Regrouting in Streat, done properly

Regrouting suits shower walls, bathroom floors, kitchen splashbacks and wet rooms. It can be a full room, or just the area that has failed. Either way, tiled areas in Streat are handled the same careful way. We work on kitchen splashbacks, wet rooms and shower walls, and the jobs we see most are corners filled with grout instead of silicone and grout stained black or orange that won’t clean.

Somewhere as small as Streat, homes tend to be cottages, farmhouses or converted buildings, with some newer houses too. Movement in older walls and floors tends to show first as cracked grout or split sealant.

There’s a 12-month guarantee on every job, large or small.

What regrouting looks like in Streat

Hard water is the norm across most of the South East, which leaves limescale on sealant, grout and fittings.

If you look after a building such as Plumpton Primary School, we reseal washrooms and kitchens in schools and businesses as well as homes. Letting a property close to Plumpton station? Then stained grout drags a rental down, and regrouting between lets puts that right.

Streat is about 3 miles south-east of Burgess Hill, in West Sussex. Whether you are in the middle of Streat or further out, we cover regrouting for every kind of property. Streat is one of 371 places in West Sussex where we work for regrouting. There’s also a page for Brighton, about 6 miles away.

We cover every part of the BN6 and BN7 postcode area for regrouting and the streets around it. If you’re just outside Streat, we cover Plumpton (1 mile south-east), Plumpton Green (1 mile north-east), East Chiltington (1 mile east), Ditchling Common (2 miles north) and Chiltington (2 miles east). We also work in nearby towns such as Crawley (14 miles north), Horsham (15 miles north-west), Worthing (15 miles south-west), Haywards Heath (6 miles north), Burgess Hill (3 miles north-west) and East Grinstead (15 miles north).

When to call us in Streat

A bathroom that stays damp keeps the grout wet, and damp grout is where mould grows. When black spots keep returning, the mould has normally got into the grout.

Signs it’s time to call us include:

  • Cracked or crumbling grout lines
  • Grout stained black or orange that will not clean
  • Gaps where the shower grout has gone
  • Dirty, worn grout on a tiled floor

If you live in an older home near Streat Church, bathrooms in older houses have often been refitted more than once, with sealant laid over sealant.

How to choose a mastic man

For landlords and businesses

Hotels need rooms back in use, so we plan the work room by room around your bookings where we can. Hotel work is part of what we do, alongside homes and businesses.

Whether it’s one flat or a portfolio, you get the same standard of work: old sealant fully removed, joints prepared properly and a 12-month guarantee.

What sealant work can’t fix

New sealant can’t fix everything, and we will tell you before we start. It won’t solve:

  • Damaged tiles that need replacing
  • A leaking shower valve or waste
  • Failed tanking or waterproofing under the tiles

Not sure which it is? You can call 0345 464 0079 or email us and we’ll tell you honestly.

What we seal

  • Wet rooms
  • Kitchen splashbacks
  • Bathroom floors
  • Bathroom wall tiles
  • Shower walls
  • Tiled floors

DIY sealant or a professional job?

Sealing over old silicone is the commonest DIY error. New silicone won’t bond to old, so it peels away and traps moisture behind it. All the old material has to come out first.

If you’ve already had a go yourself, that is fine. We cut it out and start again, so just mention it when you contact us.

Looking after it afterwards

How long the joints last depends on use and care. We suggest:

  • Wipe water off the walls when you’re done
  • Do not use strong acidic cleaners on grout
  • Look at the sealant in the corners now and then
  • Use gentle cleaners on grout

Wipe the tiles down after a shower stops soap and water sitting on the grout. Ventilate the room well so the grout dries between uses.

Leaving failed grout can mean tiles come loose. Once that happens, regrouting will not fix it so early action pays.

What the job involves on each surface

Bathroom floors

New floor grout makes a big difference to how a bathroom looks. The edges where floor meets wall or bath get silicone.

Wet rooms

New grout in a wet room keeps the surface sound. It does not repair failed tanking underneath.

Will the old sealant be removed?

Yes, every time. New silicone doesn’t stick to old silicone, so the joint is cleaned back first.

What happens on the day

At the end, we look at the finished work together. The visit itself generally takes a few hours for a shower enclosure, longer for a whole room, depending on the size of the job. Somewhere like Streat needs a little journey planning: let us know about lanes, gates and parking. Everything for the job comes with us, so a second trip is avoided where possible.

  1. We check the tiles for any that are hollow or loose.
  2. The old grout is removed to an even depth.
  3. The joints are vacuumed clean.
  4. New grout is pressed into the joints and the tiles are cleaned.
  5. We finish with silicone in the moving joints.

Getting ready for the visit

  • Tell us if parking is tricky
  • Try not to wet indoor joints just before the visit
  • Let us know if you’ve seen damp or leaks
