About our gutter sealing in Crieff

Water dripping from a gutter joint can stain walls and soak the ground below. Often a reseal is enough, as long as the gutter is sound. If you have fascia boards with gaps between them and rain getting in around a garage door, we can put it right.

Stone walls need a stone-friendly sealant, as acetoxy products can attack some stone. On newer homes, the movement joints and roofline trims are what need watching.

Every job is covered by a one-year guarantee, wherever you are in Perth and Kinross.

Leave it or put it right?

A new garage door isn’t needed for a leaking frame. Resealing the frame joint is often enough, if the frame itself is sound. When the nearest tradesperson is a drive away, it’s tempting to leave a small leak, but water through a failed joint keeps working away until it’s fixed.

Leaving a failed joint usually makes the job bigger, not smaller, as water and mould keep getting in. If you’re not sure whether it needs doing, email us at info@mrmastic.co.uk and we will give you an honest view and a quote.

Crieff questions

Is there a guarantee on gutter sealing in Crieff?

All our work, in Crieff and everywhere else, comes with a 12-month guarantee. We are also fully insured and ARBOMaster approved.

Do you cover Crieff for gutter sealing?

Yes, Crieff is within the area we cover. We work across all of Scotland. You can send an email to info@mrmastic.co.uk and tell us what needs doing, and we will give you a clear price.

Will it make a mess?

Not at all. The area is protected while we work and cleaned up afterwards.

Is gutter cleaning part of the job?

We clear debris near the joints, so the sealant can bond. A full gutter clean is a separate job.

How long will you be here?

A typical job takes an hour or two for a few joints, longer for a full run, including preparation and clearing up. Your quote will say how long we expect yours to take.

Can new sealant go over the old?

No, because it fails. The old sealant always comes out first.

Do the sealants smell?

Some sealants have a smell while they cure, but it fades. Ventilation helps.

Is it worth trying it myself?

Some simple jobs can be done by a careful DIYer. Most DIY failures come from sealing over old material, wet joints or too much sealant.

How it works

All our tools and materials come with us in the van, so you do not need to buy or prepare anything. After a quick look at the joints together, we protect the area and start. It normally takes a few hours, depending on the number of joints and the access. Around Crieff, distance and access matter more than parking. Let us know how to find you and how to reach the joints, and the visit is planned around that.

  1. First, we find the drip and check the gutter is not cracked or sagging.
  2. The joint or trim is cleaned out and old sealant removed.
  3. The joint is dried, because sealant won’t bond to a wet surface.
  4. An exterior or gutter sealant is applied to the joint.
  5. The run is checked and any debris near the joints is cleared.

Getting ready for the visit

  • Mention any leaks or damp you’ve noticed
  • Let us know about stairs, lifts or work at height
  • Let us know about parking restrictions

How to look after the new joints

After the cure time, these simple habits help:

  • Keep an eye out for wet patches below a joint
  • Glance at the soffit joints now and then
  • Do not leave a sagging gutter
  • Watch for drips in a downpour

Give the sealant the cure time we tell you before poking or cleaning near it.

Split sealant on fascias and trims lets water in behind. Sealing it early keeps the boards behind dry and the wall below.

Different surfaces, different methods

Soffit joints

Soffit board joints can separate over time. We seal them to close the gaps.

Roofline trims

Trims along the roofline are often finished with sealant. When it splits, water can get behind.

Honest limits

New sealant cannot fix everything, and we’d rather say so up front. It will not solve:

  • Problems with the roof covering
  • Guttering that needs replacing
  • Water backing up from a blocked pipe

If you’re not sure, just email us at info@mrmastic.co.uk and we will give you a straight answer.

Should I try it myself first?

Sealing over old silicone is the commonest DIY error. New silicone will not bond to old, so it peels away and traps moisture behind it. All the old material has to come out first.

Some jobs are best left to a professional: high-level joints, fire-rated gaps, external movement joints and big jobs need the right product, the right access and the right method.

We also work for businesses, from offices to washrooms and kitchens. On commercial sites, working times can be discussed when we quote.

Water getting past a failed joint can damage the building, which matters even more when someone else lives there. Resealing at the right time is simple maintenance that we can handle for you.

Gutter sealing in Crieff: local notes

Under the Repairing Standard, private landlords in Scotland have to keep homes wind and watertight, and failed outside joints work against that. Harled (roughcast) walls are common in Scotland, and where harling meets frames, pipes and other materials, the joint needs a flexible sealant that grips a rough surface.

Homes close to St Michael's Hall include some older properties, and the joints between older walls, newer extensions and the roofline need a sealant that can move. Managing a site like Morrison's Academy? Then larger buildings have long runs of movement joint that eventually need resealing.
