Window mastic in Ryde, done properly

Whether it’s one leaking patio door or every frame on the house, the work is priced before anything is done. To get one, call 0345 464 0079 or send us an email with the number of frames and any access details. We work on composite doors, uPVC windows and patio & French doors, and the jobs we see most are rushed sealant from a window installation and black, perished sealant on frames.

Plenty of homes in a town like Ryde have had conservatories, patio doors or new windows added over the years. Each one adds more joints to look after, and those joints age at different rates. Leaks normally start at a sill, a frame head or a glazing joint.

All of our work is guaranteed for twelve months.

How to look after the new joints

Simple care keeps the joints in good condition. Our advice:

  • Repaint timber before it’s bare
  • Keep jet washers away from the mastic
  • Do not use solvent cleaners on the joint
  • Keep paint off silicone joints

Keep sill grooves and drainage slots clear, so water can run away instead of sitting against the joint.

A failed joint lets water into the wall a little at a time. Often the first sign is a damp patch inside or flaking paint on the reveal. Catching it early keeps the fix to a reseal.

How we quote for window mastic

There’s no set price list, because no two jobs are the same. What we look at:

  • Whether the work is at height
  • The number of rooms or windows
  • The size of the job
  • Any working-time requirements on site

Some things make a job bigger or smaller: how much old sealant there is and how stubborn it is, whether mould needs treating, and whether the work is at height. Your quote takes all of that into account.

Asking for a quote

You don’t need to know the technical terms. Just tell us:

  • The address or postcode of the job
  • Pictures of the joints, sent by email
  • Any access issues, like height or stairs
  • The rough size of the job

Call for a quick quote, or email us if that’s easier. Describe what needs sealing and we will talk you through the work before giving you a price.

Signs you need window mastic in Ryde

Plenty of failed mastic was poorly applied in the first place. Sealant run over dust, wet brick or loose mortar didn’t grip properly, and it lets go sooner than it should.

People generally contact us after spotting one of these:

  • Cracked or shrunken mastic around the frame
  • Gaps where the sill meets the wall
  • Gaps left after new windows were fitted
  • Draughts coming in around windows and doors

Letting a property close to Ryde St Johns Road station? Then cracked frame mastic tends to show up as a draught or damp complaint, so it’s worth checking between lets.

What your quote should include

  • How long the guarantee is
  • What preparation is included
  • How the colour is chosen
  • Is VAT in the price?

Choosing a sealant specialist

Ryde: your questions answered

Can you help a landlord with a rental near Ryde St Johns Road station?

Yes, rental work is part of what we do. You can call 0345 464 0079 or email us with the address and a few details, and we’ll give you a fixed price before work begins.

Is window mastic in a coastal place like Ryde any different?

Coastal homes put outside sealant through more weather than inland ones, so the choice of sealant and the preparation matter even more. It’s worth checking the walls that face the sea first.

Are you ARBOMaster approved?

Yes. We hold ARBOMaster approved applicator status and we are fully insured too.

Does the work come with a guarantee?

Yes. Our 12-month guarantee covers every job, inside or out.

Is it messy?

We keep the work tidy. Nearby surfaces are protected.

Do you work in Ryde?

Yes. We’re based in Crawley and work across South East England, London and Scotland.

Where is Mr Mastic based?

Our base is in Crawley, West Sussex, and we work across South East England, London and Scotland.

Can I add another job to the visit?

Of course. Doing several areas at once is generally more efficient.

What happens on the day

Once we’re on site, we check the joints match what you told us. If we find something unexpected, we talk it through with you first. Most jobs then take a few hours for a handful of frames, longer for a whole house. For a job in Ryde, we need access to where the work is and somewhere nearby to park. For outside work, let us know about side access, gates and any upper-floor joints.

  1. First, we confirm safe access to each frame.
  2. Old, cracked mastic is removed completely, along with any loose debris.
  3. Frame and wall are cleaned and must be dry before sealing.
  4. Deep voids are backed, then the sealant is gunned in.
  5. We tool the joint so water runs off, then clear up.

Getting ready for the visit

  • Tell us about access, such as stairs, a lift or high-level joints
  • Try not to wet indoor joints just before the visit
  • For business premises, tell us about site rules or sign-in

Advice

What we cannot put right

To be straight with you, there are a few things sealant will not fix:

  • Rotten timber, which needs a joiner first
  • Damp coming through the wall itself rather than the frame joint
  • Broken hinges, locks or handles

If you are not sure, just ring 0345 464 0079 or send us an email and we will give you a straight answer before you book.

Surfaces we seal

What window mastic looks like in Ryde

Ryde is within about 1 mile of the coast, where wind-driven rain is a fact of life and, nearer the shore, so is salt air. That’s hard on the mastic around window and door frames, especially on the side facing the sea. With historic houses such as Nunwell House (about 2.8 miles south) nearby, there’s older building stock in the area around Ryde as well as newer homes. Where a home is older, older frames set in brick or stone need a sealant that suits them, and sometimes that is traditional sand mastic.

Schools such as Dover Park Primary School are buildings too, and larger buildings have plenty of frames, and the mastic around each one ages. In the older streets around All Saints' Church, the joint between an old wall and a newer frame is generally the first place rain gets in.

Ryde is about 6 miles south of Gosport, in the Isle of Wight. Our applicators cover window mastic for homeowners, landlords and businesses in Ryde and the surrounding area. Different surfaces, different methods

Window sills

Where a sill meets brick or render, the ends often crack first. A tight seal at each end keeps rain out of the wall.

Aluminium frames

Bi-fold and sliding aluminium doors have long frame joints, and the bottom joint sees the most water. We prepare and reseal every joint, backing the deep ones.
