External mastic for homes and businesses in The Green
Ground-floor and low-level joints are straightforward to reach. For joints higher up, give us some details of the building and we will confirm what’s needed to reach them safely. We work on render & cladding joints, façade panels and brickwork movement joints, and people most often call us about sealant pulling away from one side of the joint and rigid filler in a joint that should flex.
Somewhere as small as The Green, homes and farm buildings often face open ground, so walls and rooflines take the full force of wind and rain. Gutter joints and wall joints there need a sealant that can flex and stay put.
You get a 12-month guarantee, the same in The Green as everywhere else we work.

When something else is needed
Sealant isn’t the answer to every problem, and we’d rather say so up front. It will not solve:
- Rising or penetrating damp from elsewhere in the wall
- Render that is blown, hollow or coming away
- Cracks in the bricks or render themselves, away from the joints
Not sure which it is? You can phone 0345 464 0079 or send us an email and we’ll tell you honestly before booking.
What we seal

- Joints between brick and frames
- Façade panels

How we quote for external mastic
For a quick quote, just ask. The main things that affect it are:
- How many rooms, windows or areas are involved
- Any mould that needs treating
- How easy the joints are to reach
- The number and length of the joints
Commercial jobs are quoted on the same basis as homes: the amount of work, how we reach it and what it needs, plus any working-time requirements on site. Call for a quick quote and we’ll go through it with you.
Asking for a quote
There’s no need for technical detail. Just tell us:
- The rough size of the job
- Where the property is
- If someone has resealed it before
- If it’s domestic, commercial or a hotel
The more we know about the job, the more useful the quote. Tell us where the job is, what’s wrong and how much there is.
What external mastic looks like in The Green
Compared with the north and west, the South East gets less rain, yet outdoor joints still have to be sealed dry, so jobs are booked with the weather in mind.
If you live in an older home near St Barnabas, old and new materials meet at the roofline and walls, which is where sealant earns its keep. If you let a flat or house near Cressing station, failed wall and movement joints let damp in, so they’re worth checking between tenancies.

How it works
When we get to you, we compare the joints with what we discussed. If anything is different, we explain it before carrying on. Most jobs then take anything from a few hours to several days, depending on the building. Somewhere like The Green needs a little journey planning: let us know about lanes, gates and parking. Everything for the job comes with us, so a second trip is avoided where possible.
- Each joint is checked and the colour of the new sealant agreed.
- Failed sealant is removed back to clean, sound faces.
- Closed-cell backing rod is pushed in so the sealant bonds to two sides only.
- We prime the faces where required.
- We gun in low-modulus sealant and tool it neatly.
Preparing for the visit
- For business premises, tell us about site rules or sign-in
- Let us know if you’ve seen damp or leaks
- Clear the area around the work

Different surfaces, different methods
Joints between dissimilar materials
Where a frame or panel meets masonry, water often finds a way in. We cut out the old sealant and reseal with a product suited to both surfaces.
Brickwork movement joints
Vertical joints in long brick walls let the brickwork expand without cracking. We reseal them with a low-modulus sealant over backing rod coloured to suit the wall.
Can I do it myself?
Sealing over old silicone is the commonest DIY error. Silicone doesn’t stick to old silicone, so it peels away and traps moisture behind it. Everything old must be removed first.
Too much sealant is as bad as too little. A thick, smeared bead looks untidy and doesn’t move well, and the joint depth matters as much as the finish.
When to call us in The Green
Some movement joints have been pointed up with mortar. The joint cannot move, so the wall cracks somewhere else instead.
These are the problems we are asked about most:
- Weathered mastic that no longer stretches
- Rigid filler in a joint that should flex
- Damp patches traced to an open external joint
- Sealant that has lost its bond to the brick or render
Schools such as Cressing Primary School are buildings too, and larger buildings have long runs of movement joint that eventually need resealing.
Before you book anyone
- Which sealant they’ll use, and why
- Whether VAT is included
- When the joint can take water or movement

FAQs for The Green
Is The Green within the area you cover?
Yes, smaller places are covered as well as towns. Our work covers London and the South East. Let us know about access, parking and anything unusual about getting there when you book.
I let a flat near Cressing station. Can you help?
Yes, rental work is part of what we do. You can ring 0345 464 0079 or email us with the address and a few details, and we will give you a fixed price before any work starts.
Is it messy?
Tidy work is part of the job. Nearby surfaces are protected.
What information do you need?
Let us know what needs doing and where, plus pictures if you have them. If we need more, we will ask.
Where do you work from?
Our base is in Crawley, and we cover South East England, London and all of Scotland.
Are you an approved applicator?
Yes. We’re approved under the ARBOMaster scheme, which is run for the Arbo sealant brand.
Should I point up the gap in my brickwork?
No, not if it’s a movement joint. Filling it with mortar defeats its purpose, and the wall may crack nearby. A flexible sealant is the right fill.
When will the joints need doing again?
That depends on the wall, the weather and the movement. Signs to watch for are cracking, hardening and gaps at the edges, and reseal at that point.
For landlords and businesses
A neglected joint can let water reach the structure, which matters even more when someone else lives there. Resealing at the right time is simple maintenance.
Letting agents and landlords in The Green can book us as well as householders. Sealant work between tenants keeps a property looking cared for before the next move-in.
