External mastic near Inverurie

About our external mastic in Inverurie

Failed sealant is cut out, the depth set with closed-cell backing rod, and the joint resealed with a low-modulus sealant made for outside. The colour is chosen to suit the brick or render so the line blends in. We work on brickwork movement joints, render & cladding joints and joints between brick and frames, and the jobs we see most are leaking joints around cladding and façade panels and joints where the bead has come unstuck.

Harled walls are common in Scottish towns like Inverurie, and the joints where harling meets windows, doors and pipes need a sealant that grips and flexes. Gutters and fascias here take plenty of Scottish weather too.

We stand behind the work with a one-year guarantee.

What sealant work can’t fix

In fairness, some problems need a different trade:

  • Cracked brickwork or render that needs a builder or plasterer
  • Rising or penetrating damp from elsewhere in the wall
  • Adding movement joints to masonry that has none

Not sure which it is? You can send an email to info@mrmastic.co.uk and we’ll tell you honestly.

Surfaces we seal

  • Joints between brick and frames
  • Concrete & block
  • Façade panels
  • Copings & trims
  • Render & cladding joints
  • Brickwork movement joints

Why act early in Inverurie

It often makes sense to reseal all the failing joints on an elevation together. Joints of the same age tend to fail together. In Inverurie, wind and rain soon get through failed outside joints. Indoors, failed sealant lets water into floors and ceilings.

No two jobs are quite the same, so we quote each one individually. Size, access and the product the joint needs all play a part, and we’ll explain the quote if you ask.

Why choose Mr Mastic in Inverurie

  • Tidy, careful work
  • Any old sealant cut out fully, not covered over
  • Full insurance on every job
  • Colour picked to suit the job

Inverurie questions

What guarantee comes with external mastic in Inverurie?

Every job comes with our one-year guarantee, wherever it is. We’re fully insured, and an ARBOMaster approved applicator.

I let a flat near Inverurie station. Can you help?

Yes. We work for letting agents and landlords as well as homeowners, and several properties can be quoted together. You can email us at info@mrmastic.co.uk with the details for a clear quote.

Can you quote for more than one area?

Yes, and it often makes sense. Combining jobs makes good use of the visit, so mention them when you ask for a quote.

What information do you need?

Only a few details: the address or postcode, what’s wrong and any access issues. Then send an email to info@mrmastic.co.uk.

Do you use backing rod?

The foam is closed-cell backing rod. It keeps the sealant at the right depth and bonded to the sides only.

Are you fully insured?

Yes. Mr Mastic is fully insured, and we’ve been doing sealant work for more than 20 years.

Where are you based?

We are based in Crawley, and we work across South East England, London and Scotland.

Is it OK to fill a movement joint with cement?

No. Rigid materials cannot move with the wall and the joint fails. Where a joint has been mortared, it can often be raked out and sealed properly.

Looking after it afterwards

So the new joints stay in good condition:

  • Show decorators and builders where the movement joints are
  • Walk round the building once a year and look at the joints
  • Ask before painting over external sealant
  • Deal with leaking gutters that soak the joints below

If you have more work done on the wall, such as new render, cladding or an opening, show the contractor the movement joints. They should be kept open and resealed, not filled.

An open movement joint lets rain into the wall every time it pours. That can lead to damp patches, staining and frost damage, all bigger jobs than a reseal.

How the visit works

Before we leave, we go over the finished joints with you and tell you how long to leave it. The work normally takes anything from a few hours to several days, depending on the building, depending on how much there is to do. In a Scottish town like Inverurie, parking is generally straightforward, though older centres can be tighter. For flats, mention the shared stair or door entry system.

  1. Each joint is checked and the colour of the new sealant agreed.
  2. Failed sealant is removed back to clean, sound faces.
  3. Backing rod goes in so the sealant can stretch between the two faces.
  4. We prime the faces where required.
  5. A low-modulus exterior sealant is gunned in and tooled to a neat finish.

Getting ready for the visit

  • Tell us about any water getting in
  • Keep children and pets away from the work area
  • For business premises, tell us about site rules or sign-in

Related advice

Inverurie buildings and the weather

Harled (roughcast) walls are common in Scotland, and joints where harling meets other materials need a sealant that can grip and flex. Private landlords in Scotland must meet the Repairing Standard, which includes keeping a home wind and watertight, and sound outside sealant is part of that.

For site and facilities teams at buildings such as Inverurie Academy, its movement joints, gutters and trims need looking after like any other building’s. Rented homes near Inverurie station change hands often, and failed wall and movement joints let damp in, so they’re worth checking between tenancies. Homes close to West Parish Church include some older properties, and an extension built onto an older house moves differently, and the joint between them takes the strain.

Quotes for external mastic in Inverurie

We quote each job individually. This is what makes a difference:

  • Access and height
  • How many rooms, windows or areas are involved
  • Any mould that needs treating
  • Whether old sealant or filler has to be cut out

The cost depends on the amount of work, how hard the old material is to remove and how easy the joints are to reach. We give a clear quote before any work starts, so you know where you stand.

Helping us quote

A few details help us give you an accurate quote. When you ask for a quote, tell us:

  • Whether it’s a home or a business
  • If someone has resealed it before
  • Pictures of the joints, sent by email
  • What the problem is, such as mould, gaps, leaks or cracking

The more we know about the job, the more useful the quote. Tell us where the job is, what’s wrong and how much there is, and email photos if that is easy.

How the job changes by surface

Cladding and façade panels

Panel systems often rely on sealant between and around the panels. We reseal them with a sealant suited to the panel material.

Concrete and blockwork

The face of concrete or block is often dusty, so cleaning and priming matter. We prime where the sealant needs it before sealing.

Work for landlords, hotels and businesses

Landlords and agents in Inverurie can book us as well as homeowners. Resealing between tenancies is a simple way to keep a property in good order.

If you manage several properties in or around Inverurie, several properties can go on one quote. Send us the addresses and the work at each, and pictures by email help.
