Avon Castle Regrouting
Our applicators work in Avon Castle on raking out old, cracked or stained grout and regrouting tiled walls and floors. Old sealant removed completely, joints prepared properly and every job guaranteed for a year.
- Good tiles let down by tired grout
- Cracked or crumbling grout lines
- Grout in a colour the owner wants to change
Different surfaces, different methods
Wet rooms
Both the grout and the silicone in a wet room matter. We replace the grout and reseal the edges.
Bathroom floors
Floor grout takes foot traffic as well as water. It gets worn and dirty.
Regrouting in Avon Castle
We take the old grout out to a consistent depth, without damaging the edges of the tiles. After vacuuming, new grout goes in and the tiles are wiped clean, and the corners get fresh silicone. We work on bathroom floors, bathroom wall tiles and kitchen splashbacks, and the jobs we see most are good tiles let down by tired grout and greasy, stained grout behind the hob.
Homes around Avon Castle are mostly houses and cottages rather than flats. Sealant and grout wear out here just as they do anywhere: old material cut out, joints cleaned and a fresh finish laid.

Regrouting in Avon Castle: local notes
There are hotels and other places to stay in and around Avon Castle. As well as homes, we work in hotel bathrooms, where resealing and regrouting can be done room by room. Hard water is the norm across most of the South East, so limescale builds up on sealant, grout and fittings, and it has to be cleaned off before new sealant goes in.
In and around Avon Castle, as anywhere, good regrouting starts with a clean, dry, properly prepared joint.

Aftercare tips
Aftercare is simple:
- Rinse soap off the tiles after each shower
- Use a soft brush rather than a wire one
- Avoid neat bleach and strong acid descalers on grout
- Use a squeegee on the tiles after showering
Leave the area unused for as long as we advise, so it cures fully. After that, rinse the tiles after showering and let the room air.
If grout in the shower is washing out, act soon. Each shower drives water into the open joints and it can end up in the wall or the ceiling below.

What else we do in Avon Castle
The process
Every visit runs the same way: we look at the joints together, protect the area around them, do the work and clear up. It generally takes a few hours, or longer for a fully tiled room. Somewhere as small as Avon Castle, access is often the only tricky part. If the job is outside, mention outbuildings, exposed walls and how to reach them.
- We check the tiles for any that are hollow or loose.
- The old grout is removed to an even depth.
- The joints are vacuumed clean.
- We regrout the joints and clean the tile faces.
- We finish with silicone in the moving joints.
Preparing for the visit
- Plan for the work area to be out of bounds to pets and children
- For indoor joints, keep the area dry beforehand if you can
- Let us know about parking restrictions

Related advice
What affects the cost of regrouting
The quote reflects the job in front of us. We take into account:
- Mould in or behind the old joints
- When we can work, for business premises
- How easy the joints are to reach
- The old material and how stubborn it is
A few things move the cost up or down: how much old sealant there is and how stubborn it is, whether mould needs treating, and whether we need extra access for height. Your quote takes all of that into account.
Asking for a quote
Photos help, but a description is a good start. Try to tell us:
- Pictures of the joints, sent by email
- Whether it’s a home or a business
- If someone has resealed it before
- Where the job is, and your postcode
Call for a quick quote, or send an email if you’d rather. Tell us about the joints that need doing and we will explain what’s involved before giving you a price.
Should I try it myself first?
The difference is mostly in the preparation and the product. Joints are cleaned back to sound surfaces and dried, and the sealant is chosen for how the joint moves and where it is.
If you do try it yourself, take your time over the preparation: remove every trace of old sealant, clean and dry the joint, and follow the product’s cure time. If it doesn’t work out, we can still put it right.
Do you need regrouting in Avon Castle?
When tiles or the wall behind them move, the grout cracks. That can be a loose tile, a flexing floor or a stud wall, which is why we check the tiles first.
Look out for these signs:
- A grout colour that no longer suits the room
- Kitchen splashback grout stained by grease
- Corners filled with grout instead of silicone
- Grout stained black or orange that won’t clean
Schools such as St Ives Primary & Nursery School are buildings too, and its toilets, changing areas and kitchens need their sealant renewed like any other building’s.
What your quote should include
- Whether they’re fully insured
- Which sealant they’ll use, and why
- What the quote includes, VAT included or not
- What happens if they find a problem under the old sealant

Where is Mr Mastic based?

Is it worth trying it myself?
Sometimes. The key is preparation: remove all the old material and work on a clean, dry joint. If it doesn’t work out, we can redo it.

Before we leave, we’ll tell you how long to wait. Both the grout and the silicone need time to cure before they get wet.
