Bathroom resealing in Dreghorn

Surface by surface

Baths

Baths move more than any other fitting, so it’s filled with water before the bead goes on. That way the joint is laid with the bath at its heaviest and is not torn the first time it’s used.

Kitchen worktops & upstands

Kitchen joints need more degreasing than bathroom ones, because cooking grease stops sealant bonding. Proper degreasing is what helps the new joint last.

How we handle bathroom resealing in Dreghorn

Sealant that’s mouldy, cracked or peeling shouldn’t be left until there’s a leak. A photo of the joints helps when you email us at info@mrmastic.co.uk, and we’ll give you a clear quote for bathroom resealing in Dreghorn. We work on wet rooms, basins & vanity units and shower trays & enclosures, and the jobs we see most are two layers of silicone, both failing and cracked, shrunken or lifting silicone.

Bathrooms in smaller places like Dreghorn work just as hard as those in the cities. Limescale is less of a problem with Scotland’s generally soft water, but mould still takes hold in damp sealant and grout.

A 12-month guarantee comes as standard.

How it works

The work is kept neat and contained to the area we’re working on. Expect the work to take two to three hours for a typical bath, depending on how much old sealant there is, and we tell you how long to leave it before we go. Around Dreghorn, distance and access matter more than parking. Let us know how to find you and how to reach the joints.

  1. First, each joint is checked for movement and signs of water.
  2. Every trace of the old bead is removed, including the thin smear on the tiles.
  3. The joint is cleaned, degreased and treated for mould.
  4. With the joint dry, and any bath loaded with water, a single bead of anti-fungal silicone is applied.
  5. The bead is tooled smooth and you are told the cure time, generally around 24 hours.

Advice

What sealant work can’t fix

A few problems are outside what sealant work can do:

  • A bath or tray that moves because it isn’t properly supported
  • A leaking waste, trap or valve
  • Cracked or missing grout between tiles (that’s regrouting)

If you’re not sure, just drop us a line at info@mrmastic.co.uk and we’ll give you a straight answer.

Where we work in Dreghorn

  • Shower trays & enclosures
  • Wet rooms
  • Kitchen worktops & upstands
  • Baths
  • Sinks & splashbacks
  • Basins & vanity units

Looking after it afterwards

So the new joints stay in good condition:

  • Dry worktop joints after washing up
  • Let new sealant cure fully before it gets wet
  • Never pick at the silicone with a blade
  • Squeegee the walls and tray after use

Give the silicone time to cure before it gets wet, following the cure time we give you. After that, a quick wipe after showering helps keep it clean.

A split bead lets water through every time the bath or shower is used. Left alone, it soaks into the floor, the wall behind the tiles or the ceiling below. Resealing early stops it.

Work for landlords, hotels and businesses

Water getting past a failed joint can damage the building, which is a bigger problem in a rented property. Resealing at the right time is simple maintenance.

Housing providers, facilities teams and property managers book us too. We can quote a run of properties together.

Dreghorn questions

I let a flat near Irvine station. Can you help?

Yes. We work for landlords and letting agents as well as householders, and several properties can be quoted together. Just email us at info@mrmastic.co.uk with the address and what needs doing, and we will give you a clear price.

Will you come out to Dreghorn?

Yes, smaller places are covered as well as towns. We work across all of Scotland. Just mention lanes, gates or anything else about the route when you book.

Does someone need to be in?

That depends on where the joints are. For work indoors, someone needs to let us in.

How long does a bath or shower reseal take?

That depends on the number of joints and the state of the old sealant. For most single baths or showers, allow a couple of hours.

What do you put in the joint?

The product depends on the job: sanitary silicone where it gets wet, and sealants suited to movement or weather elsewhere. Brands we use include Arbo and Everbuild.

Will the old sealant be removed?

Yes. We cut out all the old sealant and clean the joint.

Will you leave a mess?

We keep the work tidy. We protect what’s around the joints, and we clear up when we’re done.

Do you have insurance?

Yes. We are fully insured, with over 20 years’ experience in sealant work.

What affects the quote in Dreghorn

The price is agreed before any work begins. It takes into account:

  • Whether the work is at height
  • Any mould that needs treating
  • The number of rooms or windows
  • Working hours on commercial sites

Some things make a job bigger or smaller: how much old sealant there is and how stubborn it is, any mould to treat, and whether we need extra access for height. We take all of that into account in your quote.

What we need to know

To help us quote quickly, let us know:

  • The address or postcode of the job
  • Any previous sealing or DIY work
  • Pictures of the joints, sent by email
  • What the problem is, such as mould, gaps, leaks or cracking

We quote each job on its own, so start by telling us what you need. Simply send an email to info@mrmastic.co.uk and describe the job.

Bathrooms and kitchens in Dreghorn

Dreghorn is within about 3 miles of the coast. Near the coast, holiday lets and guest houses can see bathrooms used by one guest after another, which wears sealant and grout out faster than in a quiet home. Scottish Water supplies are generally soft, so limescale is less of a problem than in hard-water areas. Mould is another matter: a bathroom that stays damp still turns sealant and grout black.

Signs you need bathroom resealing in Dreghorn

Not every tube in the shop is meant for a shower. Decorators’ caulk and all-purpose sealants aren’t made for constant wetting, so they stain, crack or go mouldy before long. A bathroom joint needs anti-fungal sanitary silicone.

If you can see any of these, it’s time to have the joints looked at:

  • Sealant that has split, shrunk or peeled away
  • Failed sealant on the screen profile
  • Smears of silicone across the tiles
  • Gaps between the worktop and the wall

Managing a site like Greenwood Academy? Then its toilets, changing areas and kitchens need their sealant renewed like any other building’s.
