Need remedial sealant in Glencoe?

Remedial sealant for homes and businesses in Glencoe

In Glencoe, as anywhere, remedial jobs tend to look alike: over-sealed joints, hidden mould, repeat leaks and split movement joints. Each is stripped back and done again properly. Common call-outs are for beads that never stuck properly and a shower that leaks however often it’s resealed, on shrunken worktop sealant, botched or over-sealed joints and mouldy bath & shower sealant.

A bathroom in a place like Glencoe gets the same daily wear as one in a city flat. Generally soft Scottish water means less limescale, but steam still lets mould into sealant and grout.

Every job is covered by a one-year guarantee, wherever you are in Highland.

How it works

Once we’re on site, we compare the joints with what we discussed. If we find something unexpected, we talk it through with you first. After that, the work takes a few hours for a typical bath or shower, longer where several layers have been applied. For a place like Glencoe, longer drives are planned in advance. Tell us about tracks, gates, a ferry crossing or anything unusual about getting there.

  1. First we find out how and where the joint has failed.
  2. We strip the joint completely, removing any layers below.
  3. The joint is cleaned, treated for mould and left to dry.
  4. Where the joint moves, backing and a flexible sealant suited to the movement go in.
  5. We tool the joint and tell you about anything else that needs attention.

How to prepare

  • Keep pets and children clear of the area while we work
  • Try not to wet indoor joints just before the visit
  • Tell us about any previous sealing or DIY attempts

Common problems we fix in Glencoe

Water from somewhere else can ruin a good seal. A slow leak behind the tiles soaks the joint from the back, so the silicone goes mouldy or lets go.

Look out for any of the following:

  • Smears and lumps from a botched reseal
  • Mould trapped under a layer of silicone
  • Sealant peeling off a dusty or damp surface
  • Worktop sealant that has shrunk and split

Around Glencoe, as everywhere, remedial sealant is only as good as the preparation behind it.

FAQs for Glencoe

Is remedial sealant in Glencoe guaranteed?

All our work, in Glencoe and everywhere else, comes with a 12-month guarantee. We are also fully insured and ARBOMaster approved.

Will you come out to Glencoe?

Yes, Glencoe is covered. We work across all of Scotland, from towns to the smallest places. The journey is planned ahead, so it helps to know about access.

Can I choose the sealant colour?

Most of the time, yes. We’ll tell you which colours the right product comes in.

Do you remove the old sealant?

Yes. All of the old material is cut out and the joint cleaned.

Do I need to be at home?

That depends on where the joints are. Inside work needs someone to give us access.

Can failed expansion joints be resealed?

Yes. Where mortar or filler has been used instead of sealant, it’s removed where it can be, then the joint is sealed properly.

Which products do you use?

The product depends on the job: anti-fungal sanitary silicone in wet areas, and other sealants where joints move or face the weather. Brands we use include Arbo and Everbuild.

What does remedial sealant cost?

Every job is different, so each one gets its own quote. To get one, drop us a line at info@mrmastic.co.uk with a short description of the job.

What affects the quote in Glencoe

Every job gets its own quote. This is what makes a difference:

  • The type of sealant required
  • Mould in or behind the old joints
  • Access and height
  • The old material and how stubborn it is

Some things make a job bigger or smaller: how much old sealant there is and how stubborn it is, whether mould needs treating, and whether the work is at height. We take all of that into account in your quote.

Helping us quote

When you contact us, these details help:

  • How many joints, rooms or windows are involved
  • Any access issues, like height or stairs
  • If someone has resealed it before
  • What the problem is, such as mould, gaps, leaks or cracking

Every job is quoted individually. Just drop us a line at info@mrmastic.co.uk with the details and send pictures if you have them.

Why act early in Glencoe

DIY removal often leaves scratches and a film of residue, and the residue left behind stops the next bead bonding. Careful stripping is where most of our time goes. In an older home around Glencoe, damp from a failed joint can get into timber and plaster, which is a far bigger job than the sealant.

Homes and businesses are quoted the same way: how much there is to do, how we reach it and what it needs, along with when we can work on site. Call for a quick quote and we’ll explain what it covers.

What you get with us

  • Old sealant always removed completely
  • Experience in homes, commercial sites and hotels
  • Anti-fungal sanitary silicone in wet areas
  • White, clear, grey or coloured to suit, where the product allows

Honest limits

A few problems are outside what sealant work can do:

  • Water damage behind tiles that needs a tiler
  • Plumbing leaks behind walls or under trays
  • A bath, tray or worktop that moves until it’s properly fixed

If in doubt, send an email to info@mrmastic.co.uk and we’ll say what we think before you book.

Where we work in Glencoe

  • Botched or over-sealed joints
  • Leaking tray & enclosure joints
  • Failed movement joints
  • Expansion joints
  • Mouldy bath & shower sealant
  • Shrunken worktop sealant

Should I try it myself first?

Sealing over old silicone is the commonest DIY error. Silicone does not stick to old silicone, so it lifts and traps water and mould underneath. Everything old must be removed first.

If you’re set on DIY, put the effort into preparation: take out all the old sealant, make sure the joint is clean and dry, and give it the full cure time. If it fails, we can still redo it.

Looking after it afterwards

No joint lasts for ever, but care makes a real difference. A few tips:

  • Do not point over movement joints
  • Check ceilings under showers for marks
  • Do not wait for a small gap to become a leak
  • Ask why a joint failed before redoing it

Where we have pointed out another fault, have it put right, because the new sealant cannot hold back a problem underneath.

A failing joint rarely gets better on its own. Each use pushes more water behind the bead, into floors, walls or ceilings. Early action keeps it to a sealant job.

Remedial sealant in Glencoe: local notes

Glencoe is within about 1 mile of the coast. Near the coast, holiday lets and guest houses can see bathrooms used by one guest after another, and sealant and grout that work that hard wear out sooner. Tired, leaking sealant is worth putting right before a new tenant moves in.

If you live in an older home near Episcopal Church Of St Mary, walls and floors in older homes can move, and sealant and grout show it first.
