Gutter sealing near Saline

About our gutter sealing in Saline

Open fascia and soffit joints spoil the roofline and can let weather in. We seal them in a colour to suit where one is available. We work on soffit joints, gutter joints and garage door frames, and the jobs we see most are internal damp traced to a gutter joint and end caps that drip every time it rains.

Older stone buildings need a sealant that suits the stone, not an acetoxy product that can mark or attack it. On newer homes, the movement joints and roofline trims are what need watching.

The work is covered for a year after we finish. If there’s a problem with it, please send an email to info@mrmastic.co.uk.

Your questions about gutter sealing in Saline

Will you come out to Saline?

Yes. Saline is within the area we cover, which takes in towns, villages and rural addresses. We work across all of Scotland. Let us know about access, parking and anything unusual about getting there when you book.

Is Saline in your area for gutter sealing?

Yes. We work across all of Scotland, and Saline is part of that. Just drop us a line at info@mrmastic.co.uk with a few details of the job.

Can you seal over the old sealant?

No. The old sealant always comes out first, so the new joint bonds to clean surfaces.

How long will you be here?

It depends on the size of the job, but most jobs take anything from an hour or two to a few hours. We’ll tell you when we quote.

Will sealant fix a dripping gutter joint?

Normally, if the gutter is sound. The joint is cleaned and dried first so the sealant bonds.

Can I do it myself?

For a simple, easy-to-reach joint, a careful DIYer can do a reasonable job. The usual mistakes are sealing over old sealant, sealing a damp joint and using too much.

Do you offer different sealant colours?

Yes. White, clear and grey are common, and other colours are available for many products, and we’ll agree it with you first.

Is gutter cleaning part of the job?

We clear what’s around the joints we work on. Full gutter cleaning is a separate job.

How to look after the new joints

Looking after new joints is easy, and it makes a real difference:

  • Watch for drips in a downpour
  • Check that water runs out of the downpipes
  • Check fascia and soffit joints for gaps
  • Don’t lean ladders against the gutter itself

Have a look at the gutter during a downpour now and then. It’s the easiest time to see a leak.

If an end cap is dripping, deal with it before winter. Water down the wall all winter can cause damp.

How the job changes by surface

Garage door frames

A fresh seal around the frame stops rain getting in.

Gutter joints

When a joint drips, the gutter is often still sound. Resealing is usually enough.

What we do, step by step

Most of a good job is in the preparation, and we don’t rush it. Every joint is cleaned and dried before new material goes in. All told, the work takes an hour or two for a few joints, longer for a full run. Outside jobs in Saline need a dry day, because sealant will not bond to a wet joint, so an outdoor job can move if the forecast changes. Indoor work goes ahead whatever the weather.

  1. We start by tracing the leak and checking the gutter itself is sound.
  2. We clean out the joint and take out the old sealant.
  3. The area is dried so the sealant can bond.
  4. Gutter or exterior sealant is applied and finished.
  5. The run is checked and any debris near the joints is cleared.

Before we arrive

  • Tell us about any previous sealing or DIY attempts
  • Where the joints are inside, avoid wetting them before we arrive
  • Mention any sign-in or site rules at work premises

Gutter sealing in Saline: local notes

With historic houses such as Culross Palace (about 4.7 miles south-west) nearby, there’s older building stock in the area around Saline as well as newer homes. Where a home is older, older walls and rooflines need a sealant that moves with them and suits the material. Plenty of Scottish homes have harled walls, and joints where harling meets other materials need a sealant that can grip and flex.

In and around Saline, as anywhere, good gutter sealing starts with a clean, dry, properly prepared joint.

Common problems we fix in Saline

A sealant applied to a damp or dirty joint will not bond. Rushed repairs often don’t last long.

It’s worth asking for a quote if you see:

  • Internal damp traced to a gutter joint
  • Streaks down the brickwork from a leaking joint
  • Garage door frames letting rain in
  • Old gutter sealant that has let go

For an older house near a landmark such as Parish Church, older walls, gutters and the joints where extensions meet them need a flexible sealant.

When something else is needed

It helps to know what we cannot do too:

  • A gutter length that has split
  • Fascias that need replacing
  • Leaks from the roof rather than a joint

If in doubt, drop us a line at info@mrmastic.co.uk and we will say what we think before booking.

How we quote for gutter sealing

The quote reflects the job in front of us. We take into account:

  • Which sealant suits the joint
  • How much there is to do
  • How many areas need sealing
  • Any mould that needs treating

We don’t show prices on the website, because the cost depends so much on the job itself. Call for a quick quote and we’ll talk you through it.

What to tell us for a quote

Photos by email are helpful but not essential. Try to tell us:

  • If it’s domestic, commercial or a hotel
  • Any previous sealing or DIY work
  • What the problem is, such as mould, gaps, leaks or cracking
  • The rough size of the job

Call for a quick quote, or email us if that’s easier. Describe what needs sealing and we’ll explain what’s involved and give you a clear price.

What happens if it’s left?

Sealant will not clear a blocked downpipe. We check the cause first and point you to the right trade if needed. In a place like Saline, small leaks are easy to put off, but water through a failed joint keeps working away until it’s fixed.

Some things make a job bigger or smaller: how much old sealant there is and how stubborn it is, whether mould needs treating, and whether we need extra access for height. Your quote takes all of that into account.
