more than people expect. What affects the quote:

  • Whether there’s mould to deal with
  • Whether the work is at height
  • Working hours on commercial sites
  • The old material and how stubborn it is

What you pay reflects the work, not a rough estimate. That’s why we ask a few questions first and agree the price before starting.

What we need to know

Photos help, but a description is a good start. Please mention:

  • Roughly how big the job is
  • Photos by email, if that’s easy
  • What the problem is, such as mould, gaps, leaks or cracking
  • Whether it’s a home or a business

If you are in TN9 and need bathroom resealing, call 0345 464 0079 or send us an email. A short description of the job and where it is helps us quote, and you’ll get a clear quote before we start.

Looking after it afterwards

Looking after new joints is easy, and it makes a real difference:

  • Open a window or run the fan so the room dries
  • Look for lifting corners and small gaps now and then
  • Avoid abrasive pads on the sealant
  • Give the silicone its full cure time

Clean the silicone with care: a mild bathroom cleaner and a soft cloth is enough. Avoid scouring pads and anything sharp, because a damaged bead gives mould a foothold.

Mould that starts as a few spots spreads through the bead. Once it’s deep in the silicone, cleaning usually will not remove it. Catching it early keeps it a simple reseal.

What we’re called out for in TN9

Sealing over old silicone is one of the commonest mistakes we find. Fresh silicone cannot grip the old bead underneath, so it lifts, lets water in and traps mould underneath.

If you can see any of these, it’s time to have the joints looked at:

  • New sealant laid over old sealant that is now lifting
  • Water getting behind the kitchen upstand
  • A messy, uneven bead from a previous reseal
  • Leaking joints on a shower screen

Surface by surface

Kitchen worktops & upstands

Upstands and back edges are cut out, cleaned of grease and resealed, since cooking leaves a film that stops silicone sticking. Proper degreasing is what helps the new joint last.

Shower trays & enclosures

A tray that rocks will split any sealant. We check for movement before we reseal, and tell you if it needs re-bedding first.

FAQs for TN9

Do you cover TN9?

Yes. We work in TN9 and the rest of Kent, as part of our work across South East England, London and Scotland. To book, call 0345 464 0079 or email us.

How long before the new sealant can get wet?

The surface skins over fairly quickly, but the bead needs longer to cure right through. Keep water off it for around 24 hours, or as long as we advise for that product.

Do I need to be at home?

Access is agreed with you when the job is booked. For inside work, that normally means someone being in.

Can I do it myself?

You can, for simple jobs. The key is preparation: remove all the old material and work on a clean, dry joint. If it doesn’t work out, we can redo it.

How long will the resealing take?

A single bath or shower takes about a couple of hours, old sealant removal included. A full bathroom and kitchen can take most of a day.

Do you take out the old sealant first?

Yes. All of the old material is cut out and the joint cleaned.

I’m a tenant. Can you help?

Of course. Ask your landlord first, and we can send them the quote if that helps.
