Saline: your questions answered

Can you do new build mastic in Saline?

Yes, Saline is within the area we cover. Our work covers the whole of Scotland. Just send an email to info@mrmastic.co.uk with a few details of the job, and we’ll give you a clear quote.

Do you cover smaller places like Saline?

Yes, smaller places are covered as well as towns. We work across all of Scotland. Just mention lanes, gates or anything else about the route when you book.

Are you insured?

Yes. We’re fully insured, and we can confirm the details when we quote.

Are you an approved applicator?

Yes. ARBOMaster is the approved applicator scheme for Arbo sealants, and we are part of it.

Do you use white or clear sealant?

That depends on what the joint meets: white or clear in most bathrooms, and a colour to suit worktops, frames and floors elsewhere. We’ll agree it with you first.

Is it worth resealing while the house is still settling?

Where water is getting through, don’t wait. Hairline cosmetic gaps can wait until the house has settled.

What information do you need?

Only a few details: the address or postcode, what’s wrong and any access issues. Then email us at info@mrmastic.co.uk.

Will it make a mess?

Very little: the area around the joints is protected first, and we clear up the old sealant and our materials before we leave.

New build mastic for homes and businesses in Saline

A new house keeps drying out and settling for its first couple of years. Timber shrinks, plaster dries and baths and trays bed down, so sealant that was laid quickly before handover often cracks. Typical jobs include worktop and upstand sealant coming away and sealant that never bonded to the surface, across windows & doors, skirting & floors and plot handovers.

Many newer homes in Scotland are timber-framed and settle as they dry out, which shows as gaps at skirtings and floor joints. In older homes, timber floors move through the year too.

You’re covered for a year from the day we finish. If anything is not right with it, email us at info@mrmastic.co.uk.

Quotes for new build mastic in Saline

For a quick quote, just ask. What matters most is:

  • Which sealant suits the joint
  • The amount of work
  • Access and height
  • How many areas need sealing

The cost reflects the work involved, not a rough estimate. That is why we ask about the job first and agree the price before starting.

What we need to know

You do not need to know the technical terms. Just tell us:

  • A few photos by email, if you can
  • Roughly how big the job is
  • Where the property is
  • How we’d reach the joints

Want a quote for new build mastic? Please email us at info@mrmastic.co.uk and tell us about the job. You’ll know what we plan to do, and what it will cost, before any work begins.

What sealant work can’t fix

New sealant can’t fix everything, and we’d rather say so up front. Sealant will not put right:

  • A tray or bath that isn’t properly supported, until it’s fixed
  • Leaks from pipes, valves or wastes, which need a plumber
  • Structural cracks in walls or ceilings

If you are not sure, just email us at info@mrmastic.co.uk and we will give you a straight answer before booking.

What happens on the day

Good joint work is mostly preparation, and we don’t rush it. Joints are cleaned back and dried before anything new goes in. All told, the work takes a few hours for most snagging lists, longer for a run of plots. Somewhere like Saline may be a longer drive, and the journey is planned ahead. Tell us about tracks, gates, a ferry crossing or anything unusual about getting there.

  1. Each joint is checked for movement before any work starts.
  2. Old sealant is cut out and the joints cleaned.
  3. We make sure the joints are dry and prime them if needed.
  4. New sealant goes in, with baths filled first so they’re at their heaviest.
  5. The finished joints are checked and the cure times given.

Before we arrive

  • Mention any leaks or damp you’ve noticed
  • Mention any tricky access
  • Where the joints are inside, avoid wetting them before we arrive

Advice

DIY sealant or a professional job?

Overfilling a joint is a classic DIY mistake. A thick, smeared bead looks untidy and does not move well, and getting the depth right matters as much as the look.

What a professional job adds is preparation and the right product. We take joints back to clean, dry surfaces, and the sealant is chosen for how the joint moves and where it is, then guaranteed for a year.

What the job involves on each surface

Show homes

We can refresh show-home sealant that has discoloured or been knocked. The old bead comes out and a clean new one goes in.

Bathrooms and en suites

Shower trays in new homes often move slightly in the first year. The joint is stripped back before the new bead goes in and baths are filled before sealing.

Looking after it afterwards

Aftercare is simple:

  • Open a window or run the fan after bathing
  • Avoid running a DIY bead over the old one
  • Clean sealant with mild detergent, not abrasives
  • Wait for the cure time before using a resealed shower

Watch the joints as the house settles. Small gaps can appear as the house dries.

A seal that splits early is often a sign of movement. Have it resealed, and the tray or bath checked, before it gets worse.

Signs you need new build mastic in Saline

Not every new-build joint gets the right sealant: caulk where water collects, or a rigid product on a moving joint. Both fail early.

Common reasons people contact us include:

  • Worktop and upstand sealant coming away
  • Plot mastic for developers ahead of handover
  • New-build shower sealant that has already split
  • Cracked sealant around new window and door frames

For jobs in and around Saline, choosing the right material for each joint is as important as a tidy finish.

Comparing quotes

  • Are they insured?
  • Is the old sealant removed completely?
  • Whether you can choose the colour
  • What product goes in the joint
