Bathroom resealing in Cowden

Showers work their sealant harder than baths. Tray edges, screen profiles and wet room joints all rely on silicone to stay watertight. Each gets a bead of anti-fungal sanitary silicone, tooled smooth so water runs off instead of sitting in a ridge. Typical jobs include damp behind the bath or under the tray and two layers of silicone, both failing, on sinks & splashbacks, basins & vanity units and shower trays & enclosures.

Homes around Cowden are mostly houses and cottages rather than flats, some with bathrooms tucked into older rooms or extensions. Sealant and grout wear out here just as they do anywhere: old material cut out, joints cleaned and a fresh finish laid.

The work is guaranteed for twelve months. If there’s a problem with our work within the year, let us know and we will sort it.

DIY versus a professional finish

If you are set on DIY, put the effort into preparation: take out all the old sealant, make sure the joint is clean and dry, and give it the full cure time. If it fails, we can still redo it.

Some jobs are best left to a professional: work at height, external movement joints, fire-rated sealant and large areas call for the right materials, safe access and experience.

Honest limits

We’ll always be straight with you, so here’s what new sealant won’t do:

  • A leaking waste, trap or valve
  • A tray or bath that is cracked through
  • Damage behind the tiles that needs a tiler

If in doubt, phone 0345 464 0079 or send us an email and we’ll say what we think.

Surfaces we seal

  • Baths
  • Shower trays & enclosures
  • Sinks & splashbacks
  • Basins & vanity units
  • Wet rooms
  • Kitchen worktops & upstands

The process

Every visit runs the same way: we look at the joints together, protect the area around them, carry out the job and clear up. It usually takes two to three hours for a typical bath, depending on how much old sealant there is. In a small place like Cowden, access is normally the main thing to plan. If the job is outside, mention outbuildings, exposed walls and how to reach them.

  1. We look at every joint first and check for movement or leaks.
  2. The old silicone is cut out completely, along with the film it leaves on the tiles.
  3. Joints are degreased and any mould is treated.
  4. With the joint dry, and any bath loaded with water, a single bead of anti-fungal silicone is applied.
  5. We tool the bead to a neat finish and give you the cure time, normally around 24 hours.

How to prepare

  • Let us know about earlier repairs to the joints
  • For indoor joints, keep the area dry beforehand if you can
  • Tell us about access, such as stairs, a lift or high-level joints

Why act early in Cowden

Leaving a split or mouldy bead only stores up trouble. Once water is behind the bath, it can reach floorboards, panels and the ceiling underneath, turning a small job into a building repair. Around Cowden, older homes often have timber in their floors and frames, where water from a failed joint can cause rot if it’s left.

No two jobs are quite the same, so each one gets its own quote. Size, access and the product the joint needs all play a part.

Why us?

  • 20+ years of sealant experience
  • A sealant colour to suit the surroundings
  • Anti-fungal silicone where joints get wet

Signs you need bathroom resealing in Cowden

Not every tube in the shop is meant for a shower. Acrylic caulk and general-purpose sealants are not designed for a joint that’s wet every day, so they stain, crack or go mouldy before long. Wet areas call for a sanitary silicone with an anti-fungal additive.

It’s worth asking for a quote if you see:

  • Water escaping at the shower enclosure
  • Shrunken sealant along the back of a worktop
  • Mouldy sealant that has gone black
  • A joint torn by a bath that flexes

Homes close to Church of St Mary Magdalene include some older properties, and walls and floors in older homes can move, and sealant and grout show it first.

Baths

Most bath leaks begin along the long edge, especially under a shower. It gets one smooth bead of anti-fungal silicone.

What affects the quote in Cowden

For a quick quote, just ask. What matters most is:

  • How much old sealant there is and how hard it is to remove
  • The size of the job
  • How many rooms, windows or areas are involved
  • Whether the work is at height

Combining jobs into one visit normally makes better use of the time than several visits, so it’s worth mentioning everything you’d like done. You will get one clear quote for the whole job.

When you call or email, it’s useful to know:

  • Whether it’s a home or a business
  • Where the job is, and your postcode
  • Any access issues, like height or stairs
  • Any previous sealing or DIY work

The more we know about the job, the more useful the quote. Let us know the location, the problem and roughly how many joints.
