Regrouting in Newbury
Stained, crumbling or cracked grout can make a sound bathroom look tired. Regrouting replaces the grout and keeps the tiles you have, so nothing is ripped out. We work on bathroom wall tiles, bathroom floors and kitchen splashbacks, and people most often call us about shower grout that has worn away and grout that stays dark however much it’s cleaned.
Newbury mixes older houses with estates built more recently, and bathrooms range from decades-old suites to brand-new ones. Whatever their age, sealant and grout tend to go before anything else.
All of our work is guaranteed for twelve months.

What regrouting looks like in Newbury
Most of the South East has hard water, so limescale builds up on sealant, grout and fittings, and it has to be cleaned off before new sealant goes in. Newbury has hotels and guest accommodation nearby. As well as homes, we work in hotel bathrooms, where resealing and regrouting can be done room by room.
For site and facilities teams at buildings such as St Nicolas C.E. Junior School, we reseal washrooms and kitchens in schools and businesses as well as homes. For landlords with property near Newbury station, clean grout and fresh sealant between tenancies make a bathroom look cared for again. If you live in an older home near St Nicolas Church, bathrooms in older houses have often been refitted more than once, with sealant laid over sealant.

Surface by surface
Bathroom wall tiles
Whole bathroom walls can be regrouted in one visit or more, depending on the area. You can change the colour at the same time.
Wet rooms
Wet rooms have water across the floor, so good grout is important. We check the tiles first.
Keeping the joints in good condition
After the cure time, these simple habits help:
- Use gentle cleaners on grout
- Don’t use strong acidic cleaners on grout
- Give the walls a quick rinse after use
- Wipe water off the walls when you are done
We’ll tell you when the area can be used again. Please follow it, and go gently on the grout at first.
Tiles can come away if failed grout is left. By then, new grout alone isn’t enough, so it’s worth acting early.

Yes, rental work is part of what we do. You can ring 0345 464 0079 or send us an email with the address and a few details, and we will give you a fixed price before work begins.

How much does regrouting cost in Newbury?
There’s no set price, as it depends on the job: its size, the old material, access and the product needed. We agree the price before any work begins.
Do you work in Newbury?
Yes. We work in Newbury. To book, call 0345 464 0079 or drop us an email.
Where do you work from?
Mr Mastic is based in Crawley. Our applicators cover Newbury, along with the rest of our area.
Do you remove the old sealant?
Always. Sealing over the old bead is the commonest cause of early failure, so we never do it.
Is it possible to regrout only the shower area?
Yes. A lot of our jobs are only the shower, or just the joints that have failed.
Will you leave a mess?
Not at all. We work neatly, protect the area around the joints and tidy up afterwards.
What affects the cost of regrouting
We do not publish a price list, because jobs vary so much. What we look at:
- How many areas need sealing
- Whether old sealant or filler has to be cut out
- The size of the job
- Mould in or behind the old joints
No two jobs are quite the same, so each one gets its own quote. The number of joints, how easy they are to reach and the sealant needed all play a part.
What to tell us for a quote
There’s no need for technical detail. It helps if you can tell us:
- How we’d reach the joints
- What’s wrong with the joints now
- Whether it’s a home or a business
- The address or postcode of the job
We do not publish a price list. Instead, your job gets its own clear quote. To arrange one, call 0345 464 0079 or send us an email.
The process
Our applicators work methodically: protect, prepare, seal, tidy. Typically it takes anything from a few hours to a full day, depending on the area, and the area is left clean. Parking in a town like Newbury is usually straightforward, but tell us if there’s a driveway or any restrictions, and let us know if the work is upstairs, in a flat or up high outside.
- Every tile area is checked for hollow or loose tiles first.
- The old grout is removed to an even depth.
- The joints are vacuumed clean.
- We regrout the joints and clean the tile faces.
- We finish with silicone in the moving joints.
Getting ready for the visit
- Let us know if you’ve seen damp or leaks
- Let us know about earlier repairs to the joints
- For business premises, tell us about site rules or sign-in

Leave it or put it right?
Grout pens and paint-on colourants only cover the surface. They don’t fill cracks or stop water and stains often come back through. Raking out and regrouting replaces the grout itself. Gaps in sealant and mould in the bead never get better on their own, and in a busy household in Newbury they spread with every shower and every downpour. Now is the easy time to put it right.
Instead of a standard rate, we look at what your job involves: the amount of work, the old material and the access. The price is agreed before we begin.

Can I do it myself?
The difference is mostly in the preparation and the product. Joints are cleaned back to sound surfaces and dried, and the sealant is matched to the joint and its conditions, then guaranteed for a year.
Sealing over old silicone is the commonest DIY error. New silicone will not bond to old, so it lifts and traps water and mould underneath. Everything old must be removed first.
