Trusted bathroom resealing in Glencoe

Do you need bathroom resealing in Glencoe?

Older sealant shrinks and hardens. In kitchens it often shrinks away from the back edge, opening a hairline gap that lets water and crumbs in. Heat from the hob and strong sprays speed it along.

Signs it’s time to call us include:

  • Splits where the tray meets the wall
  • A reseal done over the top of the old bead
  • Damp behind the bath or under the tray
  • Leaking joints on a shower screen

Around Glencoe, as everywhere, bathroom resealing is only as good as the preparation behind it.

Bathroom resealing for homes and businesses in Glencoe

Before a bath is sealed, it’s filled with water. The weight settles the bath to its lowest point, so the new joint isn’t pulled apart the first time it’s used. Quick jobs often leave it out, and it makes a real difference. We’re often asked to deal with smears of silicone across the tiles and water escaping at the shower enclosure, on kitchen worktops & upstands, sinks & splashbacks and shower trays & enclosures.

Being further from a city doesn’t change the work: old material out, joints cleaned and dried, and a fresh, even finish. We just plan the journey and access beforehand.

All of our work is guaranteed for twelve months, and the guarantee is the same wherever you are.

What happens if it’s left?

The difference in a professional reseal is mostly what you don’t see: removing all the old sealant, degreasing the joint, treating mould and drying it properly. Without that preparation, the new bead will not last. In an older home around Glencoe, damp from a failed joint can get into timber and plaster.

The cost depends on the size of the job, how hard the old material is to remove and access to the work. You will have a clear quote before any work starts.

Why us?

  • More than 20 years in sealant work

When it is not the sealant

Honest advice matters more to us than a booking, so here’s what new sealant will not do:

  • Water getting in through the grout rather than the sealant
  • A cracked shower tray or bath (that needs repair or replacement)
  • Movement from a bath with loose feet or no proper support

If you are not sure, just drop us a line at info@mrmastic.co.uk and we will give you a straight answer before booking.

Surfaces we seal

  • Kitchen worktops & upstands
  • Baths
  • Wet rooms
  • Basins & vanity units
  • Shower trays & enclosures
  • Sinks & splashbacks

Keeping the joints in good condition

Once the sealant has cured, a few habits help it last:

  • Move toiletries away from the joint
  • Use gentle cleaners on the silicone
  • Run the extractor fan during and after every shower
  • Dry the bead with a towel now and then

Mould needs damp, so keep the room aired. Use the fan, or open a window, while you bathe and for a while afterwards, so the bead dries out between uses.

Each shower pushes a little more water through a failed joint. Over time that water reaches floors, walls and ceilings. Early resealing closes the gap before damage is done.

What the job involves on each surface

Baths

Baths move more than any other fitting, so we fill it with water before sealing. The joint is then laid with the bath at its lowest point and isn’t stretched when it’s used.

Sinks & splashbacks

Where a splashback meets the worktop, there’s a joint that catches every splash. It’s resealed in white, clear or a colour to suit.

How it works

Once we’re on site, we check the joints match what you told us. If anything is different, we explain it before carrying on. Most jobs then take around two hours for one bath or shower, longer for a whole bathroom. Outdoor work around Glencoe depends on the weather, as sealant needs a dry surface, so external jobs may need to move if the day turns wet. Work indoors isn’t affected.

  1. We look at every joint first and check for movement or leaks.
  2. Every trace of the old bead is removed, including the thin smear on the tiles.
  3. Joints are degreased and any mould is treated.
  4. With the joint dry, and any bath loaded with water, a single bead of anti-fungal silicone is applied.
  5. The bead is tooled smooth and you’re told the cure time, usually around 24 hours.

How to prepare

  • Tell us about access, such as stairs, a lift or high-level joints
  • Where the joints are inside, avoid wetting them before we arrive
  • Keep children and pets away from the work area

We can use white, clear or a colour to suit. Where the joint is on show, we match it to the surface.

Bathroom resealing in Glencoe: local notes

Glencoe is close to the coast. Coastal homes, holiday lets and guest houses can see heavy bathroom use in busy months, and sealant and grout that work that hard wear out sooner. Private landlords in Scotland must be registered and meet the Repairing Standard, which includes keeping fixtures and fittings in reasonable repair. Tired, leaking sealant is worth putting right before a new tenant moves in.

If you live in an older home near Episcopal Church Of St Mary, bathrooms in older houses have often been refitted more than once, with sealant laid over sealant.

DIY sealant or a professional job?

A careful DIYer can reseal a simple joint, like a short, easy-to-reach joint indoors. The common mistakes are sealing over old sealant, sealing a damp joint and using far too much.

A DIY attempt doesn’t rule out a professional job. We remove it and do the joint properly.
