About our regrouting in Tyndrum

Changing the grout colour is a simple way to update tiles. Light grout can go darker to hide marks or back again. Tell us what you have in mind when you ask for a quote. We are often asked to deal with shower grout that has worn away and grout stained black or orange that won’t clean, across bathroom floors, tiled floors and wet rooms.

Being further from a city doesn’t change the work: everything old is cut out, the joints are cleaned and dried, and new sealant or grout goes in. The journey and access are simply planned in advance.

Whatever the size of the job, it’s backed by our 12-month guarantee.

For landlords and businesses

If you manage several properties in or around Tyndrum, jobs at different addresses can be quoted together. Send us the addresses and the work at each, and pictures by email help.

Businesses can book us for washrooms, kitchens, offices and more. For commercial premises, we can talk through working times when we quote.

DIY sealant or a professional job?

Some jobs are best left to a professional: work at height, external movement joints, fire-rated sealant and large areas need the right product, the right access and the right method.

If you’re set on DIY, put the effort into preparation: take out all the old sealant, make sure the joint is clean and dry, and give it the full cure time. If it does not work out, we can still put it right.

Regrouting around Tyndrum

Scottish Water supplies are generally soft, so limescale is less of a problem than in hard-water areas. But mould still grows into sealant and grout in a room that does not dry out. In Scotland, private landlords have to meet the Repairing Standard, which covers keeping fixtures and fittings in a reasonable state of repair. Tired, leaking sealant is worth putting right before a new tenant moves in.

Around Tyndrum, as everywhere, regrouting is only as good as the preparation behind it.

Tyndrum is about 30 miles north of Helensburgh, in Stirling. Wherever you are in the FK20 postcode area, we cover regrouting for homes and businesses. Tyndrum is one of 55 towns and villages in Stirling where we work. Glasgow is on our list too, about 44 miles from Tyndrum.

We work across the FK20 postcode area for regrouting and the streets around it. Neighbouring places we cover for regrouting include Clifton (1 mile north-west), A' Chrìon Làraich (5 miles south-east), Bridge of Orchy (6 miles north), Inverarnan (8 miles south) and Ardlui (10 miles south).

How it works

We bring everything the job needs with us, so there’s nothing for you to buy. After a quick look at the joints together, the area is protected and the work begins. Most jobs take a few hours for a shower enclosure, longer for a whole room. Somewhere like Tyndrum may be a longer drive, and the journey is planned ahead. Tell us about tracks, gates, a ferry crossing or anything unusual about getting there.

  1. We start by checking the tiles for any that are loose or hollow.
  2. We rake out the old grout to an even depth, taking care of the tile edges.
  3. We vacuum the joints and clean out the dust.
  4. We fill the joints with new grout, then clean the tiles.
  5. The corners and edges get new silicone, because grout there would crack.

Getting ready for the visit

  • Tell us about any previous sealing or DIY attempts
  • Where the joints are inside, avoid wetting them before we arrive

When to call us in Tyndrum

A bathroom that stays damp keeps the grout wet, giving mould a place to grow. Black marks that come back after cleaning are often in the grout itself.

The most common problems we see are:

  • Old grout in a dated colour
  • Gaps where the shower grout has gone
  • Corners filled with grout instead of silicone
  • Grout that makes sound tiles look old

Letting a property close to Tyndrum Lower station? Then clean grout and fresh sealant between tenancies make a bathroom look cared for again.

10 questions to ask before you book

How we quote for regrouting

Some jobs are bigger than they look, and some smaller. The main factors:

  • The amount of work
  • Access and height
  • When we can work, for business premises
  • Which sealant suits the joint

What it costs depends on the size of the job, how hard the old material is to remove and how easy the joints are to reach. We give a clear quote before work begins, so you know where you stand.

What we need to know

Photos help, but a description is a good start. Try to tell us:

  • A few pictures by email, if you can
  • What’s wrong with the joints now
  • Whether it’s a home or a business
  • Whether it has been sealed before

We quote each job on its own. Simply drop us a line at info@mrmastic.co.uk and describe the job, and pictures are welcome.

Your questions about regrouting in Tyndrum

Is Tyndrum in your area for regrouting?

Yes, Tyndrum is within the area we cover. We work across all of Scotland. Just send an email to info@mrmastic.co.uk with a few details of the job.

Do you cover smaller places like Tyndrum?

Yes, we do. Our work covers the whole of Scotland, and smaller places are part of that. The journey is planned ahead, so it helps to know about access.

Can you regrout if a few tiles are loose?

If tiles are loose, something behind them has generally failed. Grout on its own won’t fix that, and we’ll tell you before any work starts.

Do you work for landlords and businesses?

Yes, often. Several properties can go on one quote, and between tenancies is a good time for the work.

Do you work for hotels and businesses?

Yes. We’ve worked for hotels, offices and other businesses and we are fully insured.

Can you seal over the old sealant?

No, it won’t last. It may look fine at first, but the new layer lifts away from the old one. Removing the old sealant completely is the only lasting way.

Is resealing included with regrouting?

Usually, yes. Corners and edges need flexible silicone, and it makes sense to renew both together.

Where do you work from?

We work from Crawley. Our applicators cover Tyndrum.

Why it’s worth doing now in Tyndrum

New grout smeared over the old does not bond well. A thin skin on top tends to break off. Removing the old grout to an even depth lets the new grout key in properly. Exposed walls in smaller Scottish places take a lot of wind and rain, and once water gets behind a failed joint, damp in stone or harled walls is slow to dry out.

Combining jobs into one visit generally makes better use of the time than several visits, so tell us about everything that needs sealing. You will get one clear quote for the whole job.

How to look after the new joints

To keep the joints looking good and working properly:

  • Rinse the tiles after showering
  • Keep the fan on after showering
  • Stick to mild products for cleaning grout
  • Wipe water off the walls when you’re done

Leave the area unused for as long as we advise, so it can harden properly. After that, rinse the tiles after showering and let the room air.

Fixing grout early is a small job. Left for a few years, they can become a leak, so get it looked at when you notice it.
