Bathroom floors

If floor grout keeps cracking, the floor may be moving. We look for loose tiles first.

Shower walls

Shower walls get wet every day, so grout there works hardest. It’s often the first place grout washes out.

About our regrouting in Inverarnan

Our applicators rake out the old grout to an even depth, taking care not to chip the tile edges. After vacuuming, new grout goes in and the tiles are wiped clean, and the corners get fresh silicone. We work on tiled floors, bathroom floors and shower walls, and people most often call us about shower grout that has worn away and crumbling grout between the tiles.

In and around a place like Inverarnan, homes range from older stone-built properties to newer houses. Where a building moves, cracked grout and split sealant are normally the first signs.

A 12-month guarantee comes with the work, just as it does everywhere we cover.

The process

Good joint work is mostly preparation, and we don’t rush it. Joints are cleaned back and dried before anything new goes in. In total, it generally takes a few hours for a shower enclosure, longer for a whole room. Outdoor work around Inverarnan depends on the weather, as sealant needs a dry surface, so an outdoor job can move if the forecast changes. Work indoors isn’t affected.

  1. Every tile area is checked for hollow or loose tiles first.
  2. We rake out the grout evenly, protecting the tile edges.
  3. The joints are vacuumed clean.
  4. New grout is pressed into the joints and the tiles are cleaned.
  5. Silicone goes into the corners and along the edges.

How to prepare

  • Mention any sign-in or site rules at work premises
  • Tell us about access, such as stairs, a lift or high-level joints
  • Try not to wet indoor joints just before the visit

Advice

Quotes for regrouting in Inverarnan

We don’t publish a price list, because jobs vary so much. The quote depends on:

  • Access and height
  • How much there is to do
  • Any working-time requirements on site
  • The type of sealant required

Commercial jobs are quoted on the same basis as homes: the amount of work, the access and the products needed. Call for a quick quote and we’ll go through it with you.

What we need to know

To help us quote quickly, let us know:

  • Whether it’s a home or a business
  • What’s wrong with the joints now
  • If someone has resealed it before
  • A few pictures by email, if you can

A good description makes for an accurate quote. Tell us where the job is, what’s wrong and how much there is, and email photos if that is easy.

Regrouting around Inverarnan

In Scotland, private landlords have to meet the Repairing Standard, which covers keeping fixtures and fittings in a reasonable state of repair. Failed sealant around a bath or shower is worth sorting between tenancies. Scotland’s water is generally soft, so sealant and grout see less limescale than in much of England. Mould is another matter: a bathroom that stays damp still turns sealant and grout black.

If you let a flat or house near Ardlui station, a regrout while the flat is empty is quicker than working around a tenant. If you live in an older home near Ardlui Church, bathrooms in older houses have often been refitted more than once, with sealant laid over sealant.

Inverarnan: your questions answered

Do you work for landlords with property near Ardlui station?

Yes. We work for landlords and agents as well as householders, and several properties can be quoted together. You can drop us a line at info@mrmastic.co.uk with the details for a clear quote.

Do you cover smaller places like Inverarnan?

Yes, smaller places are covered as well as towns. We work across all of Scotland. Let us know about access, parking and anything unusual about getting there when you book.

Is resealing included with regrouting?

We usually do. Fresh grout next to old, mouldy silicone would look odd and could still leak.

Will you leave a mess?

No. The area is protected while we work and cleaned up afterwards.

How long does regrouting take?

Most jobs take anything from a few hours to a full day, depending on the area, including preparation and clearing up. Your quote will say how long we expect yours to take.

Can you quote for more than one area?

Yes. Just list everything you need and you’ll get one quote.

Do you regrout part of a bathroom, like the shower?

Yes, that’s common. Shower grout tends to go before the rest, so many people regrout just that part.

Will there be a smell?

Possibly a little. It fades as the sealant cures.

DIY sealant or a professional job?

A DIY attempt doesn’t rule out a professional job. We remove it and do the joint properly.

What a professional job adds is preparation and the right product. We take joints back to clean, dry surfaces, and the sealant is chosen for how the joint moves and where it is.

When it isn’t the sealant

Honest advice matters more to us than a booking, so here’s what sealant cannot fix:

  • A leaking wet room membrane
  • Tiles that have come away from the wall
  • Tiles that are chipped or split

If in doubt, send an email to info@mrmastic.co.uk and we’ll say what we think.

Surfaces we seal

  • Bathroom floors
  • Wet rooms
  • Tiled floors
  • Kitchen splashbacks
  • Shower walls
  • Bathroom wall tiles

What happens if it’s left?

Regrouting keeps the tiles you already have. Retiling means stripping the walls, making good and choosing new tiles, and the room is out of use for longer. If the tiles are sound, regrouting is the simpler fix. Exposed walls in smaller Scottish places take a lot of wind and rain, and damp in stone or harled walls takes a long time to dry once water gets behind a joint.

A failed joint rarely gets cheaper to fix by waiting, because water and mould keep working on it. If you’re not sure whether it needs doing, email us at info@mrmastic.co.uk for an honest opinion and a quote.
