About our bathroom resealing in Douglastown

Showers work their sealant harder than baths. Trays, enclosures, screen profiles and wet room floors all need a flexible, waterproof seal. They’re resealed with anti-fungal sanitary silicone, tooled smooth so water runs off instead of sitting in a ridge. If you have smears of silicone across the tiles and mouldy sealant that has gone black, we can help, whatever the surface.

For a place like Douglastown, the job is the same as anywhere: everything old is cut out, the joints are cleaned and dried, and new sealant or grout goes in. We just plan the journey and access beforehand.

A one-year guarantee comes as standard, so you are covered after we’ve gone.

Your questions about bathroom resealing in Douglastown

Is Douglastown in your area for bathroom resealing?

Yes. Our work covers the whole of Scotland, and Douglastown is part of that. You can drop us a line at info@mrmastic.co.uk and tell us what needs doing.

Will you come out to Douglastown?

Yes, we do. We work across all of Scotland, and smaller places are part of that. Longer journeys are simply planned in advance.

Can mouldy silicone be sorted out?

Yes. Once mould has grown into the silicone, it usually can’t be cleaned out for good, so we cut it out, treat the joint and reseal with anti-fungal silicone.

Can you reseal around my kitchen sink and worktop?

Yes. We reseal worktop upstands, sinks and splashbacks, in a kitchen-suitable sealant, matched to the worktop where it’s on show.

How long does it take to reseal a bath or shower?

That depends on the number of joints and the state of the old sealant. For most single baths or showers, allow a couple of hours.

Is there any odour?

It depends on the product. Some smell for a while, some hardly at all.

What information do you need?

A short description and the location. We’ll ask anything else we need to know.

Are you an approved applicator?

Yes. We hold ARBOMaster approved applicator status.

When to call us in Douglastown

A bath shifts a little every time it’s filled and emptied. Acrylic in particular gives slightly under the weight of water and a person, and a tray that is not fully bedded can rock. Over time the joint tears or pulls away from the tile.

People usually contact us when they notice something like this:

  • Mouldy sealant that has gone black
  • Leaking joints on a shower screen
  • New sealant laid over old sealant that is now lifting
  • Shrunken sealant along the back of a worktop

In and around Douglastown, as anywhere, good bathroom resealing starts with a clean, dry, properly prepared joint.

What we can’t put right

It helps to know what we cannot do:

  • A tray or bath that’s cracked through
  • Failed grout lines across the wall
  • A tray that rocks until it’s re-bedded

If you’re not sure, just drop us a line at info@mrmastic.co.uk and we’ll give you a straight answer.

Surfaces we seal

  • Basins & vanity units
  • Wet rooms
  • Shower trays & enclosures
  • Kitchen worktops & upstands
  • Sinks & splashbacks
  • Baths

Leave it or put it right?

Mould removers can fade the surface of a stained bead, but where mould is inside the silicone it generally comes back. The lasting answer is to remove the bead and start again. Out of town in Scotland, exposed walls take a lot of weather, and damp in stone or harled walls takes a long time to dry once water gets behind a joint.

A failed joint rarely gets cheaper to fix by waiting. If you are unsure, drop us a line at info@mrmastic.co.uk and we’ll give you an honest view and a quote.

What happens on the day

There is not much for you to do on the day. Show us the job and we will take it from there. The job generally takes two to three hours for a typical bath, depending on how much old sealant there is. In smaller Scottish places, parking is usually less of an issue than access and distance. Let us know how to find you and how to reach the joints, and the visit is planned around that.

  1. We cover the area around the joints we’re working on.
  2. We cut away the old sealant and clean off what’s left.
  3. Mould is treated, then the joint is left to dry thoroughly.
  4. Baths are filled first, then anti-fungal sanitary silicone is applied in a colour to suit.
  5. We finish the joint, clear up and tell you how long to leave it before it gets wet.

Getting ready for the visit

  • Let us know about parking restrictions
  • Tell us about any water getting in
  • Try not to wet indoor joints just before the visit

How to look after the new joints

Looking after new joints is easy, and it makes a real difference:

  • Move toiletries away from the joint
  • Avoid abrasive pads on the sealant
  • Let new sealant cure fully before it gets wet
  • Keep an eye on the corners, where splits start

Clean the silicone with care: a mild bathroom cleaner and a soft cloth is enough. Scourers and blades can nick the surface, because a damaged bead gives mould a foothold.

A few black dots in the silicone soon become a black line. When it has grown right through, it rarely cleans out. Catching it early keeps it a simple reseal.

DIY versus a professional finish

If you do try it yourself, take your time over the preparation: remove every trace of old sealant, clean and dry the joint, and follow the product’s cure time. If it fails, we can still redo it.

Sealing over old silicone is the commonest DIY error. Silicone does not stick to old silicone, so it peels away and traps moisture behind it. Everything old must be removed first.
