Trusted regrouting in Tenston

Regrouting in Tenston, done properly

We take the old grout out to a consistent depth, taking care not to chip the tile edges. The joints are then vacuumed, regrouted and cleaned off, and the corners get fresh silicone. Common call-outs are for old grout in a dated colour and grout that’s cracking and breaking up, across bathroom wall tiles, wet rooms and bathroom floors.

For a place like Tenston, the job is the same as anywhere: everything old is cut out, the joints are cleaned and dried, and new sealant or grout goes in. The journey and access are simply planned in advance.

Your job is guaranteed for a year, as with all our work.

Looking after it afterwards

Aftercare is simple:

  • Run the extractor fan during and after a shower
  • Have loose tiles looked at early
  • Skip wire brushes and scourers
  • Wipe water off the walls when you’re done

If a tile starts to feel loose, get it looked at early. Movement will crack the new grout and lets water in.

Cracked grout doesn’t stay cracked for long. Water gets in behind and the tiles can start to loosen, so regrouting early can save a retile.

For landlords and businesses

We regularly work with letting and managing agents. Tell us the address, the job and how access works and we will give you a quote.

If you manage several properties in or around Tenston, several properties can be quoted together. Just tell us the addresses and what each one needs, and pictures by email help.

Can I do it myself?

The difference is mostly in the preparation and the product. We take joints back to clean, dry surfaces, and the sealant is chosen for how the joint moves and where it is.

The biggest DIY mistake is sealing over old sealant. New silicone won’t bond to old, so it lifts and traps water and mould underneath. All the old material has to come out first.

The process

Good joint work is mostly preparation, and we don’t rush it. Every joint is cleaned and dried before new material goes in. In total, it generally takes a few hours, or longer for a fully tiled room. For a place like Tenston, longer drives are planned in advance. Mention tracks, gates, ferries or anything else about the route.

  1. We start by checking the tiles for any that are loose or hollow.
  2. We rake out the old grout to an even depth, taking care of the tile edges.
  3. The joints are vacuumed and cleaned.
  4. We fill the joints with new grout, then clean the tiles.
  5. We reseal the internal corners and edges with silicone.

How to prepare

  • Tell us if parking is tricky
  • Try not to wet indoor joints just before the visit
  • Let us know about stairs, lifts or work at height

Corners and edges

Corners flex as the building moves, so we seal them rather than grout them.

Bathroom floors

Grout on a floor is walked on as well as wetted. It wears and darkens over time.

Is regrouting in Tenston guaranteed?

Every job comes with our one-year guarantee, wherever it is. We’re fully insured, and an ARBOMaster approved applicator.

Do you cover smaller places like Tenston?

Yes, we do. Our work covers the whole of Scotland, islands included, from towns to the smallest places. Longer journeys are simply planned in advance.

Are you fully insured?

Yes, we are fully insured for domestic and commercial work.

Can landlords and businesses book you?

Yes. Domestic, commercial and hotel work are all part of what we do, and we’re fully insured.

No. The old sealant always comes out first, so the new joint bonds to clean surfaces.

Do you do commercial work?

Yes. We can plan bigger jobs in stages.

Honest limits

Some problems need a builder, plumber or other trade rather than us:

  • A floor or wall that keeps moving
  • Leaks from pipes, valves or wastes (a plumber’s job)
  • Tiles that are loose or hollow behind

If you’re not sure, just send an email to info@mrmastic.co.uk and we’ll give you a straight answer before you book.

Common problems we fix in Tenston

A poor original job is a common cause. If it was mixed too wet or not pressed in firmly tends to wash out early.

Signs it’s time to call us include:

  • Greasy, stained grout behind the hob
  • Grout that is cracking and breaking up
  • Dirty, worn grout on a tiled floor
  • Corners filled with grout instead of silicone

Around Tenston, as everywhere, regrouting is only as good as the preparation behind it.

Choosing a sealant specialist

What regrouting looks like in Tenston

Tenston is close to the coast. Coastal homes, holiday lets and guest houses can see heavy bathroom use in busy months, and sealant and grout that work that hard wear out sooner. In Scotland, private landlords have to meet the Repairing Standard, which includes keeping fixtures and fittings in reasonable repair. Failed sealant around a bath or shower is worth sorting between tenancies.

For jobs in and around Tenston, choosing the right material for each joint is as important as a tidy finish.
