What affects the quote in Capstone

For a quick quote, just ask. The main things that affect it are:

  • How many areas need sealing
  • Working hours on commercial sites
  • Which sealant suits the joint
  • Whether there’s mould to deal with

We don’t show prices on the website, because the cost depends so much on the job itself. For a quick quote, please call 0345 464 0079 or drop us an email.

Fire rated sealant for homes and businesses in Capstone

Where services or frames pass through a fire-resisting wall or floor, the gap around them needs a fire-rated seal. We apply intumescent and fire-rated sealants to the manufacturer’s tested details for each gap, and we can record what went where. We work on pipe & cable gaps, service penetrations and plasterboard & masonry, and people most often call us about door frames with gaps between frame and wall and standard silicone or caulk in a fire-stopping gap.

Work in a small place like Capstone is planned ahead, journey included, so it can be fitted around guests, clients or events where possible.

Whatever the size of the job, you get the same one-year guarantee.

Different surfaces, different methods

Door frames

Our work is the joint between frame and wall. Doors, seals and closers are for a door specialist.

Service penetrations

A copper pipe, a cable and a plastic pipe can all need different fire-stopping details. Each one is sealed to the product’s tested detail.

For landlords and businesses

If you manage several properties in or around Capstone, jobs at different addresses can be quoted together. Just tell us the addresses and what each one needs, and pictures by email help.

Whether it’s one flat or a portfolio, you get the same standard of work: the old material taken out, careful preparation and a 12-month guarantee.

What happens on the day

When we arrive, we start by going over the job with you, so you know exactly what we’re doing. Surfaces next to the work are protected before any work starts. Most jobs take anything from a few hours to several days, depending on how many gaps there are. For a village or hamlet like Capstone, the journey is planned in advance: let us know about lanes, gates and parking. We bring what the job needs, so it can be finished in one trip where possible.

  1. First we work through your list or survey, measuring each gap and checking what it’s formed in.
  2. We remove any old or unsuitable filler and clean the gap.
  3. Backing or fill is fitted where the product’s tested detail calls for it.
  4. Fire-rated or intumescent sealant is applied to the right depth and tooled.
  5. Locations and products are noted so you have them on file.

Before we arrive

  • Let us know about parking restrictions
  • Clear items away from the joints we’re working on
  • Let us know about stairs, lifts or work at height

When something else is needed

Some problems need a builder, plumber or other trade rather than us:

  • Walls or floors that weren’t built to resist fire
  • Large holes that need a different fire-stopping system
  • Certifying a building or signing off its fire safety

Not sure which it is? You can call 0345 464 0079 or drop us an email and we will tell you honestly before you book.

Joints and surfaces we work on

  • Door frames
  • Plasterboard & masonry
  • Linear gaps
  • Flats & HMOs
  • Service penetrations
  • Pipe & cable gaps

Keeping the joints in good condition

Good habits help new joints last longer. Our tips:

  • Photograph sealed gaps before they’re covered up
  • Include fire stopping when you schedule refits
  • Do not fill fire-stopping gaps with ordinary foam or silicone
  • Check whether a sealant can be painted before decorating over it

Include fire stopping in your regular building checks. Watch for cracking, gaps or seals that have been disturbed and have them put right.

Small gaps around services are simple to deal with while there are only a few. Over time, more work adds more holes and the job gets bigger.

Workplaces and buildings in Capstone

If you run a hotel, guest house or holiday let in a coastal place like Capstone, heavy use in the busy months is hard on washroom and kitchen sealant, and any building work there should leave fire-rated joints made good. In England, the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 requires a fire risk assessment for workplaces and for the common parts of blocks of flats, and gaps around services are often picked up there. We work to the specification you’re given, installing the product to its tested details.

Schools such as Hempstead Infant School are buildings too, and fire-stopping around service openings should be restored whenever new services go in. If you look after a church, hall or community building such as All Saints Church, service openings in its walls need the right fire-rated sealant, as in any building. If you let a flat or house near Gillingham (Kent) station, fire-rated sealant around pipes and cables through walls and floors needs making good whenever new services go through.

Capstone is about 1 mile south-west of Gillingham, in Medway. Anywhere in ME7, our applicators can take on fire rated sealant. Our Medway coverage runs to 68 places, Capstone among them. We also work in Chelmsford, about 26 miles from Capstone.

We also cover the places around Capstone: Darland (1 mile north), Hale (1 mile north-west), Hempstead (1 mile south-east), Gillingham (1 mile north-east) and Chatham (1 mile west). We also work in nearby towns such as Rochester (4 miles north-west), Strood (4 miles north-west), Hoo St Werburgh (5 miles north), Rochester Riverside (3 miles north-west), Peters Village (4 miles west) and Brompton (3 miles north-west).

Nearby you will also find Medway Maritime Hospital (1.7 miles north-west) and Pentagon Shopping Centre (2.3 miles north-west). The countryside around Capstone includes Burham Down and Blue Bell Hill.

Where are you based?

Our base is in Crawley, West Sussex, and we work across South East England, London and Scotland.

Yes, we can. More than one area can go on one quote.

Yes, for a year. If anything is not right with the work within the year, let us know and we will sort it.

DIY sealant or a professional job?

Sealing over old silicone is the commonest DIY error. New silicone won’t bond to old, so it lifts and traps water and mould underneath. All the old material has to come out first.

If you do try it yourself, take your time over the preparation: remove every trace of old sealant, clean and dry the joint, and follow the product’s cure time. If it fails, we can still redo it.
