About our bathroom resealing in Hampton

Before a bath is sealed, it’s filled with water. The weight settles the bath to its lowest point, so the new joint isn’t pulled apart the first time it’s used. It’s a small step that rushed reseals tend to skip. We are often asked to deal with gaps between the worktop and the wall and a reseal done over the top of the old bead, across wet rooms, kitchen worktops & upstands and sinks & splashbacks.

In and around Hampton, older properties sit alongside newer ones. Older homes can move a little with the seasons, which is hard on tired sealant and rigid grout.

The work is covered for a year after we finish. If anything is not right with it, phone 0345 464 0079 or drop us an email.

What the job involves on each surface

Sinks & splashbacks

Around the sink, we use a product suited to kitchens, and a food-safe product where it’s needed. The bead is finished smooth so it wipes clean.

Baths

A bath shifts slightly every time it’s filled, so it’s filled with water before the bead goes on. That way the joint is laid with the bath at its heaviest.

Why deal with it now?

A quick bead over the top of the old one might look better for a while, but it won’t bond. Water creeps under it and mould follows, so the next person has twice as much to remove. Homes in smaller places like Hampton can face more weather, and failed outside joints let damp into walls. Inside, a split seal lets water into floors and panels just as it would anywhere.

We don’t show prices on the website, because each job is priced on what it involves. Call for a quick quote and we’ll talk you through it.

Hampton homes and their sealant

Hampton is within about 1 mile of the coast. Coastal homes, holiday lets and guest houses can see heavy bathroom use in busy months, which wears sealant and grout out faster than in a quiet home. Hampton has hotels and guest accommodation nearby. Hotel bathrooms are part of our work as well as homes, and can be done room by room.

Rented homes near Herne Bay station change hands often, and fresh sealant around the bath, shower and sink between tenancies helps a property present well and keeps leaks at bay. In the older streets around St Andrew's Church, timber floors under older bathrooms flex, so joints need a sealant that moves with them. For site and facilities teams at buildings such as Hampton Primary School, washroom and kitchen sealant there needs the same care as at home, and schools and businesses are part of our work as well as homes.

Common questions in Hampton

Do you take on hotel work around Hampton?

Yes. Hotel and guest-house work is part of what we do. Jobs can be programmed room by room, with out-of-hours working possible to arrange.

Can you help a landlord with a rental near Herne Bay station?

Yes, we work for letting agents and landlords. Just call 0345 464 0079 or email us and tell us about the property, and we’ll give you a clear price.

What do you put in the joint?

Products from Arbo and Everbuild, among others, chosen to suit the joint. We explain the product when we quote.

Can you just seal over the old silicone?

No, never. Sealing over the top looks fine for a few weeks, then lifts. Every trace of the old bead is removed first.

Do you cover Hampton?

Yes, we do. Hampton is part of the area we cover, and the service is the same as everywhere else.

How long does a bath or shower reseal take?

That depends on the number of joints and the state of the old sealant. Allow a couple of hours for a typical bath or shower.

Can you get rid of the black mould in my sealant?

Yes, by replacing the sealant. Cleaning products may lighten it, but the lasting fix is new anti-fungal silicone on a clean, treated joint. Airing the room well helps stop it returning.

What information do you need?

The location, the problem and the rough size of the job. If you can, email a few pictures.

How it works

Every visit runs the same way: we check the joints, protect the area around them, carry out the job and tidy away. It generally takes a morning or an afternoon for most single baths and showers. A visit to Hampton is planned like any other: the time, the access and where to park are agreed in advance. Outdoor jobs depend on a dry day, since sealant needs a dry surface.

  1. We look at every joint first and check for movement or leaks.
  2. The old silicone is cut out completely, along with the film it leaves on the tiles.
  3. Joints are degreased and any mould is treated.
  4. With the joint dry, and any bath loaded with water, a single bead of anti-fungal silicone is applied.
  5. The bead is tooled smooth and you’re told the cure time, generally around 24 hours.

Getting ready for the visit

How we quote for bathroom resealing

We quote each job individually. This is what makes a difference:

  • Mould in or behind the old joints
  • Working hours on commercial sites
  • The size of the job
  • Whether the work is at height

Leaving a failed joint usually makes the job bigger, not smaller, as water and mould keep getting in. If you’re not sure whether it needs doing, phone 0345 464 0079 or send us an email for an honest opinion and a quote.

What we need to know

When you call or email, these details help:

  • What’s wrong with the joints now
  • How we’d reach the joints
  • The rough size of the job
  • Any previous sealing or DIY work

Want a quote for bathroom resealing? Please call 0345 464 0079 or email us and tell us about the job. We will explain what we’d do and send you a clear quote before any work starts.

Should I try it myself first?

If you are set on DIY, put the effort into preparation: take out all the old sealant, make sure the joint is clean and dry, and give it the full cure time. If it does not work out, we can still put it right.

Overfilling a joint is a classic DIY mistake. A thick, smeared bead looks untidy and doesn’t move well, and the joint depth matters as much as the finish.

What sealant work cannot fix

To be straight with you, some problems need a different trade:

  • Water coming from the plumbing rather than the joint
  • A bath or tray that moves because it is not properly supported
  • Damage behind the tiles that needs a tiler

If in doubt, ring 0345 464 0079 or email us and we’ll say what we think before booking.
