Trusted bathroom resealing in Puttenham

The process

The work is kept neat and contained to the joints we are treating. The job normally takes a couple of hours for one bath or shower, or most of a day for a full bathroom and kitchen, and we tell you how long to leave it before we go. Somewhere as small as Puttenham, access is often the only tricky part. If the job is outside, mention outbuildings, exposed walls and how to reach them.

  1. We look at every joint first and check for movement or leaks.
  2. Every trace of the old bead is removed, including the thin smear on the tiles.
  3. Joints are degreased and any mould is treated.
  4. With the joint dry, and any bath loaded with water, a single bead of anti-fungal silicone is applied.
  5. The bead is tooled smooth and you’re told the cure time, usually around 24 hours.

How to prepare

  • Let us know about parking restrictions
  • Where the joints are inside, avoid wetting them before we arrive
  • Tell us about access, such as stairs, a lift or high-level joints

Bathroom resealing in Puttenham

We fill the bath before sealing it. The weight settles the bath to its lowest point, so the new joint isn’t pulled apart the first time it’s used. It’s a small step that rushed reseals tend to skip. We work on shower trays & enclosures, basins & vanity units and wet rooms, and the jobs we see most are shrunken sealant along the back of a worktop and mouldy sealant that has gone black.

For a small place like Puttenham, bathroom resealing is planned like any other job: it just means planning the journey and access beforehand. Once we’re there, the bathroom or kitchen gets the same care as anywhere else.

Your job is guaranteed for a year, as with all our work.

Keeping the joints in good condition

So the new joints stay in good condition:

  • Open a window or run the fan so the room dries
  • Dry the bead with a towel now and then
  • Never pick at the silicone with a blade
  • Wipe up water along the back of the worktop

Wipe up standing water along the worktop joint and keep hot pans off the bead. The drier the joint stays, the longer it lasts.

Worktop joints fail quietly. Splashes run behind the back edge and soak into the worktop, and the board underneath can swell. Resealing before that happens protects the worktop.

When something else is needed

We will always be straight with you, so here’s what sealant can’t fix:

  • Damage behind the tiles that needs a tiler
  • Water coming from the plumbing rather than the joint
  • A tray that rocks until it’s re-bedded

If in doubt, ring 0345 464 0079 or email us and we will say what we think before you book.

Common problems we fix in Puttenham

Sealing over old silicone is one of the commonest mistakes we find. New silicone will not bond to old silicone, so it peels, leaks and hides mould behind it.

Signs it’s time to call us include:

  • A messy, uneven bead from a previous reseal
  • Damp behind the bath or under the tray
  • Failed sealant on the screen profile
  • Gaps where the bath or tray has moved

Schools such as Puttenham CofE Infant School are buildings too, and we reseal washrooms and kitchens in schools and businesses as well as homes.

Questions to ask before booking

  • Whether they’re fully insured
  • How hidden problems are handled
  • Who turns up on the day

Our hiring checklist

What bathroom resealing looks like in Puttenham

Most of the South East has hard water, so limescale builds up on sealant, grout and fittings.

For landlords with property near Wanborough station, fresh sealant around the bath, shower and sink between tenancies helps a property present well and keeps leaks at bay. For an older house near a landmark such as Church of St John the Baptist, timber floors under older bathrooms flex, so joints need a sealant that moves with them.

What happens if it’s left?

Tired sealant is not a reason to replace a bath or shower. A new bead often brings the whole room back, provided the bath, tray and tiles are in good order. If something else is wrong, we will tell you. Around Puttenham, older homes often have timber in their floors and frames, where water from a failed joint can cause rot if it’s left.

Homes and businesses are quoted the same way: the amount of work, how we reach it and what it needs, along with when we can work on site. Ask us for a quote and we’ll go through it with you.

What the job involves on each surface

Wet rooms

Not every wet room leak is a sealant problem. We check the joints and say so if the fault looks to be elsewhere.

Sinks & splashbacks

Around the sink, we use a product suited to kitchens, including a food-safe sealant where that’s needed. The joint is laid neatly so it’s easy to wipe.
