Regrouting for homes and businesses in Scarwell
Regrouting suits shower walls, bathroom floors, kitchen splashbacks and wet rooms. It can be a full room, others just the shower. Whatever the size, the method stays the same. We’re often asked to deal with cracked grout along the bath or tray and gaps where the shower grout has gone, across wet rooms, shower walls and kitchen splashbacks.
Across smaller places in Scotland, homes range from stone and harled cottages to newer houses. Older buildings can move a little, and that shows first in cracked grout and split sealant.
We guarantee the work for a year. If something is not right with it in that time, tell us and we will put it right.

Quotes for regrouting in Scarwell
Jobs vary more than people expect. What affects the quote:
- Whether there’s mould to deal with
- Whether old sealant or filler has to be cut out
- Whether the work is at height
- The size of the job
We don’t show prices on the website, because the cost depends so much on the job itself. Call for a quick quote and we will talk you through it.
What to tell us for a quote
When you contact us, these details help:
- How many joints, rooms or windows are involved
- Access, such as stairs, a lift or height
- What’s wrong with the joints now
- If it’s domestic, commercial or a hotel
To get a quote, drop us a line at info@mrmastic.co.uk and tell us where the job is and what the problem looks like. We will give you a clear price before any work starts.
How to look after the new joints
A little care helps the new joints last. We recommend:
- Clean grout with a mild bathroom cleaner
- Look at the sealant in the corners now and then
- Use a soft brush rather than a wire one
- Get any tile that moves checked promptly
Keep an eye on the silicone in the corners. Corners flex, so it’s normally the first thing to need attention, long before the grout does.
Stains that won’t clean are a sign the grout is breaking down. Regrouting at this stage is straightforward while the tiles are still sound.
Do you need regrouting in Scarwell?
Grout is porous, so it soaks up water, soap and dirt. Over time it stains, softens and starts to crumble and showers that get daily use suffer most.
Signs it’s time to call us include:
- Floor grout that has worn and darkened
- A grout colour that no longer suits the room
- Corners filled with grout instead of silicone
- Crumbling grout between the tiles
Around Scarwell, as everywhere, regrouting is only as good as the preparation behind it.

Can tenants book the work?
Of course. Check with your landlord; we can send the quote to them too.
Could my grout be a different colour after regrouting?
Yes. It’s the ideal time to change it. Mention the colour you have in mind when you send an email to info@mrmastic.co.uk.
The process
On the day, we start by going over the job with you, so you know exactly what we are doing. Surfaces next to the work are protected before any work begins. Most jobs take a few hours for a shower enclosure, longer for a whole room. In smaller Scottish places, parking is normally less of an issue than access and distance. Tell us how to find the property and how to reach the work.
- We check the tiles for any that are hollow or loose.
- We rake out the grout evenly, protecting the tile edges.
- We vacuum the joints so the new grout bonds.
- New grout is pressed into the joints and the tiles are cleaned.
- We finish with silicone in the moving joints.
Getting ready for the visit
- On commercial sites, let us know about site rules
- Tell us about access, such as stairs, a lift or high-level joints
- Clear the area around the work
How to get a quote
For a quick quote, get us on the phone, or email us if that is easier. Tell us about the joints that need doing and we will explain what’s involved before giving you a price.

Regrouting in Scarwell: local notes
Scarwell is within about 1 mile of the coast. Near the coast, holiday lets and guest houses can see bathrooms used by one guest after another, and sealant and grout that work that hard wear out sooner. Scottish Water supplies are generally soft, so limescale is less of a problem than in hard-water areas. But mould still grows into sealant and grout in a room that doesn’t dry out.
Homes close to Quoyloo Parish Church include some older properties, and timber floors under older bathrooms flex, so joints need a sealant that moves with them.

Other services in Scarwell
DIY sealant or a professional job?
The difference is mostly in the preparation and the product. We take joints back to clean, dry surfaces, and the sealant is chosen for how the joint moves and where it is.
If you are set on DIY, put the effort into preparation: remove every trace of old sealant, clean and dry the joint, and follow the product’s cure time. If it does not work out, we can still put it right.
Surface by surface
Wet rooms
New grout in a wet room keeps the surface sound. It cannot fix waterproofing below the tiles.
Corners and edges
Corners flex as the building moves, so we seal them rather than grout them.
