Remedial sealant in Crieff

How the job changes by surface

Movement & expansion joints

Bonding on three sides is a common reason movement joints tear. Backing stops that, letting the sealant flex between the two faces.

Mouldy bath & shower sealant

Mould often spreads under the bead as well as through it. We treat the exposed joint once the bead is out so the new sealant starts clean.

How we handle remedial sealant in Crieff

A joint that keeps letting you down needs more than another bead. It helps to have pictures when you email us at info@mrmastic.co.uk, and say how long ago it was last done. Typical jobs include smears and lumps from a botched reseal and kitchen joints letting water behind the worktop, on botched or over-sealed joints, leaking tray & enclosure joints and shrunken worktop sealant.

For a place like Crieff, the job is the same as anywhere: old material out, joints cleaned and dried, and a fresh, even finish. The journey and access are simply planned in advance.

A 12-month guarantee comes as standard, so you’re not left on your own once the job is done.

Yes. Our work covers the whole of Scotland, and Crieff is part of that. Just drop us a line at info@mrmastic.co.uk with a few details of the job, and we will give you a clear price.

What information do you need?

A short description and the location, with photos by email if possible. We’ll ask anything else we need to know.

Will the old sealant be removed?

Will it make a mess?

We keep the work tidy. We protect what’s around the joints, and the area is left clean when we finish.

Can landlords and businesses book you?

Yes. We work for homeowners, landlords, letting agents, businesses and hotels.

Do you hold any approvals?

Yes. We’re an ARBOMaster approved applicator, which is run for the Arbo sealant brand.

How much does remedial sealant cost in Crieff?

Every job is different, so each one gets its own quote. To get one, drop us a line at info@mrmastic.co.uk and let us know what needs doing and where.

What sealant work cannot fix

Some problems need a builder, plumber or other trade rather than us:

  • A cracked shower tray or bath (that needs repair or replacing)
  • Movement from fittings that are not supported
  • Leaks from a shower valve, waste or pipework (a plumber’s job)

Not sure which it is? You can email us at info@mrmastic.co.uk and we will tell you honestly.

What we seal

  • Mouldy bath & shower sealant
  • Botched or over-sealed joints
  • Failed movement joints
  • Expansion joints
  • Leaking tray & enclosure joints
  • Shrunken worktop sealant

How it works

A visit follows a simple pattern: we check the joints, mask and protect the surrounding surfaces, do the work and clear up. It generally takes a few hours for a typical bath or shower, longer where several layers have been applied. In smaller Scottish places, parking is generally less of an issue than access and distance. Let us know how to find you and how to reach the joints.

  1. First we work out whether the problem is the sealant, movement or a leak.
  2. Each layer is cut out and the residue cleaned off.
  3. We treat any mould and dry the joint thoroughly.
  4. The right product goes in, with backing where the joint moves.
  5. The joint is tooled and you’re told about anything else we found.

Before we arrive

  • Mention any leaks or damp you’ve noticed
  • Keep pets and children clear of the area while we work
  • Tell us about access, such as stairs, a lift or high-level joints

Landlords, agents and businesses in Crieff

Whether it’s one flat or a portfolio, the work is the same standard: old sealant fully removed, joints prepared properly and a one-year guarantee.

We also work for businesses, from offices to washrooms and kitchens. For commercial premises, we can talk through working times when we quote.

DIY versus a professional finish

If you are set on DIY, put the effort into preparation: remove every trace of old sealant, clean and dry the joint, and follow the product’s cure time. If it does not work out, we can still put it right.

Some sealant jobs are within reach of a careful DIYer, such as a straightforward joint indoors. Where it goes wrong is sealing over the old bead, working on a wet joint or overloading the gap.

Bathrooms and kitchens in Crieff

There are hotels and other places to stay in and around Crieff. As well as homes, we work in hotel bathrooms, where resealing and regrouting can be done room by room. In Scotland, private landlords have to meet the Repairing Standard, which includes keeping fixtures and fittings in reasonable repair. Tired, leaking sealant is worth putting right before a new tenant moves in.

If you live in an older home near St Michael's Hall, bathrooms in older houses have often been refitted more than once, with sealant laid over sealant. For site and facilities teams at buildings such as Morrison's Academy, its toilets, changing areas and kitchens need their sealant renewed like any other building’s.

Why deal with it now?

Ripping out a bathroom is not normally needed. If the bath, tray and tiles are sound, remedial resealing usually puts it right. If they’re not, we will tell you. Exposed walls in smaller Scottish places take a lot of wind and rain, and once water gets behind a failed joint, damp in stone or harled walls is slow to dry out.

The cost reflects the work involved, not a rough estimate. That is why we ask about the job first and give you a clear quote before any work starts.

Keeping the joints in good condition

After the cure time, these simple habits help:

  • Do not wait for a small gap to become a leak
  • Ask why a joint failed before redoing it
  • Do not point over movement joints
  • Check trays and worktops don’t move

Do not let anyone seal over it later. New silicone doesn’t bond to old.

If a joint has failed more than once, stop resealing it. Have someone find out why, or the next bead will go the same way.
