Sealant work in HS1

Our bathroom resealing service in HS1

A bead that has gone black, split or come away shouldn’t be left until there’s a leak. A photo of the joints helps when you send an email to info@mrmastic.co.uk, and we will send you a clear quote for bathroom resealing in HS1. Typical jobs include leaking joints on a shower screen and black spots spreading through the bead, on wet rooms, basins & vanity units and shower trays & enclosures.

Before we leave, we go over the finished joints with you and tell you how long to leave it. The visit itself normally takes half a day or less for one room, longer when the kitchen is included, depending on the amount of work.

  1. Protection goes down around the bath, shower or worktop.
  2. Old sealant is sliced away and the residue removed.
  3. We treat any mould and let the joint dry properly.
  4. Baths are filled first, then anti-fungal sanitary silicone is applied in a colour to suit.
  5. We finish the joint, clear up and tell you how long to leave it before it gets wet.

How we quote

No two jobs are quite the same, so each one gets its own quote. Size, access and the product the joint needs all play a part, and we will explain the quote if you ask.

What you get with us

  • White, clear, grey or another colour, product permitting
  • An ARBOMaster approved applicator
  • A 12-month guarantee on all work

Bathroom resealing across HS1: local notes

Homes across HS1 range from older properties to new builds, with plenty of rented property in places like Stornoway, Plasterfield and Laxdale. Bathroom resealing keeps bathrooms and kitchens watertight and looking cared for.

The west of Scotland is wetter than the east, but outside joints take plenty of weather everywhere, while generally soft water means less limescale indoors but no less mould. That shapes the choice of sealant for jobs across HS1. Along the coast in HS1, window and wall joints facing the sea take the brunt of the weather, so they’re often the first to fail. The right product and careful preparation help it last.

Stornoway: For jobs in and around Stornoway, choosing the right material for each joint is as important as a tidy finish. Around Stornoway, as everywhere, bathroom resealing is only as good as the preparation behind it.

What affects the cost of bathroom resealing

The price is agreed before any work begins. It’s based on:

  • Working hours on commercial sites
  • How many rooms, windows or areas are involved
  • The number and length of the joints
  • Whether the work is at height

What it costs depends on how much there is to do, how much old material has to come out and how easy the joints are to reach. We give a clear quote before we start, so you know where you stand.

What to tell us for a quote

You don’t need to know the technical terms. It helps if you can tell us:

  • Any previous sealing or DIY work
  • Whether it’s a home or a business
  • What’s wrong with the joints now
  • How we’d reach the joints

Every job is quoted individually, so start by telling us what you need. Simply send an email to info@mrmastic.co.uk and describe the job, and photos are welcome.

Landlord and commercial work in HS1

We also work for businesses, from offices to washrooms and kitchens. On commercial sites, working times can be discussed when we quote.

In hotels, rooms out of use cost money, so we plan the work room by room around your bookings where we can. Hotel work is part of what we do, alongside homes and businesses.

How to look after the new joints

Aftercare is simple:

  • Look for lifting corners and small gaps now and then
  • Open a window or run the fan so the room dries
  • Dry the bead with a towel now and then
  • Keep bottles off the sealant line

Mould needs damp, so keep the room aired. Use the fan, or open a window, while you bathe and for a while afterwards, so the bead dries out between uses.

Worktop joints fail quietly. Splashes run behind the back edge and soak into the worktop, where it can make the board swell. Resealing before that happens protects the worktop.

What we’re called out for in HS1

Sealing over old silicone is one of the commonest mistakes we find. New silicone will not bond to old silicone, so it lifts, lets water in and traps mould underneath.

The most common problems we see are:

  • Sealant that has split, shrunk or peeled away
  • Lumpy, uneven sealant from a DIY attempt
  • Damp behind the bath or under the tray
  • Mouldy sealant that has gone black

Different surfaces, different methods

Wet rooms

Wet room floors move slightly as they’re used, so the internal corners need silicone rather than grout. Cracked grout in a corner can be cut out and replaced with silicone.

Shower trays & enclosures

Shower trays are sealed to the wall, and enclosures are sealed to the tray and tiles. Both get soaked every time the shower runs, so both are resealed with anti-fungal sanitary silicone.
