Whether it’s one leaking patio door or every frame on the house, the work is priced before anything is done. To get one, phone 0345 464 0079 or drop us an email with the number of frames and any access details for window mastic in Harestock. Common call-outs are for gaps between the frame and the inside reveal and gaps left after new windows were fitted, on timber windows & doors, window sills and uPVC windows.

In a smaller place like Harestock, some walls face open ground and catch the full force of the weather, so exposed windows and doors face the weather head on. The mastic around frames on those walls tends to age faster.

You are covered for a year from the day we finish. If there’s a problem with it, please ring 0345 464 0079 or send us an email.

Window mastic in Harestock: local notes

Compared with the north and west, the South East gets less rain, yet outdoor joints still have to be sealed dry, so jobs are booked with the weather in mind.

For site and facilities teams at buildings such as Harestock Primary School, its window and door frames need their mastic kept sound, just like a home’s. If you let a flat or house near Winchester station, sound mastic around windows and doors keeps out the draughts and damp that tenants notice first. Homes close to Saint Barnabas include some older properties, and the joint between an old wall and a newer frame is generally the first place rain gets in.

Harestock is about 2 miles north-west of Winchester, in Hampshire. Harestock gets the same service as everywhere we cover: old sealant removed completely, careful preparation and a 12-month guarantee. Harestock is one of 683 places in Hampshire where we work for window mastic. For nearby work, see our Southampton page, about 12 miles away.

All of SO22 is covered for window mastic, from the main roads to the quietest streets. We cover properties on Kennel Lane, Burley Road and Stoney Lane. If you’re just outside Harestock, we cover Littleton (1 mile north-west), Weeke (1 mile south), Abbotts Barton (1 mile south-east), Hyde (1 mile south-east) and Headbourne Worthy (1 mile north-east). What happens on the day

On the day, there’s very little for you to do. Point us to the joints and we will get on with it. The work itself takes a few hours for a handful of frames, longer for a whole house. A visit to Harestock is planned like any other: the time, the access and where to park are agreed in advance. If the work is outside, the weather plays a part, as sealant needs a dry surface.

  1. We check each frame and agree which ones need doing.
  2. The old mastic is cut out and the surfaces cleaned back.
  3. Where gaps are deep, backing rod goes in first.
  4. We apply a weatherproof sealant to match the frame and tool it neatly.
  5. Finally we tidy up and check each joint.

What affects the cost of window mastic

Call for a quick quote. What matters most is:

  • The number of rooms or windows
  • The type of sealant required
  • Whether old sealant or filler has to be cut out
  • When we can work, for business premises

Every job is a little different, so we quote each one individually. The number of joints, how easy they are to reach and the sealant needed all make a difference.

Asking for a quote

A few details help us give you an accurate quote. When you ask for a quote, tell us:

  • Any access issues, like height or stairs
  • The type of property
  • Pictures of the joints, sent by email
  • The problem you’ve noticed

Want a quote for window mastic? Please call 0345 464 0079 or email us and tell us about the job. You will know what we plan to do, and what it will cost, before any work begins.

Why act early in Harestock

Resealing frames is a short job: it takes anything from an hour or two to a full day, depending on how many frames there are. Wait for damp to appear and there may be plaster and decorating to sort out too. In an older home around Harestock, damp from a failed joint can get into timber and plaster, and that’s a much bigger job than renewing the sealant.

A few things move the cost up or down: the old material and how easily it comes out, whether mould needs treating, and whether the work is at height. Your quote takes all of that into account.

Questions from Harestock

Will you come out to Harestock?

Yes, Harestock is covered. We work across London and the South East, and smaller places are part of that. Longer journeys are simply planned in advance.

Can you help a landlord with a rental near Winchester station?

Yes, we work for letting agents and landlords. You can ring 0345 464 0079 or send us an email with the address and a few details, and we will give you a fixed price before we start.

Should I try DIY first?

Some simple jobs can be done by a careful DIYer. Most DIY failures come from sealing over old material, wet joints or too much sealant.

Can new window sealant be painted?

Most silicone cannot be painted. If you plan to paint, tell us first and we can use a paintable sealant where it suits the joint.

Do you hold any approvals?

Yes. We’re approved under the ARBOMaster scheme.

Is it messy?

Not at all. We work neatly, protect the area around the joints and tidy up afterwards.

Can you seal over the old sealant?

No. Fresh sealant does not stick to old sealant, and it traps any mould or water underneath. It all has to come out first.

Can you work on commercial sites?

Yes. Larger jobs can be planned room by room or area by area.

Should I try it myself first?

Some jobs are best left to a professional: high-level joints, fire-rated gaps, external movement joints and big jobs need the right product, the right access and the right method.

If you do try it yourself, take your time over the preparation: remove every trace of old sealant, clean and dry the joint, and follow the product’s cure time. If it fails, we can still redo it.

Surface by surface

Aluminium frames

Coated aluminium needs a compatible sealant. Neutral-cure sealant is the safe choice.

uPVC windows

Fitters’ mastic on plastic frames is sometimes thin and rushed. We cut it out, back any deep gaps and reseal properly.

How to look after the new joints

No joint lasts for ever, but care makes a real difference. A few tips:

  • Keep solvents and bleach off the sealant
  • Keep paint off silicone joints
  • Avoid blasting the frames with a pressure washer
  • Look round the frames every year or so

Timber frames need their paint kept up, since wood that gets wet swells and shrinks more. Keep paint off the silicone itself.

Leaks generally show up in wet, windy weather, but sealant goes on best when frames and walls are dry. Dealing with it when you first notice a crack avoids chasing leaks through the wet months.
