Regrouting near St Ives

Regrouting for homes and businesses in St Ives

We check the tiles before any grout comes out. If any tiles are loose or sound hollow, we tell you, since new grout can’t fix a problem underneath. With sound tiles, regrouting is a tidy, lasting improvement. If you’re dealing with cracked grout along the bath or tray and greasy, stained grout behind the hob, we can put it right.

For a small place like St Ives, regrouting is planned like any other job: it just means planning the journey and access beforehand. Once we are there, the bathroom or kitchen gets the same care as anywhere else.

All of our work is guaranteed for twelve months, in St Ives and everywhere else we cover.

What happens if it’s left?

Grouting over old grout rarely lasts. A thin skin on top tends to break off, taking any repair with it. Raking out to a consistent depth gives the new grout something to hold. Where a wall is exposed, as many are in small places like St Ives, wind-driven rain gets into any failed joint, and older walls, once damp, take a long time to dry.

There are no prices on our website, because the cost depends so much on the job itself. For a quick quote, please ring 0345 464 0079 or email us.

Bathrooms and kitchens in St Ives

Most of the South East has hard water, which leaves limescale on sealant, grout and fittings, and it has to be cleaned off before new sealant goes in.

For site and facilities teams at buildings such as St Ives Primary & Nursery School, we reseal washrooms and kitchens in schools and businesses as well as homes.

Common problems we fix in St Ives

Some grout fails because it was mixed or laid badly. If it was mixed too wet or not pressed in firmly can wash out within a few years.

Look out for any of the following:

  • Cracked grout along the bath or tray
  • Old grout in a dated colour
  • Stained grout that cleaning won’t shift
  • Greasy, stained grout behind the hob

If you live in an older home near All Saints, bathrooms in older houses have often been refitted more than once, with sealant laid over sealant.

Questions to ask before booking

  • Which colour the sealant will be
  • What happens if they find a problem under the old sealant
  • How long the guarantee is
  • Whether VAT is included

Our hiring checklist

Surface by surface

Kitchen splashbacks

The grout by the hob and sink takes most of the mess. We regroute and reseal the worktop joint.

Corners and edges

Where tiles meet a bath, tray or worktop, the joint is sealed. Grout there would crack.

How we quote for regrouting

Your quote is based on your job. We look at:

  • When we can work, for business premises
  • Any mould that needs treating
  • How much there is to do
  • The number of rooms or windows

The cost reflects the work involved, not a rough estimate. That is why we ask about the job first and give you a clear price before work begins.

What to tell us for a quote

To make quoting easier, please include:

  • Where the job is, and your postcode
  • Whether it’s a home or a business
  • Any previous sealing or DIY work
  • How we’d reach the joints

There’s no standard price list, as no two jobs are quite the same. Instead, your job gets its own clear quote. To arrange one, ring 0345 464 0079 or drop us an email.

Questions from St Ives

Will you come out to St Ives?

Yes. St Ives is within the area we cover, which takes in towns, villages and rural addresses. Our work covers London and the South East. Let us know about access, parking and anything unusual about getting there when you book.

Is there a guarantee on regrouting in St Ives?

Every job comes with our 12-month guarantee, wherever it is. We’re also fully insured and ARBOMaster approved.

Do you work for landlords and businesses?

Yes. As well as homeowners, we work for landlords, agents, businesses and hotels across Hampshire.

How long will you be here?

That depends on the amount of work, but most jobs take a few hours for a shower enclosure, longer for a whole room. We’ll give you a better idea when we quote.

Can you regrout just the shower?

Yes, that’s common. Shower grout tends to go before the rest, so it’s often the only area that needs doing.

Will you leave a mess?

Not at all. The area is protected while we work and cleaned up afterwards.

Which products do you use?

It depends on the joint: anti-fungal sanitary silicone in wet areas, and other sealants where joints move or face the weather. Brands we use include Arbo and Everbuild.

Can tenants book the work?

Yes. Ask your landlord first, and we can send them the quote if that helps.

DIY sealant or a professional job?

If you are set on DIY, put the effort into preparation: take out all the old sealant, make sure the joint is clean and dry, and give it the full cure time. If it does not work out, we can still put it right.

Sealing over old silicone is the commonest DIY error. New silicone won’t bond to old, so it lifts and traps water and mould underneath. All the old material has to come out first.

How it works

Before we leave, we go over the finished joints with you and explain the cure time. The work normally takes a few hours, or longer for a fully tiled room, depending on the size of the job. Somewhere like St Ives needs a little journey planning: tell us about narrow lanes, gates, long drives and where we can park. Everything for the job comes with us, so a second trip is avoided where possible.

  1. Every tile area is checked for hollow or loose tiles first.
  2. We rake out the grout evenly, protecting the tile edges.
  3. The joints are vacuumed clean.
  4. We regrout the joints and clean the tile faces.
  5. We finish with silicone in the moving joints.

Getting ready for the visit

  • Let us know about earlier repairs to the joints
  • Clear items away from the joints we are working on
  • Let us know about stairs, lifts or work at height

When something else is needed

We’d rather tell you now than do work that won’t last, so here’s what sealant can’t put right:

  • A structure that flexes behind the tiles
  • Cracked or broken tiles
  • A leaking wet room membrane

If in doubt, call 0345 464 0079 or drop us an email and we’ll say what we think before you book.
