Trusted new build mastic in Alves

What happens if it’s left?

A hairline gap at a skirting can wait, but water getting through cannot. If you are unsure which you have, drop us a line at info@mrmastic.co.uk with photos. Out of town in Scotland, exposed walls take a lot of weather, and damp in stone or harled walls takes a long time to dry once water gets behind a joint.

Some things make a job bigger or smaller: the old material and how easily it comes out, whether mould needs treating, and whether we need extra access for height. We take all of that into account in your quote.

Why book with us

  • Any old sealant cut out fully, not covered over

How we handle new build mastic in Alves

Failed shower seals, gaps along the skirting and messy beads are common items on a new-home snagging list. While the builder’s snagging or warranty period runs, report it to them first and if that stalls, we can do it. Common call-outs are for sealant work across a run of new homes and sealant that never bonded to the surface, on kitchens, show homes and skirting & floors.

Around smaller Scottish places like Alves, new homes tend to be single plots or small developments. Each needs its sealant and floor joints finished as carefully as on a big site.

Honest limits

Before you book, it’s worth knowing the limits:

  • A tray or bath that isn’t properly supported, until it’s fixed
  • Damaged fittings that need replacing
  • Plumbing faults behind the sealant

Not sure which it is? You can send an email to info@mrmastic.co.uk and we’ll tell you honestly before you book.

What affects the cost of new build mastic

The price is agreed before any work begins. It’s based on:

  • Any working-time requirements on site
  • The old material and how stubborn it is
  • How many areas need sealing
  • How much there is to do

No two jobs are quite the same, so we quote each one individually. Size, access and the product the joint needs all make a difference, and we’ll explain the quote if you ask.

Asking for a quote

Photos by email are helpful but not essential. Try to tell us:

  • Where the property is
  • Whether it has been sealed before
  • Roughly how big the job is
  • What’s wrong with the joints now

It all starts with a short chat. Tell us what’s wrong, where it is and how much there is, and we’ll explain how we’d tackle it. When it suits you, send an email to info@mrmastic.co.uk.

Signs you need new build mastic in Alves

Not every new-build joint gets the right sealant: decorators’ caulk in a wet area, or a stiff sealant where there’s movement. Neither lasts long.

Any of these means the joints need attention:

  • Smeared, uneven beads picked up at snagging
  • Gaps between new skirting and floors
  • Shower seals failing in the first year or two
  • Joints pulling apart as timber shrinks

Around Alves, as everywhere, new build mastic is only as good as the preparation behind it.

How the visit works

Before we leave, we go over the finished joints with you and tell you how long to leave it. The visit itself generally takes a few hours for most snagging lists, longer for a run of plots, depending on the amount of work. Somewhere like Alves may be a longer drive, and the journey is planned ahead. Tell us about tracks, gates, a ferry crossing or anything unusual about getting there.

  1. We start by going through the snagging items or plot schedule with you.
  2. Every bit of the old builder’s sealant is cut out down to clean surfaces.
  3. We clean out the dust and grit left from the build.
  4. We prime where needed and apply a sealant suited to each joint.
  5. We tool every joint neatly and tell you when each area can be used.

Before we arrive

  • For indoor joints, keep the area dry beforehand if you can
  • Mention any sign-in or site rules at work premises
  • Tell us if parking is tricky

FAQs for Alves

Is Alves within the area you cover?

Yes. Alves is within the area we cover, which takes in towns, villages and rural addresses. Our work covers the whole of Scotland. Just mention lanes, gates or anything else about the route when you book.

Can you do new build mastic in Alves?

Yes, Alves is within the area we cover. We work across all of Scotland. You can email us at info@mrmastic.co.uk and let us know what needs doing, and we will send you a clear quote.

Do you take out the old sealant first?

Always. Sealing over old sealant is the main reason resealing fails early, so we never do it.

Can I add another job to the visit?

Yes. Just list everything you need.

Is there any odour?

Some sealants have a smell while they cure. Opening a window helps.

Where are you based?

Our base is in Crawley, and we cover South East England, London and all of Scotland.

Do you work for landlords and businesses?

Yes. As well as householders, we work for landlords, agents, businesses and hotels across Moray.

Will you leave a mess?

Tidy work is part of the job. We protect what’s around the joints, and we clear up when we’re done.

Looking after it afterwards

A little care helps the new joints last. We recommend:

  • Ventilate bathrooms well, especially in the first year
  • Do not seal over failed sealant yourself
  • Wait for the cure time before using a resealed shower
  • Get a leaking seal dealt with right away

Watch the joints as the house settles. Small gaps can appear as the house dries.

Report failed sealant to the builder while you’re in the snagging period. Once it ends, the repair may be down to you so report it promptly.

Can I do it myself?

Some jobs are best left to a professional: work at height, external movement joints, fire-rated sealant and large areas call for the right materials, safe access and experience.

The difference is mostly in the preparation and the product. Joints are cleaned back to sound surfaces and dried, and the sealant is matched to the joint and its conditions.
