Bathroom resealing in Gorthleck, done properly
It isn’t only bathrooms. Worktop upstands, sink edges and splashback joints all take splashes every day, and water that gets into the back edge of a worktop can swell the board. Kitchen joints get a sealant suited to kitchens, colour-matched where it shows. If you are dealing with black mould in the silicone that won’t clean off and shrunken sealant along the back of a worktop, we can put it right.
A bathroom in a place like Gorthleck gets the same daily wear as one in a city flat. Limescale is less of a problem with Scotland’s generally soft water, but mould still takes hold in damp sealant and grout.
Every job is covered by a 12-month guarantee.

Gorthleck homes and their sealant
Scotland’s water is generally soft, so sealant and grout see less limescale than in much of England. But mould still grows into sealant and grout in a room that doesn’t dry out. In Scotland, private landlords have to meet the Repairing Standard, which includes keeping fixtures and fittings in reasonable repair. Failed sealant around a bath or shower is worth sorting between tenancies.
In and around Gorthleck, as anywhere, good bathroom resealing starts with a clean, dry, properly prepared joint.

How the visit works
Once we are on site, we check the joints match what you told us. If anything is different, we explain it before carrying on. Most jobs then take half a day or less for one room, longer when the kitchen is included. Outdoor work around Gorthleck depends on the weather, as sealant needs a dry surface, so external jobs may need to move if the day turns wet. Work indoors isn’t affected.
- First, each joint is checked for movement and signs of water.
- Every trace of the old bead is removed, including the thin smear on the tiles.
- The joint is cleaned, degreased and treated for mould.
- With the joint dry, and any bath loaded with water, a single bead of anti-fungal silicone is applied.
- We tool the bead to a neat finish and give you the cure time, usually around 24 hours.
Preparing for the visit
- For indoor joints, keep the area dry beforehand if you can
- Keep children and pets away from the work area
- Mention any leaks or damp you’ve noticed

Questions from Gorthleck
Will you come out to Gorthleck?
Yes, Gorthleck is covered. Our work covers the whole of Scotland, and smaller places are part of that. Longer journeys are simply planned in advance.

Yes, Gorthleck is within the area we cover. We work across all of Scotland. You can email us at info@mrmastic.co.uk and let us know what needs doing.
What do you need from me for a quote?
Only a few details: where it is, what you’ve noticed and how we reach it. After that, simply email us at info@mrmastic.co.uk.
Can you work on commercial sites?
Yes. We work in offices, washrooms, hotels and other commercial premises. We can talk about working times when we quote.
Can new silicone go straight over the old?
No. A bead laid over old silicone soon starts to come away. We remove the old bead completely before resealing.
Do you remove the old sealant?
Always. Sealing over the old bead is the commonest cause of early failure, so we never do it.

Common problems we fix in Gorthleck
With age, silicone loses its stretch. In kitchens it often shrinks away from the back edge, leaving a thin gap where water and food collect. Hot pans and harsh cleaners do not help.
It’s worth asking for a quote if you see:
- A reseal done over the top of the old bead
- Shrunken sealant along the back of a worktop
- A joint torn by a bath that flexes
- Black mould in the silicone that won’t clean off
Whether the job is in Gorthleck itself or nearby, the right material for each joint matters as much as a neat finish.
What to look for in a quote
- Whether the sealant suits the joint
- The length of the guarantee
- Whether you can choose the colour
- Is VAT in the price?
What sealant work can’t fix
We will always be straight with you, so here’s what new sealant will not do:
- Movement from a bath with loose feet or no proper support
- Failed grout lines across the wall
- A tray or bath that is cracked through
If in doubt, email us at info@mrmastic.co.uk and we will say what we think before you book.
What we seal
- Baths
- Kitchen worktops & upstands
- Wet rooms
- Sinks & splashbacks
- Basins & vanity units
- Shower trays & enclosures
What the job involves on each surface
Shower trays & enclosures
The vertical joint where a screen profile meets the wall is a common leak point. We reseal it along with the base of the enclosure, sealing the side the enclosure’s instructions call for.
Basins & vanity units
Basin joints are short and close to eye level: so we keep the line tidy and even, in white, clear or a colour to suit.
What affects the quote in Gorthleck
Some jobs are bigger than they look, and some smaller. What affects the quote:
- The type of sealant required
- Access and height
- The amount of work
- When we can work, for business premises
A few things move the cost up or down: the old material and how easily it comes out, any mould to treat, and whether we need extra access for height. Your quote takes all of that into account.
Asking for a quote
What to tell us when you ask for a quote:
- If someone has resealed it before
- The rough size of the job
- Where the property is
- How we’d reach the joints

Should I try it myself first?
Overfilling a joint is a classic DIY mistake. A heavy bead looks messy and copes badly with movement, and the joint depth matters as much as the finish.
The biggest DIY mistake is sealing over old sealant. Silicone does not stick to old silicone, so it lifts and traps water and mould underneath. All the old material has to come out first.
