Bathroom resealing for homes and businesses in Fergushill

With over 20 years in the trade, we reseal baths, showers and kitchens in homes across Fergushill. We’re fully insured ARBOMaster approved applicators, and every job carries our one-year guarantee. We work on baths, kitchen worktops & upstands and sinks & splashbacks, and the jobs we see most are lumpy, uneven sealant from a DIY attempt and black mould in the silicone that won’t clean off.

For a place like Fergushill, the job is the same as anywhere: everything old is cut out, the joints are cleaned and dried, and new sealant or grout goes in. We just plan the journey and access beforehand.

A 12-month guarantee comes as standard, so you’re not left on your own once the job is done.

Leave it or put it right?

Mould removers can fade the surface of a stained bead, but mould that has grown into the sealant tends to return. The lasting answer is to remove the bead and start again. In a place like Fergushill, small leaks are easy to put off, but water through a failed joint keeps working away until it’s fixed.

Instead of a standard rate, we look at what your job involves: how many joints, what’s in them now and how we reach them. The price is agreed before we begin.

Why Fergushill customers choose us

  • Neat joints and a tidy finish
  • Anti-fungal sanitary silicone in wet areas
  • Any old sealant cut out fully, not covered over
  • We agree the colour with you first

Take a look at how sealant jobs are priced or our reviews.

The process

Before we leave, we go over the finished joints with you and explain the cure time. The work normally takes around two hours for one bath or shower, longer for a whole bathroom, depending on the size of the job. Outdoor work around Fergushill depends on the weather, as sealant needs a dry surface, so an outdoor job can move if the forecast changes. Work indoors is not affected.

  1. Protection goes down around the bath, shower or worktop.
  2. Old sealant is sliced away and the residue removed.
  3. Mould is treated, then the joint is left to dry thoroughly.
  4. Baths are filled first, then anti-fungal sanitary silicone is applied in a colour to suit.
  5. The joint is finished neatly and we explain when it can get wet.

Getting ready for the visit

Keeping the joints in good condition

No joint lasts for ever, but care makes a real difference. A few tips:

  • Use gentle cleaners on the silicone
  • Don’t let bottles sit on the bead
  • Check the joints every few months for splits or lifting
  • Give the silicone its full cure time

Keep water off the new bead until it has cured, following the cure time we give you. Once it’s cured, wiping it down after use keeps it looking new.

A few black dots in the silicone soon become a black line. Once it’s deep in the silicone, cleaning generally won’t remove it. Catching it early keeps it a simple reseal.

What the job involves on each surface

Shower trays & enclosures

Water often gets past the wall profile of a shower enclosure. It’s resealed along with the tray joints, sealing the side the enclosure’s instructions call for.

Sinks & splashbacks

Splashbacks in glass, tile or acrylic meet the worktop in a long joint. We renew it in clear, white or a matched colour.

What affects the cost of bathroom resealing

Jobs vary more than people expect. What affects the quote:

  • Which sealant suits the joint
  • The size of the job
  • Whether there’s mould to deal with
  • How much old sealant there is and how hard it is to remove

A few things move the cost up or down: the old material and how easily it comes out, whether mould needs treating, and whether we need extra access for height. Your quote takes all of that into account.

Asking for a quote

When you contact us, these details help:

  • Whether it has been sealed before
  • The address or postcode of the job
  • Whether it’s a home or a business
  • Access, such as stairs, a lift or height

Asking for a quote is easy: let us know the job and the location, and roughly how big it is. A few photos by email make the job easier to understand.

Signs you need bathroom resealing in Fergushill

Silicone needs a clean, dry surface without any grease to stick to. Traces of soap, bath oil and old sealant stop it gripping, so a rushed job can start to lift early.

People generally contact us when they notice something like this:

  • Mouldy sealant that has gone black
  • A reseal done over the top of the old bead
  • Leaking joints on a shower screen
  • A bead that has pulled away from the tiles

If you let a flat or house near Kilwinning station, mouldy sealant is one of the first things a new tenant notices, so it’s worth renewing between lets.

FAQs for Fergushill

Can you do bathroom resealing in Fergushill?

Yes. We work across all of Scotland, and Fergushill is part of that. Just drop us a line at info@mrmastic.co.uk with a few details of the job.

Is Fergushill within the area you cover?

Yes, smaller places are covered as well as towns. We work across all of Scotland. Just mention lanes, gates or anything else about the route when you book.

How long before the new sealant can get wet?

The surface skins over fairly quickly, but the bead needs longer to cure right through. Leave it around 24 hours before it gets wet, or follow the cure time we give you.

How do I get a quote for bathroom resealing in Fergushill?

There’s no set price, as it depends on the job: its size, the old material, access and the product needed. We agree the price before any work begins.

Will the old sealant be removed?

Yes. Sealing over the old bead is the commonest cause of early failure, and it’s something we never do.

Where are you based?

Mr Mastic is based in Crawley. We cover Fergushill and the rest of North Ayrshire.

Which products do you use?

Each joint gets the product that suits it. Where it moves, gets wet or faces the weather makes a difference, and we will explain our choice.

Do you do commercial work?

Yes. Commercial and hotel work is a large part of what we do. We can talk about working times when we quote.

Fergushill homes and their sealant

In Scotland, private landlords have to meet the Repairing Standard, which includes keeping fixtures and fittings in reasonable repair. Tired, leaking sealant is worth putting right before a new tenant moves in. Scottish Water supplies are generally soft, so limescale is less of a problem than in hard-water areas. But mould still grows into sealant and grout in a room that doesn’t dry out.

When it isn’t the sealant

In fairness, there are a few things sealant will not fix:

  • Leaks from a shower valve, waste or pipework (a plumber’s job)
  • Cracked or missing grout between tiles (that’s regrouting)
  • Damage behind the tiles that needs a tiler

If in doubt, send an email to info@mrmastic.co.uk and we will say what we think before you book.
