Singleton Regrouting

Problem with your tiled areas in Singleton? We cut out the old, prepare the joints and apply the right sealant.

  • Grout that’s cracking and breaking up
  • Old grout in a dated colour
  • Grout that stays dark however much it’s cleaned

Regrouting for Singleton homes and businesses

Regrouting in Singleton, done properly

Before we start, the tiles are checked. Loose or hollow tiles are pointed out first, since new grout cannot fix a problem underneath. Where the tiles are sound, regrouting gives the area a new lease of life. We work on bathroom floors, bathroom wall tiles and tiled floors, and people most often call us about floor grout that has worn and darkened and grout stained black or orange that won’t clean.

Around Singleton, it’s houses and cottages rather than flats, some with bathrooms tucked into older rooms or extensions. The work is the same as anywhere: everything old comes out before the new sealant or grout goes in.

You get a 12-month guarantee, the same in Singleton as everywhere else we work.

What we do, step by step

A visit follows a simple pattern: we look at the joints together, protect the area around them, carry out the job and tidy away. It usually takes a few hours for a shower enclosure, longer for a whole room. Somewhere as small as Singleton, access is often the only tricky part. For outside work, also let us know about exposed walls and any outbuildings involved.

  1. We check the tiles for any that are hollow or loose.
  2. The old grout is removed to an even depth.
  3. The joints are vacuumed clean.
  4. We regrout the joints and clean the tile faces.
  5. We finish with silicone in the moving joints.

Preparing for the visit

  • Tell us about any water getting in
  • Mention any tricky access
  • Keep children and pets away from the work area

Why act early in Singleton

Cracked grout lets water behind the tiles. Left alone, that water can loosen tiles or damage the wall, and then you are looking at retiling. Dealing with it now keeps it small. In a small place like Singleton, homes can be exposed to wind and rain, which finds any gap, and older walls, once damp, take a long time to dry.

Combining jobs into one visit is normally more efficient than separate visits, so it’s worth mentioning everything you’d like done. We will give you a clear price for the lot.

What affects the cost of regrouting

There’s no set price list, because jobs vary so much. The quote depends on:

  • How many areas need sealing
  • Whether old sealant or filler has to be cut out
  • Any working-time requirements on site
  • Which sealant suits the joint

Instead of a standard rate, we look at what your job involves: how many joints, what’s in them now and how we reach them. The price is agreed before we begin.

What we need to know

Photos by email are helpful but not essential. Please mention:

  • If it’s domestic, commercial or a hotel
  • How we’d reach the joints
  • What’s wrong with the joints now
  • Any previous sealing or DIY work

For a quote, phone 0345 464 0079 or email us with the location and a short description of the problem. We’ll give you a clear quote before any work starts.

DIY sealant or a professional job?

Some jobs are best left to a professional: high-level joints, fire-rated gaps, external movement joints and big jobs call for the right materials, safe access and experience.

Sealing over old silicone is the commonest DIY error. Silicone doesn’t stick to old silicone, so it peels away and traps moisture behind it. All the old material has to come out first.

Regrouting in Singleton: local notes

Hard water is the norm across most of the South East, which leaves limescale on sealant, grout and fittings. There are hotels and other places to stay in and around Singleton. Hotel bathrooms are part of our work as well as homes, and can be done room by room.

If you live in an older home near The Parish Church of the Blessed Virgin Mary, older homes can move a little, which is hard on rigid grout and tired sealant. If you look after a building such as Singleton CofE Primary School, its toilets, changing areas and kitchens need their sealant renewed like any other building’s.

Different surfaces, different methods

Wet rooms

In a wet room, the whole floor gets wet, so sound grout really matters. We check for loose tiles before starting.

Shower walls

Showers put more water on grout than anywhere else. We rake it out and regrout and renew the silicone at the edges.

What we cannot put right

Before you book, it’s worth knowing the limits:

  • Loose tiles, which need refixing first
  • A floor or wall that keeps moving
  • Waterproofing that has failed below the tiling

Singleton: your questions answered

Do you work for hotels and guest houses in Singleton?

Yes. Hotel and guest-house work is part of what we do. Work can be planned room by room, and out-of-hours working can be arranged.

Do you cover smaller places like Singleton?

Yes, smaller places are covered as well as towns. We work across London and the South East. Just mention lanes, gates or anything else about the route when you book.

How soon can the shower be used after regrouting?

We will tell you on the day. The wait depends on the products and conditions so please stick to it.

How long does regrouting take?

Typically it takes a few hours for a shower enclosure, longer for a whole room. Bigger jobs take longer, and we will say how long yours will take.

Do you regrout part of a bathroom, like the shower?

Yes, we often do. The shower generally fails first, so many people regrout just that part.

Is the work guaranteed?

Our 12-month guarantee applies to all our work. We are also fully insured.

What information do you need?

A short description and the location, with photos by email if possible. We will ask anything else we need to know.

Can I do it myself?

For a simple, easy-to-reach joint, a careful DIYer can do a reasonable job. The usual mistakes are sealing over old sealant, sealing a damp joint and using too much.
