Window & door mastic in Crocketford, Dumfries and Galloway
Window mastic for Crocketford and the surrounding area: careful preparation, the right product and tidy work. Call for a quick quote.
- Rushed sealant from a window installation
- Cold air getting in at the frame edge
- A bead that doesn’t match the frame
Window mastic in Crocketford
Some gaps around frames are far deeper than they look. Filling it with sealant alone leaves a joint that cannot move properly, so we fit backing rod to set the right depth. The sealant then grips the two sides it should. If you are dealing with cold air getting in at the frame edge and hard, cracked sealant around windows, we can help.
Many older Scottish homes still have timber windows set into stone walls. The sealant has to suit the stone, which rules out acetoxy silicones that can mark or attack it.
We stand behind the work with a 12-month guarantee, so you are not left on your own once the job is done.

The process
Our applicators work methodically: protect, prepare, seal, tidy. Typically it takes a few hours for a handful of frames, longer for a whole house, and the area is left clean. In smaller Scottish places, parking is usually less of an issue than access and distance. Tell us how to find the property and how to reach the work.
- First we look at every frame and agree the list.
- The old mastic is cut out and the surfaces cleaned back.
- We fit backing rod in deep gaps so the sealant is the right depth.
- New exterior sealant goes on in a matching colour and is tooled smooth.
- Every joint is checked before we leave.
Before we arrive
- Try not to wet indoor joints just before the visit
- Mention any parking rules near the property
- Mention any sign-in or site rules at work premises

Looking after it afterwards
So the new joints stay in good condition:
- Use gentle cleaners on frames and sealant
- Keep solvents and bleach off the sealant
- Do not paint over the silicone
- Keep jet washers away from the mastic
Try not to touch the new joint while it cures, for as long as we advise. Do not point a pressure washer at the joints.
Draughts get worse, not better. As the old mastic shrinks further, more air gets through, and heat escapes around the frame. A new joint closes it up.
What affects the cost of window mastic
You’ll get a clear quote before work begins. It takes into account:
- Any mould that needs treating
- Whether old sealant or filler has to be cut out
- Whether the work is at height
- How many areas need sealing
Homes and businesses are quoted the same way: the amount of work, the access and the products needed, along with when we can work on site. Ask us for a quote and we’ll explain what it covers.
What to tell us for a quote
The more you tell us, the more accurate the quote. When you get in contact, it helps to mention:
- How many joints, rooms or windows are involved
- Pictures of the joints, sent by email
- If someone has resealed it before
- The type of property
For a quick quote, get us on the phone, or send an email if you’d rather. Tell us about the joints that need doing and we’ll talk you through the work.

FAQs for Crocketford
What guarantee comes with window mastic in Crocketford?
All our work, in Crocketford and everywhere else, comes with a 12-month guarantee. We are fully insured, and an ARBOMaster approved applicator.
Can you do window mastic in Crocketford?
Yes. Our work covers the whole of Scotland, and Crocketford is part of that. Just send an email to info@mrmastic.co.uk with a few details of the job.
Is the new sealant paintable?
It depends on the sealant. Silicone isn’t paintable, but some hybrid sealants are. Tell us if you’re decorating and we’ll choose accordingly.
Can you get sealant to suit coloured frames?
Usually, yes. Tell us the frame colour when you get in touch and we’ll match it as closely as we can.
Do the sealants smell?
Sometimes, a little. Any smell clears as the sealant cures.
How long before the joint can be used?
It depends on the product. Before we leave, we’ll tell you the cure time.
Are you ARBOMaster approved?
Yes. We are ARBOMaster approved, the scheme for applicators of Arbo sealants.
How long does it take to reseal the windows on a house?
The work takes a few hours for a few frames, or a day or more for a whole house. Access and the amount of old mastic make the biggest difference.
Frames and glazing around Crocketford
Many older homes in Scotland have sash and case windows, and the joint between the box frame and the stone or render is traditionally pointed with sand mastic. Private landlords in Scotland must meet the Repairing Standard, which includes keeping a home wind and watertight, and sound outside sealant is part of that.
For jobs in and around Crocketford, choosing the right material for each joint is as important as a tidy finish.

When to call us in Crocketford
Water runs down the glass onto the sill, and the ends of the sill, where it meets the wall, are where it gets in. When that sealant fails, water gets into the wall or under the frame.
These are the problems we’re asked about most:
- Hard, cracked sealant around windows
- Whistling draughts around closed windows
- Sealant in the wrong colour for the frame
- Rushed sealant from a window installation
Around Crocketford, as everywhere, window mastic is only as good as the preparation behind it.
What your quote should include
- How hidden problems are handled
- Whether they seal over old material or remove it
- What the quote includes, VAT included or not
- Who does the work, and how experienced they are
DIY sealant or a professional job?
If you do try it yourself, take your time over the preparation: take out all the old sealant, make sure the joint is clean and dry, and give it the full cure time. If it fails, we can still redo it.
Some jobs are best left to a professional: high-level joints, fire-rated gaps, external movement joints and big jobs need the right product, the right access and the right method.
When it isn’t the sealant
A few problems are outside what sealant work can do:
- A door that needs adjusting, rehanging or new seals
- Broken hinges, locks or handles
- Damp coming through the wall itself rather than the frame joint
If in doubt, email us at info@mrmastic.co.uk and we will say what we think before you book.

- Window sills
- Timber windows & doors
- Aluminium frames
- Patio & French doors
- uPVC windows
- Composite doors
What the job involves on each surface
Window sills
Stone and concrete sills have their own joints, and the joint under the frame can let rain run behind. We seal those with a sealant suited to masonry.
Patio & French doors
Door frames take knocks and movement every time the doors are used. A flexible sealant copes with that without cracking.
