Regrouting in The Hummicks, Hampshire
Regrouting for The Hummicks and the surrounding area: careful preparation, the right product and tidy work. Call for a quick quote.
- Floor grout that won’t come clean
- Shower grout that has worn away
- Corners filled with grout instead of silicone
DIY versus a professional finish
The difference is mostly in the preparation and the product. Joints are cleaned back to sound surfaces and dried, and the sealant is matched to the joint and its conditions.
Not every job suits DIY: work at height, external movement joints, fire-rated sealant and large areas call for the right materials, safe access and experience.
Regrouting in The Hummicks, done properly
We take the old grout out to a consistent depth, without damaging the edges of the tiles. The joints are then vacuumed, regrouted and cleaned off, and the corners get fresh silicone. We work on shower walls, bathroom floors and kitchen splashbacks, and people most often call us about shower grout that has worn away and cracked grout along the bath or tray.
Being in a small place like The Hummicks makes no difference to the job itself: the journey and access are simply agreed in advance. In the bathroom or kitchen, the work is the same as in any town.
All of our work is guaranteed for twelve months, and the guarantee is the same wherever you are.

Your questions about regrouting in The Hummicks
Do you work for hotels and guest houses in The Hummicks?
Yes, we work for hotels as well as homes and businesses. A room-by-room programme keeps most rooms in use while the work goes on.
Do you cover smaller places like The Hummicks?
Yes. The Hummicks is within the area we cover, which takes in towns, villages and rural addresses. We work across London and the South East. Just mention lanes, gates or anything else about the route when you book.
Does someone need to be in?
That depends on where the joints are. For work indoors, someone needs to let us in, while outside work can sometimes be arranged differently.
Do you remove the old sealant?
Yes. All of the old material is cut out and the joint cleaned before applying anything new.
Are you ARBOMaster approved?
Yes. We’re approved under the ARBOMaster scheme.
Will it make a mess?
Very little: the area around the joints is protected first, and we clear up the old sealant and our materials before we leave.
Can you seal over the old sealant?
No, and we never do. It may look fine at first, but the new layer lifts away from the old one. Removing the old sealant completely is the only lasting way.
Can you do several jobs on one visit?
Yes. More than one area can go on one quote.
Common problems we fix in The Hummicks
Strong cleaning products and hard scrubbing slowly erode grout. Bleach and acidic limescale removers can attack it with repeated use, leaving the joints sunken and rough.
People normally contact us after spotting one of these:
- Grout that’s cracking and breaking up
- Greasy, stained grout behind the hob
- Corners filled with grout instead of silicone
- Floor grout that will not come clean
For an older house near a landmark such as Church of the Blessed Virgin and Child, older homes can move a little, which is hard on rigid grout and tired sealant.
What your quote should include
- Whether all the old sealant comes out first
- The length of the guarantee
- Whether VAT is included
- When the joint can take water or movement
How it works
We bring everything the job needs with us, so there’s nothing for you to buy. After a quick look at the joints together, we protect the area and start. Most jobs take a few hours for a shower enclosure, longer for a whole room. In a small place like The Hummicks, access is generally the main thing to plan. For outside work, also let us know about exposed walls and any outbuildings involved.
- We check the tiles are sound and flag any that are loose or hollow.
- Old grout is raked out to a consistent depth without chipping the tiles.
- The joints are vacuumed and cleaned.
- New grout is worked into the joints and cleaned off the tile faces.
- Corners and edges are resealed with flexible silicone, not grout.
Getting ready for the visit
- Tell us about any previous sealing or DIY attempts
- Tell us about access, such as stairs, a lift or high-level joints
- For indoor joints, keep the area dry beforehand if you can

Regrouting in The Hummicks: local notes
The Hummicks is close to the coast. Near the coast, holiday lets and guest houses can see bathrooms used by one guest after another, and sealant and grout that work that hard wear out sooner. Hard water is the norm across most of the South East, so limescale builds up on sealant, grout and fittings.
If you let a flat or house near Beaulieu Road station, clean grout and fresh sealant between tenancies make a bathroom look cared for again. If you look after a building such as Beaulieu Village Primary School, its toilets, changing areas and kitchens need their sealant renewed like any other building’s.

Why it’s worth doing now in The Hummicks
Regrouting keeps the tiles you already have. Retiling means stripping the walls, making good and choosing new tiles, and the room is out of use for longer. If the tiles are sound, regrouting is the simpler fix. Older cottages and farmhouses around The Hummicks can have timber floors and frames, and water through a failed joint can rot timber if it’s left.
A few things move the cost up or down: how much old sealant there is and how stubborn it is, whether mould needs treating, and whether we need extra access for height. Your quote takes all of that into account.

Looking after it afterwards
Once the sealant has cured, a few habits help it last:
- Open a window or run the fan to clear steam
- Clean grout with a mild bathroom cleaner
- Wipe or squeegee the shower walls
- Don’t use strong acidic cleaners on grout
Leave the area unused for as long as we advise, so it can harden properly. From then on, a quick rinse after showering helps and keep the room ventilated.
If grout in the shower is washing out, act soon. Each shower drives water into the open joints and it can end up in the wall or the ceiling below.
