Regrouting in Ashmansworth

Regrouting in Ashmansworth, done properly

We take the old grout out to a consistent depth, without damaging the edges of the tiles. After vacuuming, new grout goes in and the tiles are wiped clean, and the corners get fresh silicone. We work on tiled floors, bathroom wall tiles and shower walls, and the jobs we see most are kitchen splashback grout stained by grease and grout that stays dark however much it’s cleaned.

Around Ashmansworth, it’s houses and cottages rather than flats. The work is the same as anywhere: everything old comes out before the new sealant or grout goes in.

We guarantee the work for a year. If there’s a problem with our work within the year, let us know and we’ll sort it.

Why it’s worth doing now in Ashmansworth

Once grout cracks, water can get behind the tiling. Leave it, and the adhesive or the wall behind can suffer, and then you’re looking at retiling. Sorting it early keeps the job simple. Where a wall is exposed, as many are in small places like Ashmansworth, wind-driven rain gets into any failed joint, and older walls, once damp, take a long time to dry.

Every job is a little different, so each one gets its own quote. Size, access and the product the joint needs all play a part.

Do I have to be there?

We need access to the joints, so we’ll agree that with you when we book. For inside work, that normally means someone being in.

We are happy to deal with the tenant, landlord or agent. Get your landlord’s agreement first.

What do you need from me for a quote?

The location, the problem and the rough size of the job. If you can, email a few pictures.

Can I do it myself?

That depends on the joint. Work at height, movement joints, fire-rated gaps and large areas are best left to a professional, while a short indoor joint may be within reach.

  • The number and length of the joints
  • Whether old sealant or filler has to be cut out
  • The product the joint needs
  • How easy the joints are to reach

Helping us quote

You do not need to know the technical terms. Just tell us:

  • How many joints, rooms or windows are involved
  • Whether it has been sealed before
  • The type of property

What we’re called out for in Ashmansworth

Strong cleaning products and hard scrubbing slowly erode grout. Bleach and acidic limescale removers can attack it with repeated use, leaving the joints sunken and rough.

Signs it’s time to call us include:

  • Good tiles let down by tired grout
  • Cracked or crumbling grout lines
  • Gaps where the shower grout has gone
  • Grout in a colour the owner wants to change

In and around Ashmansworth, as anywhere, good regrouting starts with a clean, dry, properly prepared joint.

What the job involves on each surface

Bathroom floors

Floor grout takes foot traffic as well as water. It wears and darkens over time.

Wet rooms

New grout in a wet room keeps the surface sound. It does not repair failed tanking underneath.

What happens on the day

We keep the work tidy and contained to the joints we’re treating, so you can get on with your day. The job generally takes a few hours for a shower enclosure, longer for a whole room, and we explain the cure time before we leave. Somewhere like Ashmansworth needs a little journey planning: tell us about narrow lanes, gates, long drives and where we can park. Everything for the job comes with us, so a second trip is avoided where possible.

  1. We agree the area to be regrouted and point out any loose tiles.
  2. Grout is raked out without chipping the tiles.
  3. Dust is cleared from every joint.
  4. The new grout goes in, then the tile faces are cleaned.
  5. We renew the silicone at the corners and edges.

Preparing for the visit

  • Clear the area around the work
  • Mention if the joints have been sealed before
  • Plan for the work area to be out of bounds to pets and children

The biggest DIY mistake is sealing over old sealant. New silicone won’t bond to old, so it lifts and traps water and mould underneath. Everything old must be removed first.

Too much sealant is as bad as too little. A heavy bead looks messy and copes badly with movement, and getting the depth right matters as much as the look.
