External mastic for homes and businesses in Tarland
For buildings in Tarland, we reseal external joints of all kinds, from brick movement joints to cladding panels. Every joint gets the same careful preparation: clean joint faces and the right depth. We work on concrete & block, joints between brick and frames and brickwork movement joints, and people most often call us about leaking joints around cladding and façade panels and cracked joints where brick meets render or frames.
Outside joints can only be sealed when they’re dry, so work in Tarland depends on the weather, and longer journeys are planned in advance. Tell us how to reach each wall, gutter and roofline.
You’re covered for a year from the day we finish. If anything isn’t right with it, send an email to info@mrmastic.co.uk.

Tarland: your questions answered
Is Tarland in your area for external mastic?
Yes. Our work covers the whole of Scotland, and Tarland is part of that. Just email us at info@mrmastic.co.uk with a few details of the job, and we will give you a clear price.
Is there a guarantee on external mastic in Tarland?
Every job comes with our 12-month guarantee, wherever it is. We’re fully insured, and an ARBOMaster approved applicator.
When is the sealant fully cured?
Most sealants are touch-dry well before they’re fully cured. We will give you the cure time for the product we used.
Can I add another job to the visit?
Yes, we can. More than one area can go on one quote.
Can landlords and businesses book you?
Yes, often. Several properties can go on one quote.
Where do you work from?
We are a Crawley-based firm, with over 20 years’ experience. We work across South East England, London and Scotland.
Can tenants book the work?
Yes. Ask your landlord first, and we can send them the quote if that helps.
How long will you be here?
Typically it takes anything from a few hours to several days, depending on the building. Larger jobs naturally take longer.

Outside joints around Tarland
Plenty of Scottish homes have harled walls, and joints where harling meets other materials need a sealant that can grip and flex. Under the Repairing Standard, private landlords in Scotland have to keep homes wind and watertight, and sound outside sealant is part of that.
For an older house near a landmark such as Tarland Old Parish Church, the joints between older walls, newer extensions and the roofline need a sealant that can move.

The process
Once we are on site, we check the joints match what you told us. If anything is different, we explain it before carrying on. After that, the work takes a few hours to a few days, depending on the length of joint and the access. In smaller Scottish places, parking is generally less of an issue than access and distance. Let us know how to find you and how to reach the joints.
- First, the joints are inspected and the access agreed.
- Every bit of old sealant and any mortar or debris is cut out.
- Joint faces are cleaned back and primed if the sealant needs it.
- Backing rod sized to the joint goes in to set the depth.
- The exterior sealant is applied, tooled and checked along its length.
Getting ready for the visit
- For indoor joints, keep the area dry beforehand if you can

Advice
Can I do it myself?
The difference is mostly in the preparation and the product. We take joints back to clean, dry surfaces, and the sealant is chosen for how the joint moves and where it is, and the work is guaranteed for a year.
Some sealant jobs are within reach of a careful DIYer, such as a straightforward joint indoors. Where it goes wrong is sealing over the old bead, working on a wet joint or overloading the gap.
When to call us in Tarland
Joints sealed without backing rod, or far too deep, rarely last. Sealant bonded to three sides has nowhere to go and rips as the joint opens.
Any of these means the joints need attention:
- Rigid filler in a joint that should flex
- Hard, crazed mastic that has stopped moving
- Cracked joints where brick meets render or frames
- Joints with sealant missing in places
Around Tarland, as everywhere, external mastic is only as good as the preparation behind it.
Comparing quotes

- How the colour is chosen
- What product goes in the joint
- Are they insured?
Why deal with it now?
Mortar or ordinary filler might look like a quick way to close an open joint, but it stops the joint moving. The movement then cracks the brickwork or render nearby. A flexible sealant over backing rod is what the joint needs. Exposed walls in smaller Scottish places take a lot of wind and rain, and once water gets behind a failed joint, damp in stone or harled walls is slow to dry out.
No two jobs are quite the same, so each one gets its own quote. The number of joints, how easy they are to reach and the sealant needed all make a difference, and we’ll explain the quote if you ask.

How we quote for external mastic
There’s no set price list, because jobs vary so much. What we look at:
- The type of sealant required
- How much there is to do
- Whether old sealant or filler has to be cut out
- How easy the joints are to reach
A few things move the cost up or down: how much old sealant there is and how stubborn it is, whether mould needs treating, and whether we need extra access for height. Your quote takes all of that into account.
Helping us quote
A few details help us give you an accurate quote. When you ask for a quote, tell us:
- A few photos by email, if you can
- How many joints, rooms or windows are involved
- Where the job is, and your postcode
- The type of property
It all starts with a short chat. Describe the problem, the location and the size of the job, and we’ll explain how we’d tackle it. Whenever you’re ready, email us at info@mrmastic.co.uk.
Honest limits
It helps to know what we cannot do:
- Structural movement, which needs a surveyor or engineer
- Adding movement joints to masonry that has none
- Cracks in the bricks or render themselves, away from the joints
If in doubt, drop us a line at info@mrmastic.co.uk and we’ll say what we think.
