Looking after it afterwards

So the new joints stay in good condition:

  • Wipe the sealant dry after showering
  • Keep scourers and sharp tools away from the bead
  • Dry worktop joints after washing up
  • Keep bottles off the sealant line

Mould needs damp, so keep the room aired. Run the extractor fan during and after a shower, so the silicone gets a chance to dry.

Mould that starts as a few spots spreads through the bead. When it has grown right through, it rarely cleans out, and nearby grout often goes the same way. Replacing the sealant early keeps the job small.

Bathroom resealing in Barbaraville, done properly

Kitchens need the same care as bathrooms. The joint between worktop and wall, the edge of the sink and the bottom of the splashback get wet every single day, and water that gets into the back edge of a worktop can swell the board. Kitchen joints get a sealant suited to kitchens, colour-matched where it shows. If you’re dealing with smears of silicone across the tiles and two layers of silicone, both failing, we can help.

Across smaller places in Scotland, homes range from stone and harled cottages to newer houses. Older buildings can move a little, and that shows first in cracked grout and split sealant.

A 12-month guarantee comes as standard, so you’re covered after we’ve gone.

How it works

There’s no need to move everything out, only the area right around the joints. Everything nearby is protected, and the work takes half a day or less for one room, longer when the kitchen is included in most cases. Outside jobs in Barbaraville need a dry day, because sealant won’t bond to a wet joint, so an outdoor job can move if the forecast changes. Work indoors is not affected.

  1. We cover the area around the joints we’re working on.
  2. Old sealant is sliced away and the residue removed.
  3. Mould is treated, then the joint is left to dry thoroughly.
  4. Baths are filled first, then anti-fungal sanitary silicone is applied in a colour to suit.
  5. We finish the joint, clear up and tell you how long to leave it before it gets wet.

Advice

How we quote for bathroom resealing

Some jobs are bigger than they look, and some smaller. The main factors:

  • Any mould that needs treating
  • The product the joint needs
  • Working hours on commercial sites
  • How much old sealant there is and how hard it is to remove

No two jobs are quite the same, so each one gets its own quote. Size, access and the product the joint needs all play a part, and we’ll explain the quote if you ask.

What to tell us for a quote

To help us quote quickly, please include:

  • Whether it has been sealed before
  • How we’d reach the joints
  • Where the job is, and your postcode
  • The rough size of the job

To get a quote, drop us a line at info@mrmastic.co.uk and tell us where the job is and what the problem looks like. You will have a clear quote before we start.

Bathroom resealing around Barbaraville

Barbaraville is close to the coast. Coastal homes, holiday lets and guest houses can see heavy bathroom use in busy months, and sealant and grout that work that hard wear out sooner. Scottish Water supplies are generally soft, so limescale is less of a problem than in hard-water areas. But mould still grows into sealant and grout in a room that does not dry out.

In and around Barbaraville, as anywhere, good bathroom resealing starts with a clean, dry, properly prepared joint.

What we can’t put right

A few problems are outside what sealant work can do:

  • A tray that rocks until it’s re-bedded
  • Tiles that have come away from the wall
  • Leaks from a shower valve, waste or pipework (a plumber’s job)

If in doubt, send an email to info@mrmastic.co.uk and we’ll say what we think before you book.

Questions from Barbaraville

Is Barbaraville within the area you cover?

Yes, smaller places are covered as well as towns. Our work covers the whole of Scotland. Just mention lanes, gates or anything else about the route when you book.

Do you work for landlords with property near Invergordon station?

Yes. We work for landlords and agents as well as homeowners. You can drop us a line at info@mrmastic.co.uk with the details for a clear quote.

Can I add another job to the visit?

Yes. Just list everything you need and you’ll get one quote.

Is it OK to put new sealant on top of the old bead?

No. It’s a common reason for reseals failing. The old joint is stripped, cleaned and resealed from scratch.

Where do you work from?

Mr Mastic is based in Crawley. We cover Barbaraville and the rest of Highland.

Are you an approved applicator?

Yes. ARBOMaster is the approved applicator scheme for Arbo sealants, and we are part of it.

What sealant do you use?

Quality sealants from brands including Arbo and Everbuild, chosen to suit the joint. We explain the product when we quote.

Will there be a smell?

It depends on the product. Some smell for a while, some hardly at all, and any smell fades as they cure.

Do you need bathroom resealing in Barbaraville?

Mould is the reason many people want their sealant replaced. Steamy rooms that don’t dry out keep the silicone damp for hours, and mould that has grown into the silicone usually will not clean off.

Signs it’s time to call us include:

  • Water escaping at the shower enclosure
  • New sealant laid over old sealant that is now lifting
  • Lumpy, uneven sealant from a DIY attempt
  • Cracked, shrunken or lifting silicone

For landlords with property near Invergordon station, a reseal between tenants is a quick way to make the bathroom and kitchen look cared for.

Choosing a sealant specialist

Surface by surface

Kitchen worktops & upstands

Water behind a laminate worktop can make the edge swell. A sound joint along the back edge stops that, as long as the worktop itself is firmly fixed.

Baths

Acrylic baths flex the most, while steel and cast iron baths move less but still settle when full. Loading the bath with water before sealing allows for it.
