What affects the quote in Ardminish

Jobs vary more than people expect. What affects the quote:

  • The product the joint needs
  • How much there is to do
  • Working hours on commercial sites
  • How many areas need sealing

There are no prices on our website, because the cost depends so much on the job itself. For a quick quote, please drop us a line at info@mrmastic.co.uk and we will talk you through it.

What we need to know

There’s no need for technical detail. Just tell us:

  • Any access issues, like height or stairs
  • Where the job is, and your postcode
  • What the problem is, such as mould, gaps, leaks or cracking
  • If it’s domestic, commercial or a hotel

Asking for a quote is easy: let us know the job and the location, and roughly how big it is. A few photos by email make the job easier to understand.

Window mastic for homes and businesses in Ardminish

Homes in Ardminish have every kind of window: uPVC, aluminium, timber and composite, plus patio doors, French doors and sills. The sealant is chosen to suit the frame material and the wall. If you have mastic that’s falling out in pieces and cold air getting in at the frame edge, we can help.

Across smaller places in Scotland, homes range from stone and harled cottages to newer houses, many standing in the open. Wind-driven rain finds any gap around a frame or sill.

Each job carries a 12-month guarantee.

FAQs for Ardminish

Does the coastal weather in Ardminish affect outside sealant?

Coastal homes put outside sealant through more weather than inland ones, so the choice of sealant and the preparation matter even more. Walls facing the sea are generally the first to need attention.

Is Ardminish within the area you cover?

Yes, Ardminish is covered. Our work covers the whole of Scotland, and smaller places are part of that. Longer journeys are simply planned in advance.

Do you have insurance?

Yes. Full insurance covers our work, and we can confirm the details when we quote.

What should I tell you?

Only a few details: where it is, what you’ve noticed and how we reach it. After that, simply drop us a line at info@mrmastic.co.uk.

Will the old sealant be removed?

Yes. Sealing over the old bead is the commonest cause of early failure, so we never do it.

Will new mastic stop draughts?

Yes, if the air is getting in around the frame. If it’s coming through the window seals, we’ll tell you.

Is it messy?

No. We work neatly, protect the area around the joints and tidy up afterwards.

Is it worth trying it myself?

Sometimes. The key is preparation: remove all the old material and work on a clean, dry joint. If it does not work out, we can redo it.

When to call us in Ardminish

Water runs down the glass onto the sill, and the ends of the sill, where it meets the wall, are where it gets in. When that sealant fails, water gets into the wall or under the frame.

People usually contact us when they notice something like this:

  • Cold air getting in at the frame edge
  • Mastic that is falling out in pieces
  • Gaps left after new windows were fitted
  • A bead that doesn’t match the frame

Around Ardminish, as everywhere, window mastic is only as good as the preparation behind it.

Why it’s worth doing now in Ardminish

Resealing frames is a short job: the visit takes a morning for a couple of windows and a door. Leave it until water is coming in and you may need plastering and decorating as well. Exposed walls in smaller Scottish places take a lot of wind and rain, and damp in stone or harled walls takes a long time to dry once water gets behind a joint.

No two jobs are quite the same, so we quote each one individually. Size, access and the product the joint needs all play a part.

What you get with us

  • Neat joints and a tidy finish
  • 4.9 on Google from 180+ five-star reviews
  • Anti-fungal silicone where joints get wet
  • Homes, businesses and hotels

What sealant work can’t fix

To be straight with you, some problems need a different trade:

  • Worn gaskets, brush seals or a door that has dropped
  • Condensation trapped between the panes
  • Rotten timber, which needs a joiner first

Not sure which it is? You can drop us a line at info@mrmastic.co.uk and we will tell you honestly.

Surfaces we seal

  • uPVC windows
  • Aluminium frames
  • Window sills
  • Composite doors
  • Patio & French doors
  • Timber windows & doors

Surface by surface

Patio & French doors

Not every patio door leak is a mastic problem: blocked drain slots, worn brush seals and threshold details can let water in too. We check before we reseal.

Window sills

Where a sill meets brick or render, the ends often crack first. A tight seal at each end keeps rain out of the wall.

How to look after the new joints

To keep the joints looking good and working properly:

  • Keep solvents and bleach off the sealant
  • Make sure the drainage slots are not blocked
  • Wash the frames with mild soapy water
  • Repaint timber before it’s bare

Try not to touch the new joint while it cures, following the cure time we give you. Keep jet washers away from the frames.

Wet, windy weather is when failed mastic shows itself, but sealant goes on best when frames and walls are dry. Sorting cracked mastic early means the joint is sound before the bad weather.

Windows and doors in Ardminish

Ardminish is within about 3 miles of the coast, and homes near the sea take more wind-driven rain, with salt in the air closer to the shore. That is hard on the mastic around window and door frames, especially on the side facing the sea. Sash and case windows are common in older Scottish homes, and the joint between the box frame and the stone or render is traditionally pointed with sand mastic.

In the older streets around Gigha Parish Church, the joint between an old wall and a newer frame is usually the first place rain gets in.

What happens on the day

The work is kept neat and contained to the area we’re working on, so you can get on with your day. The job usually takes a few hours for a few frames, or a day or more for a whole house, and we tell you how long to leave it before we go. Around Ardminish, distance and access matter more than parking. Tell us how to find the property and how to reach the work.

  1. First we look at every frame and agree the list.
  2. The old mastic is cut out and the surfaces cleaned back.
  3. Where gaps are deep, backing rod goes in first.
  4. New exterior sealant goes on in a matching colour and is tooled smooth.
  5. We clear up and check every joint is fully closed.

How to prepare

  • Clear items away from the joints we are working on
  • Mention if the joints have been sealed before
  • Mention any tricky access
