Regrouting in Test Valley

Regrouting in Test Valley

If you’ve been scrubbing grout that will not come clean, the discolouration has generally soaked into the grout. Replacing it is the lasting answer, and it’s a chance to change the colour too. We work on wet rooms, bathroom wall tiles and bathroom floors, and the jobs we see most are corners filled with grout instead of silicone and old grout in a dated colour.

Homes around Test Valley are mostly houses and cottages rather than flats. The work is the same as anywhere: old material cut out, joints cleaned and a fresh finish laid.

A one-year guarantee comes with the work, just as it does everywhere we cover.

Bathrooms and kitchens in Test Valley

Hard water is the norm across most of the South East, so limescale builds up on sealant, grout and fittings, and it has to be cleaned off before new sealant goes in.

In and around Test Valley, as anywhere, good regrouting starts with a clean, dry, properly prepared joint.

Do you need regrouting in Test Valley?

When tiles or the wall behind them move, the grout cracks. Loose tiles, bouncy floors and timber walls can all do it, so we check the tiles before we start.

Keep an eye out for any of the following:

  • Greasy, stained grout behind the hob
  • Discoloured grout on otherwise sound tiles
  • Floor grout that has worn and darkened
  • Shower grout that has worn away

In the older streets around Church of St James, bathrooms in older houses have often been refitted more than once, with sealant laid over sealant.

FAQs for Test Valley

Is Test Valley in your area for regrouting?

Yes, Test Valley is within the area we cover. Our work covers London and the South East. You can ring 0345 464 0079 or send us an email and tell us what needs doing.

Do you cover smaller places like Test Valley?

Yes, we do. We work across London and the South East, and smaller places are part of that. Longer journeys are simply planned in advance.

Can new sealant go over the old?

No. Fresh sealant does not stick to old sealant, and anything trapped underneath, including mould and water, stays there. We remove it all first.

Do I have to be there?

For indoor joints, yes, someone needs to let us in. Once we have agreed the job, you do not need to watch us work.

Are you an approved applicator?

Yes. We hold ARBOMaster approved applicator status.

Can you regrout if a few tiles are loose?

Regrouting will not fix loose tiles. We flag any loose or hollow tiles before starting, so you can decide what to do.

How soon can the shower be used after regrouting?

The wait depends on the materials and how warm the room is. We will give you a time to follow when the job is done.

How long does regrouting take?

Typically it takes a few hours for a shower enclosure, longer for a whole room. Larger jobs naturally take longer.

What the job involves on each surface

Corners and edges

The joint between tiles and a bath, tray or worktop gets silicone. Grout in that joint wouldn’t last.

Shower walls

Showers put more water on grout than anywhere else. We rake it out and regrout and renew the silicone at the edges.

Landlords, agents and businesses in Test Valley

From a single let to a portfolio, the work is the same standard: old sealant fully removed, joints prepared properly and a 12-month guarantee.

Letting agents often deal with us directly. Tell us the address, the job and how access works and we will quote.

What affects the quote in Test Valley

We quote each job individually. This is what makes a difference:

  • Whether the work is at height
  • How many rooms, windows or areas are involved
  • The size of the job
  • How much old sealant there is and how hard it is to remove

No two jobs are quite the same, so each one gets its own quote. Size, access and the product the joint needs all make a difference.

What we need to know

Photos by email are helpful but not essential. Please mention:

  • The rough size of the job
  • Any previous sealing or DIY work
  • The type of property
  • A few photos by email, if you can

We don’t publish a price list, because every job is different. Instead, we send you a clear quote for your job. To arrange one, call 0345 464 0079 or drop us an email.

What we cannot put right

Some problems need a builder, plumber or other trade rather than us:

  • A leaking shower valve or waste
  • Damaged tiles that need replacing
  • Tiles that are loose or hollow behind

If you are not sure, just call 0345 464 0079 or email us and we’ll give you a straight answer.

  • Bathroom floors
  • Tiled floors
  • Kitchen splashbacks
  • Shower walls
  • Wet rooms

DIY sealant or a professional job?

Sealing over old silicone is the commonest DIY error. New silicone won’t bond to old, so it lifts and traps water and mould underneath. All the old material has to come out first.

What a professional job adds is preparation and the right product. We take joints back to clean, dry surfaces, and the sealant is chosen for how the joint moves and where it is, then guaranteed for a year.

The process

There’s no need to move everything out before we come, just the space around the work. We protect the rest, and the job takes anything from a few hours to a full day, depending on the area for a typical job. Somewhere like Test Valley needs a little journey planning: tell us about narrow lanes, gates, long drives and where we can park. We bring what the job needs, so it can be finished in one trip where possible.

  1. First we agree what’s being done and flag any loose tiles.
  2. Grout is raked out without chipping the tiles.
  3. The joints are cleaned out and vacuumed.
  4. We grout the joints and wipe the tiles clean.
  5. Internal corners and edges are resealed.

Preparing for the visit

  • Move anything stored near the joints
  • Keep pets and children clear of the area while we work
  • Where the joints are inside, avoid wetting them before we arrive
