Capstone Remedial Sealant
Our applicators work in Capstone on removing failed, mouldy or leaking sealant and putting it right. Old material cut out, joints cleaned and sealed neatly and every job guaranteed for a year.
- Floor or wall movement joints that have failed
- Smears and lumps from a botched reseal
- Black mould underneath the bead
About our remedial sealant in Capstone
A joint that keeps failing normally has a reason. A tray that moves, a worktop that isn’t fixed, the wrong sealant or water getting in elsewhere will beat any new bead. Finding that cause comes before any new sealant. Typical jobs include gaps opening along the back of the worktop and leaks that keep coming back after resealing, on expansion joints, mouldy bath & shower sealant and botched or over-sealed joints.
Around Capstone, it’s houses and cottages rather than flats, some with bathrooms tucked into older rooms or extensions. Sealant and grout wear out here just as they do anywhere: everything old comes out before the new sealant or grout goes in.
Big or small, you get the same one-year guarantee in Capstone and across Medway.

Surface by surface
Worktops & kitchens
Shrunken worktop sealant leaves a gap that lets water into the back edge. We strip it, degrease the joint and reseal colour-matched to the worktop.
Windows & doors
A frame that keeps leaking may not be the mastic. If the frame joint is not the cause, we’ll say so.

What affects the cost of remedial sealant
The price is agreed before any work begins. It’s based on:
- Which sealant suits the joint
- Mould in or behind the old joints
- Any working-time requirements on site
- The number and length of the joints
Some things make a job bigger or smaller: the old material and how easily it comes out, any mould to treat, and whether we need extra access for height. Your quote takes all of that into account.
Helping us quote
Photos by email are helpful but not essential. Try to tell us:
- Any access issues, like height or stairs
- Whether it’s a home or a business
- A few photos by email, if you can
- What the problem is, such as mould, gaps, leaks or cracking
Asking for a quote is easy: let us know what needs doing and where. Photos by email help us understand the job.
Common problems we fix in Capstone
Using the wrong product is a common cause: caulk where it gets wet, rigid sealant where things move, or an acetoxy silicone on a surface it can mark. None of them last.
Look out for these signs:
- Caulk or the wrong sealant used in a wet area
- A shower that leaks however often it’s resealed
- Torn expansion joints
- Sealant that came away because the surface wasn’t prepared
Managing a site like Hempstead Infant School? Then washroom and kitchen sealant there needs the same care as at home, and schools and businesses are part of our work as well as homes.
What to look for in a quote
- What the cure time is
- Whether all the old sealant comes out first
- Which sealant they’ll use, and why
- Who turns up on the day
Capstone questions
Is Capstone within the area you cover?
Yes, Capstone is covered. Our work covers London and the South East, and smaller places are part of that. Longer journeys are simply planned in advance.
Is Capstone in your area for remedial sealant?
Yes. We work across London and the South East, and Capstone is part of that. You can phone 0345 464 0079 or email us and let us know what needs doing.
I’m a tenant. Can you help?
Of course. Ask your landlord first, and we can send them the quote if that helps.
Do you guarantee remedial jobs?
Yes. Every job comes with our one-year guarantee.
Do you offer different sealant colours?
Normally, yes. White, clear and grey are common, and other colours are available, and we’ll agree it with you first.
Can failed expansion joints be resealed?
Yes. Failed movement joints are cut out and resealed with backing and a flexible sealant suited to the movement.
Can you remove sealant that is been put over old sealant?
Yes. We cut out all the layers and clean off the film, then the joint is resealed once.
Can you do several jobs on one visit?
Of course. Doing several areas at once is normally more efficient.
The process
A visit follows a simple pattern: we check the joints, protect the area around them, do the work and clear up. Most jobs take a few hours for a typical bath or shower, longer where several layers have been applied. Somewhere like Capstone needs a little journey planning: let us know about lanes, gates and parking. We bring what the job needs, so it can be finished in one trip where possible.
- Surrounding tiles, trays and frames are protected first.
- Every layer of failed sealant is stripped out.
- The joint is degreased and checked for movement and leaks.
- New sealant goes in once the joint is dry, and is tooled smooth.
- You get the cure time and our view on why the joint failed.
Getting ready for the visit
- For indoor joints, keep the area dry beforehand if you can
- Let us know about stairs, lifts or work at height
- For business premises, tell us about site rules or sign-in
Getting a quote
We quote each job on its own, so start by telling us what you need. Just phone 0345 464 0079 or drop us an email with the details, and photos are welcome.
Advice
Should I try it myself first?
The biggest DIY mistake is sealing over old sealant. New silicone will not bond to old, so it lifts and traps water and mould underneath. Everything old must be removed first.
Some jobs are best left to a professional: work at height, external movement joints, fire-rated sealant and large areas call for the right materials, safe access and experience.
Capstone homes and their sealant
Capstone is close to the coast. Near the coast, holiday lets and guest houses can see bathrooms used by one guest after another, which wears sealant and grout out faster than in a quiet home. Hard water is the norm across most of the South East, so limescale builds up on sealant, grout and fittings, and it has to be cleaned off before new sealant goes in.
For an older house near a landmark such as All Saints Church, timber floors under older bathrooms flex, so joints need a sealant that moves with them. For landlords with property near Gillingham (Kent) station, botched sealant from a previous quick fix is easier to strip out between tenants.
Capstone is about 1 mile south-west of Gillingham, in Medway. If you need remedial sealant in Capstone, it’s easy to get a quote: please phone 0345 464 0079 or email us. Honest limits
We’d rather tell you now than do work that won’t last, so these are the limits:
- A tray or worktop that needs refixing first
- Cracks in the fitting rather than the joint
- Leaks from a shower valve, waste or pipework (a plumber’s job)
If in doubt, phone 0345 464 0079 or email us and we’ll say what we think before booking.
