Sealing brickwork movement joints, render, cladding and façade joints for homes and businesses in Seaview and across the Isle of Wight. ARBOMaster approved applicators, fully insured, with a 12-month guarantee.

- Sealant that has lost its bond to the brick or render
How the job changes by surface
Joints between dissimilar materials
Each side of the joint may need its own preparation. Both surfaces are cleaned and primed as the product requires.
Brickwork movement joints
Clay brickwork grows slightly over its life and moves with the weather. That movement goes into the joint, so its sealant has to stay flexible.
External mastic in Seaview, done properly
Joints in render and cladding are easy to overlook until a damp patch appears. We look over the joints, agree the ones to renew and reseal with a flexible, weatherproof product in a matching colour. We are often asked to deal with weeds or debris growing in open joints and movement joints filled with mortar instead of sealant, on concrete & block, render & cladding joints and copings & trims.
Outside joints can only be sealed when they’re dry, so work in Seaview is booked around the forecast. Let us know about access to every wall, plus any garages or outbuildings.
You are covered for a year from the day we finish. If anything isn’t right with it, phone 0345 464 0079 or email us.

Looking after it afterwards
After the cure time, these simple habits help:
- Check external joints each spring
- Point out the joints to other trades
- Fix overflowing gutters above sealed joints
- Clear growth from the base of walls and joints
Keep pressure washers away from the sealant. High-pressure water can lift the edges.
If you can see gaps, plants or bare sections in a joint, have it checked. Early work is quicker and leaves a better finish.
Outside joints around Seaview
Seaview is within about 1 mile of the coast, where wind-driven rain is a fact of life and, nearer the shore, so is salt air. That’s hard on movement joints and outside wall joints, especially on the side facing the sea. The South East is one of the drier parts of the UK, yet outdoor joints still have to be sealed dry, so jobs are booked with the weather in mind.
In the older streets around St. Peter's Church, an extension built onto an older house moves differently, and the joint between them takes the strain. If you let a flat or house near Smallbrook Junction station, outside joints that have cracked can let damp into a rental, so check them between lets.
Seaview is about 2 miles east of Ryde, in the Isle of Wight. Whether you are in the middle of Seaview or further out, external mastic is available for homes and businesses alike, from flats and houses to offices and hotels. Our the Isle of Wight coverage runs to 125 places, Seaview among them. There’s also a page for Portsmouth, about 6 miles away.
All of PO34 is covered for external mastic, from the main roads to the quietest streets. You’ll find streets such as High Street, Madeira Road and Church Street, and we cover them all. Neighbouring places we cover for external mastic include Nettlestone (1 mile south), Spring Vale (1 mile north-west), Pondwell (1 mile west), Puckpool (1 mile west) and Appley (2 miles west). We also work in nearby towns such as Newport (8 miles west), Cowes (9 miles west), Sandown (5 miles south-west), Shanklin (7 miles south-west), Ventnor (10 miles south-west) and East Cowes (8 miles west). Remote and island addresses need a little more planning, so tell us where you are when you ask for a quote.
Local landmarks in Seaview
We work in homes and buildings around The Boat House, among other places. The nearest railway station is Smallbrook Junction station, roughly 2 miles west of the centre. Well-known places in the area include Southsea Castle (4.1 miles north) and Gosport War Memorial Hospital (5.3 miles north). Open spaces near Seaview include Brading Down and Alan Hersey Nature Reserve.
When it isn’t the sealant
We won’t take on work that won’t last, so these are the limits:
- Cracking across the wall rather than at a joint
- Structural movement, which needs a surveyor or engineer
- Failed render or damaged cladding panels
If in doubt, phone 0345 464 0079 or email us and we’ll say what we think before you book.

How it works
The work is kept neat and contained to the area we’re working on. The job normally takes a few hours to a few days, depending on the length of joint and the access, and we tell you how long to leave it before we go. In a small place like Seaview, access is normally the main thing to plan. If the job is outside, mention outbuildings, exposed walls and how to reach them.
- We start by checking each joint, agreeing the ones to redo and how we’ll reach them.
- Old sealant and any debris are cut and raked out.
- We clean both faces of the joint and prime them where the product calls for it.
- Closed-cell backing rod is fitted to set the depth and stop three-sided bonding.
- The new sealant, chosen to suit the brick or render, is applied and tooled to a neat finish.
Getting ready for the visit
- Tell us about any previous sealing or DIY attempts
- Where the joints are inside, avoid wetting them before we arrive
- Tell us about access, such as stairs, a lift or high-level joints
How to get a quote
The more we know about the job, the more useful the quote. Let us know the location, the problem and roughly how many joints, and email photos if that’s easy.

Leave it or put it right?
Resealing a run of joints in one go is usually better than patching one at a time. Joints of the same age tend to fail together, and access only has to be arranged once. Older cottages and farmhouses around Seaview can have timber floors and frames, and water through a failed joint can rot timber if it’s left.
Rather than a set price list, we price the job in front of us: how many joints, what’s in them now and how we reach them. The price is agreed before we begin.

DIY sealant or a professional job?
The biggest DIY mistake is sealing over old sealant. Silicone does not stick to old silicone, so it peels away and traps moisture behind it. All the old material has to come out first.
If you are set on DIY, put the effort into preparation: remove every trace of old sealant, clean and dry the joint, and follow the product’s cure time. If it doesn’t work out, we can still put it right.
When to call us in Seaview
Sometimes a movement joint was filled with mortar or a rigid filler, often by someone who didn’t know what it was for. The joint can’t move, so the wall cracks somewhere else instead.
These are the problems we are asked about most:
- Failed sealant between panels on a façade
- Hard, crazed mastic that has stopped moving
- Joints where the bead has come unstuck
- Rain getting behind render or cladding at a joint
If you look after a building such as Nettlestone Primary School, movement joints, cladding joints and gutters on larger buildings need the same care as a house’s.

Your questions about external mastic in Seaview
Can you help a landlord with a rental near Smallbrook Junction station?
Yes, we work for landlords and agents. Just phone 0345 464 0079 or drop us an email and tell us about the property, and we will give you a clear price.
Will you come out to Seaview?
Yes, smaller places are covered as well as towns. Our work covers London and the South East. Just mention lanes, gates or anything else about the route when you book.
When is the sealant fully cured?
It depends on the product and the temperature. Before we leave, we will tell you the cure time.
Can you seal over the old sealant?
No, and we never do. It can look neat for a few weeks, but the new layer lifts away from the old one. The old sealant has to come out completely.
Can you quote for more than one area?
Yes, and it often makes sense. Combining jobs makes good use of the visit, so mention them when you ask for a quote.
What’s an expansion joint in brickwork?
Brickwork, render and cladding all move a little, and planned joints take up that movement. The gap is sealed with a flexible sealant over backing rod.
Is it messy?
No. We protect the surfaces around the joints, and we tidy up before we go.
What should I tell you?
Just the basics: where it is, what you’ve noticed and how we reach it. After that, simply call 0345 464 0079 or drop us an email.
