About our bathroom resealing in River

Before a bath is sealed, it’s filled with water. The weight settles the bath to its lowest point, so the bead isn’t stretched the first time someone gets in. Quick jobs often leave it out, and it makes a real difference. We work on sinks & splashbacks, basins & vanity units and baths, and the jobs we see most are black mould in the silicone that won’t clean off and leaking joints on a shower screen.

Being in a small place like River makes no difference to the job itself: the journey and access are simply agreed in advance. In the bathroom or kitchen, the work is the same as in any town.

All of our work is guaranteed for twelve months.

Why it’s worth doing now in River

Sorting it now is quick: it takes a couple of hours for a single bath or shower. Wait for a leak and you may be looking at panels off, drying out and redecorating too. Older cottages and farmhouses around River can have timber floors and frames, and water through a failed joint can rot timber if it’s left.

Rather than a set price list, we look at what your job involves: the amount of work, the old material and the access. You will know the price before we begin.

How the visit works

There’s no need to move everything out before we come, only the area right around the joints. We protect the rest, and the job takes a couple of hours for one bath or shower, or most of a day for a full bathroom and kitchen in most cases. Somewhere like River needs a little journey planning: tell us about narrow lanes, gates, long drives and where we can park. We bring what the job needs, so it can be finished in one trip where possible.

  1. We look at every joint first and check for movement or leaks.
  2. Every trace of the old bead is removed, including the thin smear on the tiles.
  3. The joint is cleaned, degreased and treated for mould.
  4. With the joint dry, and any bath loaded with water, a single bead of anti-fungal silicone is applied.
  5. We tool the bead to a neat finish and give you the cure time, normally around 24 hours.

Before we arrive

  • Mention any leaks or damp you’ve noticed
  • Tell us about any previous sealing or DIY attempts
  • Clear the area around the work

What we’re called out for in River

Baths and trays move. An acrylic bath flexes under load, and a tray that is not fully bedded can rock. That movement works at the bead until it splits or peels away.

The problems people normally mention when they call are:

  • A joint torn by a bath that flexes
  • A bead that has pulled away from the tiles
  • Mouldy sealant that has gone black
  • A messy, uneven bead from a previous reseal

Around River, as everywhere, bathroom resealing is only as good as the preparation behind it.

Your questions about bathroom resealing in River

Do you cover smaller places like River?

Yes. River is within the area we cover, which takes in towns, villages and rural addresses. Our work covers London and the South East. Just mention lanes, gates or anything else about the route when you book.

Is bathroom resealing in River guaranteed?

All our work, in River and everywhere else, comes with a 12-month guarantee. We’re also fully insured and ARBOMaster approved.

What should I tell you?

Just the basics: where it is, what you’ve noticed and how we reach it. Then call 0345 464 0079 or send us an email.

How long does a bath or shower reseal take?

It depends on how many joints there are and how much old sealant has to come out. For most single baths or showers, allow a couple of hours.

Do I have to be there?

It depends on the job. For work indoors, someone needs to let us in, and for outside work we will agree access with you when we book.

Can mouldy silicone be sorted out?

Yes, we replace the mouldy bead. Sprays can fade the marks, but cutting it out and resealing is what lasts. Good ventilation helps keep it away.

I rent my home. Can I book you?

Of course. Ask your landlord first, and we can send them the quote if that helps.

Is it OK to put new sealant on top of the old bead?

No, never. A bead laid over old silicone soon starts to come away. Every trace of the old bead is removed first.

Bathrooms and kitchens in River

Most of the South East has hard water, which leaves limescale on sealant, grout and fittings.

In the older streets around The Parish Church of St Peter, older homes can move a little, which is hard on rigid grout and tired sealant.

River is about 12 miles east of Petersfield, in West Sussex. Jobs in River get the same care as everywhere else we work: old sealant removed completely, careful preparation and a 12-month guarantee. Across West Sussex, we cover 371 places, River among them. Crawley is on our list too, around 22 miles away.

Different surfaces, different methods

Shower trays & enclosures

There are usually two jobs in a shower: the tray-to-wall joint and the enclosure joints. Both get soaked every time the shower runs, so both are resealed with anti-fungal sanitary silicone.

Kitchen worktops & upstands

Kitchen joints need more degreasing than bathroom ones, because cooking grease stops sealant bonding. Proper degreasing is what helps the new joint last.

What sealant work can’t fix

In fairness, some problems need a different trade:

  • A bath or tray that moves because it isn’t properly supported
  • Leaks from a shower valve, waste or pipework (a plumber’s job)
  • Cracks in the tray itself rather than the joint

If you’re not sure, just ring 0345 464 0079 or send us an email and we will give you a straight answer before you book.

What affects the quote in River

Jobs vary more than people expect. The main factors:

  • Whether the work is at height
  • Mould in or behind the old joints
  • The number and length of the joints
  • How many rooms, windows or areas are involved

Combining jobs into one visit is usually more efficient than separate visits. You will get one clear quote for the whole job.

Helping us quote

Photos help, but a description is a good start. Please mention:

  • Whether it has been sealed before
  • Whether it’s a home or a business
  • Where the property is
  • What the problem is, such as mould, gaps, leaks or cracking

We quote each job on its own, so the first step is telling us about yours. Simply call 0345 464 0079 or drop us an email and describe the job.
