Different surfaces, different methods
Kitchen worktops & upstands
Worktop joints get wet and wiped every day. We seal them in a colour that suits the worktop.
Shower trays & enclosures
Water often gets past the wall profile of a shower enclosure. We reseal it along with the base of the enclosure, sealing the side the enclosure’s instructions call for.
How we handle bathroom resealing in Thrumster
A fresh bead of silicone changes how a bathroom looks more than most people expect. Black, patchy sealant makes clean tiles look tired, and a neat new joint puts that right in a short visit. Just as important, it closes the gaps water would otherwise get through. Common call-outs are for splits where the tray meets the wall and a messy, uneven bead from a previous reseal, across baths, wet rooms and basins & vanity units.
A bathroom in a place like Thrumster gets the same daily wear as one in a city flat. Generally soft Scottish water means less limescale, but steam still lets mould into sealant and grout.
The work is covered for a year after we finish. If anything isn’t right with it, email us at info@mrmastic.co.uk.

When to call us in Thrumster
Sealant laid on a damp, dusty or greasy joint never bonds properly. Soap residue, oils and leftover silicone film all get in the way, so a rushed job can start to lift early.
Most people get in touch when they notice one of these:
- Leaks into the floor or ceiling below
- Sealant that has split, shrunk or peeled away
- Gaps where the bath or tray has moved
- A messy, uneven bead from a previous reseal
In and around Thrumster, as anywhere, good bathroom resealing starts with a clean, dry, properly prepared joint.

Questions from Thrumster
Is Thrumster within the area you cover?
Yes, smaller places are covered as well as towns. We work across all of Scotland. Just mention lanes, gates or anything else about the route when you book.
Do you work for landlords with property near Wick station?
Yes, landlords and agents are among the people we work for, and several properties can be quoted together. Just email us at info@mrmastic.co.uk with the address and what needs doing, and we’ll send you a clear quote.
How much does bathroom resealing cost in Thrumster?
The cost depends on the size of the job, access and how much old sealant has to come out. Call for a quick quote and we will talk you through it.
Does the resealing come with a guarantee?
Yes. We give a 12-month guarantee on every job, and we’re ARBOMaster approved applicators.
Do you remove the old sealant?
Yes. Sealing over old sealant is the main reason resealing fails early, so we never do it.
Will you leave a mess?
Not at all. We work neatly, protect the area around the joints and tidy up afterwards.
How long does a bath or shower reseal take?
It depends on how many joints there are and how much old sealant has to come out. For most single baths or showers, allow a couple of hours.
What sealant do you use?
Quality sealants from brands including Arbo and Everbuild, picked for each joint. We explain the product when we quote.
What happens on the day
All our tools and materials come with us in the van, so you don’t need to buy or prepare anything. After a quick look at the joints together, we protect the area and start. Most jobs take around two hours for one bath or shower, longer for a whole bathroom. Outside jobs in Thrumster need a dry day, because sealant will not bond to a wet joint, so external jobs may need to move if the day turns wet. Work indoors isn’t affected.
- First the area is protected and every bit of old sealant removed, including the film left on the tiles.
- We clean and degrease the joint and treat any mould.
- The joint is left to dry, and baths are filled with water first.
- We apply anti-fungal sanitary silicone in one even bead and tool it neatly.
- Finally we tidy up and explain the cure time before we leave.
How to prepare
- Where the joints are inside, avoid wetting them before we arrive
- Tell us about any previous sealing or DIY attempts
- Tell us about access, such as stairs, a lift or high-level joints

Quotes for bathroom resealing in Thrumster
Your quote is based on your job. We look at:
- How much old sealant there is and how hard it is to remove
- The number and length of the joints
- The product the joint needs
- Access and height
The cost reflects the work involved, not guesswork. That’s why we ask a few questions first and agree the price before starting.
What we need to know
When you call or email, it’s useful to know:
- The problem you’ve noticed
- Photos by email, if that’s easy
- How we’d reach the joints
- The rough size of the job
Quotes start with a quick conversation. Tell us what’s wrong, where it is and how much there is. When it suits you, send an email to info@mrmastic.co.uk.
Why act early in Thrumster
A failed joint gets more costly to put right the longer it’s left. Once water is behind the bath, it can reach floorboards, panels and the ceiling underneath, and that’s a far bigger job than a reseal. In a place like Thrumster, small leaks are easy to put off, but water through a failed joint keeps working away until it’s fixed.
A failed joint rarely gets cheaper to fix by waiting. If you’re unsure, email us at info@mrmastic.co.uk and we’ll give you an honest view and a quote.
Why us?
- We agree the colour with you first
- Experience in homes, commercial sites and hotels

Should I try it myself first?
Sealing over old silicone is the commonest DIY error. New silicone will not bond to old, so it peels away and traps moisture behind it. Everything old must be removed first.
Some sealant jobs are within reach of a careful DIYer, like a short, easy-to-reach joint indoors. Where it goes wrong is sealing over the old bead, working on a wet joint or overloading the gap.
What sealant work can’t fix
Before you book, it’s worth knowing the limits:
- A tray or bath that is cracked through
- Movement from a bath with loose feet or no proper support
- Tiles that have come away from the wall
Not sure which it is? You can send an email to info@mrmastic.co.uk and we will tell you honestly before you book.
What we seal

- Sinks & splashbacks
- Wet rooms
- Kitchen worktops & upstands

Thrumster homes and their sealant
Thrumster is within about 1 mile of the coast. Coastal homes, holiday lets and guest houses can see heavy bathroom use in busy months, which wears sealant and grout out faster than in a quiet home. Scotland’s water is generally soft, so sealant and grout see less limescale than in much of England. Mould is another matter: a bathroom that stays damp still turns sealant and grout black.
If you let a flat or house near Wick station, fresh sealant around the bath, shower and sink between tenancies helps a property present well and keeps leaks at bay.
