The Green questions
Do you cover smaller places like The Green?
Yes, we do. Our work covers London and the South East, and smaller places are part of that. The journey is planned ahead, so it helps to know about access.
Can you help a landlord with a rental near Cressing station?
Yes. We work for landlords and agents as well as homeowners. You can ring 0345 464 0079 or email us with the details for a clear quote.
Can I paint over the new sealant?
Not normally, if it’s silicone. We choose the product with your decorating in mind, so mention it when you book.
Does someone need to be in?
If the work is inside, we need someone to let us in. After that, you can carry on with your day.
Can new sealant go over the old?
No. The old sealant always comes out first, so the new sealant bonds properly.
Should I try DIY first?
You can, for simple jobs. The key is preparation: remove all the old material and work on a clean, dry joint. We can always put it right if it fails.
Will it make a mess?
Not at all. The area is protected while we work and cleaned up afterwards.
Do you do commercial work?
Yes, regularly. We can plan bigger jobs in stages to suit the site.
Window mastic for homes and businesses in The Green
Frames and walls do not move together. Heat and cold make frames grow and shrink against brick or render that hardly moves. So the sealant has to stretch and recover, which is why we use a low-modulus product. Common call-outs are for water coming in at the bottom corners of a door and rushed sealant from a window installation, across uPVC windows, timber windows & doors and composite doors.
Somewhere as small as The Green, older homes often have timber frames set in stone or brickwork. Older buildings like these do not always suit modern silicone, so the sealant has to be chosen to suit the building.
Our work is backed for twelve months.

DIY versus a professional finish
If you’re set on DIY, put the effort into preparation: remove every trace of old sealant, clean and dry the joint, and follow the product’s cure time. If it does not work out, we can still put it right.
A DIY attempt doesn’t rule out a professional job. We remove it and do the joint properly.
Work for landlords, hotels and businesses
Mouldy or split sealant often shows up at the end of a tenancy, and it’s easy to sort out between tenants. We can quote for more than one property at once.
If you manage several properties in or around The Green, several properties can go on one quote. Send us the addresses and the work at each, and pictures by email help.
What affects the quote in The Green
The price is agreed before any work begins. It takes into account:
- How many areas need sealing
- Any mould that needs treating
- Any working-time requirements on site
- The type of sealant required
The cost reflects the work involved, not a rough estimate. That is why we ask about the job first and agree the price before starting.
What we need to know
When you call or email, these details help:
- The address or postcode of the job
- Any access issues, like height or stairs
- Photos by email, if that is easy
- The type of property

Window mastic in The Green: local notes
The South East is one of the drier parts of the UK, yet outdoor joints still have to be sealed dry, so jobs are booked with the weather in mind.
If you let a flat or house near Cressing station, cracked frame mastic tends to show up as a draught or damp complaint, so it’s worth checking between lets. For an older house near a landmark such as St Barnabas, the joint between an old wall and a newer frame is generally the first place rain gets in. Schools such as Cressing Primary School are buildings too, and the mastic around its windows and doors needs looking after like any other building’s.
The Green is about 3 miles south of Braintree, in Essex. From the centre of The Green to the outskirts, window mastic is available for homes and businesses alike. We cover 644 towns and villages across Essex, from the larger towns to small villages. Our Chelmsford page covers work nearby (8 miles or so).
We cover every part of CM8 for window mastic. Other places close to The Green include Black Notley (1 mile north-west), Tye Green (1 mile north-east), Hawbush Green (1 mile north-east), White Notley (1 mile south-east) and Long Green (1 mile north-east). Larger places within reach include Colchester (14 miles east), Chelmsford (8 miles south-west), Braintree (3 miles north), Maldon (9 miles south-east), Witham (4 miles south-east) and Camulodunum (13 miles east).
What’s near The Green
In The Green, that means homes and buildings near Braintree Sixth Form and The Plough pub, among other places. For rail, the closest station is Cressing station, about 0.5 miles north-east of the centre. Nearby you will also find William Julien Courtauld Hospital (2.4 miles north-west) and Cressing Temple (1.7 miles east). For a walk, there’s Sandylay and Moat Woods.
How to look after the new joints
Simple care keeps the joints in good condition. Our advice:
- Paint up to the joint, not over it
- Don’t use solvent cleaners on the joint
- Air rooms to keep condensation down around windows
- Make sure the drainage slots are not blocked
On timber frames, keep the paintwork in good order, since wood that gets wet swells and shrinks more. Keep paint off the silicone itself.
Water trapped behind a failed joint can start rot in timber frames and sills. Once wood has rotted, it needs repair before it can be sealed, so early resealing is worth it.
Honest limits
New sealant can’t fix everything, and we’ll tell you before we start. It won’t solve:
- A frame that has rotted at the joint
- Condensation trapped between the panes
- Worn gaskets, brush seals or a door that has dropped
If in doubt, ring 0345 464 0079 or email us and we’ll say what we think before booking.

Different surfaces, different methods
Aluminium frames
Aluminium needs a sealant that bonds to coated metal, and acetoxy silicones aren’t used, as they can attack some metals. We use a neutral-cure product.
Timber windows & doors
On period timber windows, traditional sand mastic is sometimes the better choice. We can talk through the options.
What we do, step by step
Our applicators work methodically: protection first, then preparation, sealing and a tidy-up. Typically it takes a morning for a couple of windows and a door and we leave things clean and tidy. Somewhere as small as The Green, access is often the only tricky part. For outside work, also let us know about exposed walls and any outbuildings involved.
- First we look at every frame and agree the list.
- The old mastic is cut out and the surfaces cleaned back.
- We fit backing rod in deep gaps so the sealant is the right depth.
- New exterior sealant goes on in a matching colour and is tooled smooth.
- Finally we tidy up and check each joint.
How to prepare
- Clear items away from the joints we are working on
- Tell us about any water getting in
- Plan for the work area to be out of bounds to pets and children
