Bathroom resealing in Hurtmore

Homes in Hurtmore have the same weak spots as anywhere else: bath edges, tray joints, basin backs and kitchen upstands. Every joint is cut out, cleaned and left dry before it’s resealed. Typical jobs include gaps where the bath or tray has moved and new sealant laid over old sealant that is now lifting, across basins & vanity units, wet rooms and baths.

For a small place like Hurtmore, bathroom resealing is planned like any other job: it just means planning the journey and access beforehand. In the bathroom or kitchen, the work is the same as in any town.

You get a one-year guarantee, the same in Hurtmore as everywhere else we work.

Why deal with it now?

The difference in a professional reseal is mostly what you do not see: removing all the old sealant, degreasing the joint, treating mould and drying it properly. Skip those steps and even the best silicone fails early. Where a wall is exposed, as many are in small places like Hurtmore, wind-driven rain gets into any failed joint, and damp in older walls is slow to dry out.

No two jobs are quite the same, so we quote each one individually. Size, access and the product the joint needs all play a part.

What you get with us

  • Over 20 years’ experience
  • White, clear, grey or another colour, product permitting
  • We agree the colour with you first
  • Anti-fungal silicone where joints get wet

Looking after it afterwards

How long the joints last depends on use and care. Here’s what we suggest:

  • Move toiletries away from the joint
  • Wipe up water along the back of the worktop
  • Stick to a soft cloth and a mild cleaner
  • Keep the fan on for a while after bathing

Wipe up standing water along the worktop joint and keep hot pans off the bead. A dry joint lasts longer.

Mould that starts as a few spots spreads through the bead. When it has grown right through, it rarely cleans out. Replacing the sealant early keeps the job small.

What affects the quote in Hurtmore

We quote each job individually. These are the things that affect it:

  • How much there is to do
  • Whether old sealant or filler has to be cut out
  • The type of sealant required
  • Access and height

What it costs depends on the size of the job, how much old material has to come out and how easy the joints are to reach. We give a clear quote before we start.

What to tell us for a quote

Photos by email are helpful but not essential. Try to tell us:

  • If it’s domestic, commercial or a hotel
  • Pictures of the joints, sent by email
  • The problem you’ve noticed
  • The rough size of the job

Different surfaces, different methods

Sinks & splashbacks

Around the sink, we use a product suited to kitchens, including a food-safe sealant where that’s needed. The bead is finished smooth so it wipes clean.

Basins & vanity units

Basin joints are short and close to eye level: the bead is right in front of you, so it’s tooled cleanly and evenly, in white, clear or a colour to suit.

Should I try it myself first?

A careful DIYer can reseal a simple joint, such as a straightforward joint indoors. Where it goes wrong is sealing over the old bead, working on a wet joint or overloading the gap.

If you are set on DIY, put the effort into preparation: remove every trace of old sealant, clean and dry the joint, and follow the product’s cure time. If it doesn’t work out, we can still put it right.

When something else is needed

Honest advice matters more to us than a booking, so here’s what sealant can’t fix:

  • Cracks in the tray itself rather than the joint
  • Loose or hollow tiles, or failed tanking behind them
  • Movement from a bath with loose feet or no proper support

If you’re not sure, just ring 0345 464 0079 or email us and we will give you a straight answer.

What we seal

  • Shower trays & enclosures
  • Sinks & splashbacks
  • Kitchen worktops & upstands
  • Wet rooms
  • Basins & vanity units
  • Baths

How it works

When we get to you, we check the joints match what you told us. If we find something unexpected, we talk it through with you first. After that, the work takes two to three hours for a typical bath, depending on how much old sealant there is. In a small place like Hurtmore, access is generally the main thing to plan. If the job is outside, mention outbuildings, exposed walls and how to reach them.

  1. We look at every joint first and check for movement or leaks.
  2. The old silicone is cut out completely, along with the film it leaves on the tiles.
  3. Joints are degreased and any mould is treated.
  4. With the joint dry, and any bath loaded with water, a single bead of anti-fungal silicone is applied.
  5. The bead is tooled smooth and you are told the cure time, usually around 24 hours.

Before we arrive

  • On commercial sites, let us know about site rules
  • Where the joints are inside, avoid wetting them before we arrive
  • Let us know if you’ve seen damp or leaks

Advice

Your questions about bathroom resealing in Hurtmore

Will you come out to Hurtmore?

Yes, smaller places are covered as well as towns. We work across London and the South East. Just mention lanes, gates or anything else about the route when you book.

Do you work for hotels and guest houses in Hurtmore?

Yes, hospitality work, including hotels, is part of what we do. Work can be planned room by room, and out-of-hours working can be arranged.

When can I use the bath or shower again?

Usually after around 24 hours. We will tell you the cure time for the product we used.

Will you leave a mess?

No. We protect the surfaces around the joints, and we clear up the old sealant and our materials before we leave.

Are you an approved applicator?

Yes. We’re an ARBOMaster approved applicator, the approved applicator scheme for Arbo sealants.

Do you take out the old sealant first?

Yes, every time. New silicone doesn’t stick to old silicone, so any old material comes out before anything new goes in.

Do you guarantee your resealing?

Yes, a one-year guarantee. Good ventilation and gentle cleaning help it last.

Where are you based?

We are a Crawley-based firm. Our area covers South East England, London and Scotland.

Bathroom resealing in Hurtmore: local notes

Most of the South East has hard water, which leaves limescale on sealant, grout and fittings, and it has to be cleaned off before new sealant goes in. There are hotels and other places to stay in and around Hurtmore. As well as homes, we work in hotel bathrooms, where resealing and regrouting can be done room by room.

Homes close to Church of St Nicholas include some older properties, and timber floors under older bathrooms flex, so joints need a sealant that moves with them. For landlords with property near Godalming station, mouldy sealant is one of the first things a new tenant notices, so it’s worth renewing between lets. Schools such as Charterhouse School are buildings too, and washroom and kitchen sealant there needs the same care as at home, and schools and businesses are part of our work as well as homes.
