Can you do bathroom resealing in Hurlford?
Yes. We work across all of Scotland, and Hurlford is part of that. Just send an email to info@mrmastic.co.uk with a few details of the job, and we’ll send you a clear quote.
How long does a bath or shower reseal take?
One bath or shower is around two hours’ work, including cutting out the old sealant. A whole bathroom plus the kitchen may take most of the day.
Does the resealing come with a guarantee?
Yes, for 12 months. Good ventilation and gentle cleaning help it last.
How long before the new sealant can get wet?
Silicone is touch-dry quite quickly, but it takes longer to cure. Leave it around 24 hours before it gets wet, or as long as we advise for that product.
Should I try DIY first?
Sometimes. Preparation is everything: all the old sealant out, and a clean, dry joint. We can always put it right if it fails.
Do the sealants smell?
Some sealants have a smell while they cure. Opening a window helps.
Are you ARBOMaster approved?
Yes. We are approved under the ARBOMaster scheme, which is run for the Arbo sealant brand.
Bathroom resealing in Hurlford, done properly
The secret of a lasting bead is the preparation. The old sealant is removed to the last smear, then the joint is cleaned, degreased and treated for mould. Only once it’s dry does the new bead go on. We work on shower trays & enclosures, baths and basins & vanity units, and people most often call us about a joint torn by a bath that flexes and leaking joints on a shower screen.
A bathroom in a place like Hurlford gets the same daily wear as one in a city flat. Generally soft Scottish water means less limescale, but steam still lets mould into sealant and grout.
You’re covered for a year from the day we finish. If anything is not right with it, email us at info@mrmastic.co.uk.

Why deal with it now?
Leaving a split or mouldy bead only stores up trouble. Water that gets behind a bath soaks into the floor, the panel and sometimes the ceiling below, turning a small job into a building repair. Out of town in Scotland, exposed walls take a lot of weather, and damp in stone or harled walls takes a long time to dry once water gets behind a joint.
The cost reflects the work involved, not a rough estimate. That’s why we ask about the job first and give you a clear quote before we start.

Should I try it myself first?
If you’ve already had a go yourself, that’s fine. We cut it out and start again, so just mention it when you contact us.
The biggest DIY mistake is sealing over old sealant. Silicone doesn’t stick to old silicone, so it lifts and traps water and mould underneath. All the old material has to come out first.
How the visit works
Our applicators work methodically: protection first, then preparation, sealing and a tidy-up. For most jobs that takes two to three hours for a typical bath, depending on how much old sealant there is, and the area is left clean. In smaller Scottish places, parking is normally less of an issue than access and distance. Let us know how to find you and how to reach the joints, and the visit is planned around that.
- Protection goes down around the bath, shower or worktop.
- Old sealant is sliced away and the residue removed.
- We treat any mould and let the joint dry properly.
- Any bath is filled with water, then we lay a bead of anti-fungal silicone in white, clear or a matching colour.
- We finish the joint, clear up and tell you how long to leave it before it gets wet.
How to prepare
- For indoor joints, keep the area dry beforehand if you can
- Mention any leaks or damp you’ve noticed
- Tell us about any previous sealing or DIY attempts
How to get a quote

Keeping the joints in good condition
After the cure time, these simple habits help:
- Stick to a soft cloth and a mild cleaner
- Look for lifting corners and small gaps now and then
- Wipe up water along the back of the worktop
- Move toiletries away from the joint
Wipe up standing water along the worktop joint and keep hot pans away from the silicone. A dry joint lasts longer.
Small signs come before a leak: a corner lifting, a gap behind the bead, a dark line under the silicone or a damp patch on the ceiling below. Any of these means the joint needs attention.
For landlords and businesses
Whether it’s one flat or a portfolio, the work is the same standard: old sealant fully removed, joints prepared properly and a one-year guarantee.
We work for landlords and agents as well as householders. Sealant work between tenants keeps a property looking cared for.
How the job changes by surface
Baths
Baths move more than any other fitting, so it’s filled with water before the bead goes on. That way the joint is laid with the bath at its heaviest and is not stretched when it’s used.
Basins & vanity units
Basin joints are short and close to eye level: so we keep the line tidy and even, finished in a colour that suits the basin.
Hurlford homes and their sealant
Private landlords in Scotland must be registered and meet the Repairing Standard, which covers keeping fixtures and fittings in a reasonable state of repair. Failed sealant around a bath or shower is worth sorting between tenancies. Scotland’s water is generally soft, so sealant and grout see less limescale than in much of England. But mould still grows into sealant and grout in a room that doesn’t dry out.
Schools such as James Hamilton Academy are buildings too, and its toilets, changing areas and kitchens need their sealant renewed like any other building’s. In the older streets around Hurlford Parish Church, bathrooms in older houses have often been refitted more than once, with sealant laid over sealant.

What we’re called out for in Hurlford
Baths and trays move. Acrylic in particular gives slightly under the weight of water and a person, while a poorly supported tray can shift underfoot. That movement works at the bead until it splits or peels away.
It’s worth asking for a quote if you see:
- Leaking joints on a shower screen
- Shrunken sealant along the back of a worktop
- Lumpy, uneven sealant from a DIY attempt
- Splits where the tray meets the wall
Letting a property close to Kilmarnock station? Then fresh sealant around the bath, shower and sink between tenancies helps a property present well and keeps leaks at bay.
What your quote should include
